The Team is 2 events into the 2024 Season (both NADD qualifiers), so it’s probably a good time for an update. Event highlights below.
🩺 A medical update on Ella is in the comments

📅 FEBRUARY EVENT at Three Hounds Training Ground
🩷 Ella went into this event already with an air retrieve (AR) invite for 2024 Regionals and Nationals based on her performance at the 2023 Nationals
🩷 Ella earned a distance (DJ) invite to Regionals (ok, so the top 3 dogs in each division get an invite, and there were only 3 dogs in her division, but hey, an invite is an invite lol)
💚 Manny matched his personal bests of 19’0” in distance and 13’ in AR
💚 Manny got to try hydrodash (HD) for the first time and got progressively better each time

📅 MARCH EVENT at Kinners On 97
💚 Manny earned an invite to Regionals in both AR and HD
💚 Manny got a new PB of 19’3” in distance
💚 Manny earned his Dock Senior Advanced title, which also earned him a DJ invite to Regionals
🩷 Ella matched her PB of 14’ in AR

I was going to wait until I had an opportunity to do a full recap, but, well, I can’t wait anymore…

🎉 Ella took 3rd Place at NADD National Championships in her division in AR!! 🎉

Not only did she make finals, but she placed in the Top 3!! This has also earned her an invite to Nationals for 2024!

I am so danged proud of her!! We had some struggles this season (more on that later) and I really didn’t know what to expect going into Nationals. If I’m being honest, I don’t think she was fully herself while there, but she still kicked a$$ and most importantly had fun.

So, this is happening right now. Ella, Manny, and I are at NADD National Championships and Ella made finals! (Manny did great too!). Ella has already competed in finals and now we just wait for results/awards presentations.

I really need to get updates up faster, but… Friday of last weekend Ella, Manny, and I headed out to Southtown K9 for the last time to compete in the IDS Championships; Manny had an invite in Velocity and both had an invite in Eclipse. I’m happy to report that Ella placed 2nd in her division in Eclipse across all facilities/competitors (as she did last year)! We have big ribbon coming our way. 😀

With all of that said, the event was bittersweet. The owners of Southtown K9 are starting a new chapter of their lives, which means Southtown K9 as we know it is no more. STK9 has always been our happy place, most especially Ella’s. We consider it our dock diving home. It’s where Manny learned to jump off the big boy dock earlier this year. It will always have a very special place in our hearts, and we will miss all the great times we had there. We wish Shannon and Chris all the very best in their future endeavors - thanks for the memories. ❤️

Well, well, well, what a nice surprise we got today! Manny got an invite to NADD National Championships in Air Retrieve based on placing in the top 25% of his division at Regionals. 😃

Today we are participating in the IDS Championship at Southtown K9 (our last time ever at STK9 😭). We’ve been busy, lol.

A little bit of deja vu... today Ella got a second invite to NADD National Championships in Air Retrieve, this time for having ranked in the top 10 dogs (6th to be specific) in her division over ALL dogs who competed with NADD in the 2023 season. 😀

So, Ella did a thing... she went and earned herself an invitation to NADD National Championships in Air Retrieve!

I really need to post a proper update from Regionals, but for now: Ella placed 1st in her division in Air Retrieve, thus earning an invite to NADD National Championships!! She pulled out a 14' grab, which is her personal best and something she's only achieved a few times. Good girlie!

Manny got (more) mail!! On Friday we jumped in the NADD qualifier at the McCormick Place convention center (interesting experience…) and Manny earned himself an invite in distance! He already had an AR invite, so now he’ll get to compete in both distance and AR at regionals. 😀

Manny got mail!!

I’m so ridiculously behind in posting team updates, but this past weekend we attended a NADD qualifier at Biscuit Beach, and Manny earned himself an invite to Regional Championships in Air Retrieve!! (In addition to all of us having a great time!). So he will be joining Ella at Regionals!

Ella already had her invites (Distance and Air retrieve) going into this past weekend but still got to play, and ended up finishing the weekend out first in her division for distance and second in her division for air retrieve.

All in all, it was a great weekend!

Ella got mail!!

I haven’t even had a chance to post a weekend recap yet, but Ella got mail! We attended an NADD qualifier this weekend hosted by Pier Pups, LLC. It was a great event and apparently Ella’s performance was good enough to earn herself a couple of invites to NADD Regionals! More to come when I get my #%*& together and post a recap.

