Do you have a hard time cutting your dogs nails? If so I have some tips. This is my first time to actually CUT Luna’s toenails. I wanted to get a video because I’ve had her since Feb and was her 4th home where she clearly had some nail trauma and drama. She wouldn’t even let you brush her or touch her feet. At all. She would growl and flip out. I never forced any of it. I would just tap her with a brush and then constantly touch her feet and give her treats. Over the months I moved to touching her feet with the nail clippers. Just a couple times here and there randomly. But mostly I spent time exercising and training her. Not worrying about nails or brushing. As her confidence built I would do more. For the past few months I have sat on the porch and groomed my other dogs and she started wanting to be brushed and groomed. I started with short super fun and happy sessions followed by treats. I would make her sit and wait while my other dogs loved being brushed. So after months of tapping her feet with the clippers, today I CUT the nails. You will see me doing the tapping. This is such a great way to desensitize the nails. If you try this make sure to have patience. This can take months to get them to relax and enjoy this rather than fighting. And then make sure you never cut too short. One slip up can ruin months of training. This slow method has worked with many of my fosters over the years. Good luck!!
