Made a bit of a last minute decision to do a day trip today up to Biscuit Beach for a NADD event. Honestly, both pups blew me away today. Manny’s best in distance was 18’9” (a new personal best) and his other scores weren’t far behind. Ella’s best was a 17’3” (!!), the likes of which she hasn’t put up in a long time. For Air Retrieve, Manny hit 13’, two feet past his prior best, and Ella’s last grab was 14’, which she hasn’t hit in years and years.
Video is of Manny doing Air Retrieve (thanks Roberta for the video!)
(Side note: Ella’s best last weekend with Dock Dogs was 12’10” and today her best was 17’3”. And although it was a great jump today, no, she didn’t suddenly jump 4+’ further than she did last weekend. Dock Dogs judges with a camera while the other organizations manually judge. Ella has a unique jumping style (she glides into the pool) that the camera system struggles with, so throughout her career, her DD jumps have always been a few feet shorter than her jumps with other organizations. We just consider them completely separately. On the other hand, Manny’s distances seem to be largely consistent across all organizations.)
ANNOUNCEMENT TIME! Drum roll please…
Team Jumpin’ to the Rescue has a new member: Introducing Manny!
Manny is a 3-ish year old black lab mix who was rescued from Chicago Animal Care and Control by way of Be Fido’s Friend rescue. He was adopted a little over two years ago, and while it wasn’t apparent at that time, following an adjustment period it was clear he had some behavioral challenges. After a lot of work on behavioral modification in combination with anti-anxiety medication, we are thrilled to be able to have Manny competing in dock diving for the very first time this weekend. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for him!
Spent Saturday dock diving locally in Grayslake, IL with NADD. Ella’s best distance jump was 17’0”, but the highlight of the day was Air Retrieve, where she made it to 14’ (missed 15’), two feet past her prior best of 12’!! Super proud of her. This video is of her final few grabs, I’ll post the video of the initial grabs in the comments, along with a photo of Boomer, an Australian Koolie (first time I’d ever met one of those) who I totally wanted to steal (OMG he is so cute and sweet and fun!). Thanks to Roberta for the company and for videotaping for us!