Made a bit of a last minute decision to do a day trip today up to Biscuit Beach for a NADD event. Honestly, both pups blew me away today. Manny’s best in distance was 18’9” (a new personal best) and his other scores weren’t far behind. Ella’s best was a 17’3” (!!), the likes of which she hasn’t put up in a long time. For Air Retrieve, Manny hit 13’, two feet past his prior best, and Ella’s last grab was 14’, which she hasn’t hit in years and years.

Video is of Manny doing Air Retrieve (thanks Roberta for the video!)

(Side note: Ella’s best last weekend with Dock Dogs was 12’10” and today her best was 17’3”. And although it was a great jump today, no, she didn’t suddenly jump 4+’ further than she did last weekend. Dock Dogs judges with a camera while the other organizations manually judge. Ella has a unique jumping style (she glides into the pool) that the camera system struggles with, so throughout her career, her DD jumps have always been a few feet shorter than her jumps with other organizations. We just consider them completely separately. On the other hand, Manny’s distances seem to be largely consistent across all organizations.)

Guess who made and placed 3rd in Contender finals at last weekend's Dock Dogs Wild Card event at Woodhaven Lakes? And took 1st in the Express Division for Speed Retrieve the very first time he ever did SR (which in theory earns him an invite to World's for SR!)?? THIS GUY!

Before we hit the next weekend (in like 8 hours lol), I wanted to post a recap of last weekend. This was a very challenging event/venue for Manny - with tons of people and lots of dogs around, his anxiety issues were definitely in force, but overall he was able to manage pretty well. He put up his best score of 16'10" on his first jump, but his numbers trended downward over the weekend (I believe as a result of his anxiety trending upward). But he ran SR like he's been doing it for years (but someone, ahem, needs to work on her reaction time lol). Overall, I was super proud of how well he did.

Ella made finals as well (Amateur division), with a best jump of 12'10" over the course of the weekend, but by the time finals rolled around, it seems the old lady was tired and just plain done and she balked at the end of the dock for finals. She was able to be persuaded to jump in at the very last second, but jumping from the end of the dock gave her a best jump of 8'4" in finals. Ah well, the crowd had fun cheering her on to go into the pool!

CHAMPIONSHIP INVITES!!

Ella and Manny have both received invites to the IDS Championship based on their event rankings from a couple of weekends ago (in Eclipse and Velocity for Manny, and in Eclipse for Ella). Ella actually already had an invite (in Eclipse) for being top 3 in her division at last year’s Championship.

It’s never too early to get Championship invites. 😃 Good job pups!

WEEKEND RECAPS! ('cause the pups' secretary didn't have her #$%& together last weekend, we're posting recaps for two weekends together).

Last Weekend (5/12-5/14) we participated in the IDS Event at Southtown K9. It was Manny's very first competition and he did great! For Horizon (distance), his best jump of the weekend was 17'7", with 4 of 5 jumps being 17'+ (the last one was 15'9" due to a poor throw by the handler, sigh.). Ella put up some great numbers in distance as well, her best was 16'3", with 3 of 4 jumps being 16'+ and her lowest at 15'3". For Eclipse (air retrieve or fetch it as known in other venues), Manny got to 11', and Ella, not to be shown up by her brother, hit 13'. Manny also got to try Velocity (a timed swim) and crossed the 35' mark in 7.230 seconds. PLACEMENTS: Neither placed in Horizon/distance (there were a lot of skilled competitors in their divisions, congrats to them). In Eclipse, Manny took 1st in his division and Ella took 2nd in her division. Manny grabbed 2nd in his division in Velocity. All in all, a great weekend (other than the rain on Sunday!).

Today (5/21) we took a quick jaunt out to Southtown K9 for Dock League (distance only). Ella's best jump was 16'6", and Manny's best was 17'2".

ANNOUNCEMENT TIME! Drum roll please…

Team Jumpin’ to the Rescue has a new member: Introducing Manny!

Manny is a 3-ish year old black lab mix who was rescued from Chicago Animal Care and Control by way of Be Fido’s Friend rescue. He was adopted a little over two years ago, and while it wasn’t apparent at that time, following an adjustment period it was clear he had some behavioral challenges. After a lot of work on behavioral modification in combination with anti-anxiety medication, we are thrilled to be able to have Manny competing in dock diving for the very first time this weekend. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for him!

05/13/2023

We're Back!!! And stay tuned, because we have a BIG announcement.

It's been a hot minute since we've posted, but it's the start of the 2023 season and we'll be providing regular updates throughout the season.

And importantly - we have quite a few new followers, so WELCOME! This is the page to follow the dock diving escapades of Team Jumpin' to the Rescue - we hope you enjoy and are so happy to have you here!
