ZOEY-Ready for her new forever home
Nashville, TN
F/3/UTD on shots/Spayed/Cats OK
Great on leash, perfectly potty trained
Zoey is a real hero. Her human mom was murdered in March and Zoey was a hero tried to stop it. Please share as we would love to get her into her forever home as soon as possible so she can begin her new life. Zoey is very calm and quiet in the house. She is reserved and NOT high energy at all. She would make the perfect companion for someone looking for an easy to be with dog. She is not destructive, loves to lay around and watch movies, perfectly potty trained, rides great in a car, loves to go on outings. Warms up slowly to strangers but she is reserved and it takes a minute. This just means she doesn't run up and love on everyone. She is slow to decide if she cares enough to engage 🙂 She doesn't trust easily at first and here is why-->>
Here is her sad sad story:
Zoey’s mom Martha was brutally beaten, stabbed in the face repeatedly and murdered. Zoey was there and tried to get the attacker off Martha biting him multiple times. The man also attacked Martha’s brother and stabbed and beat him although he lived.
Zoey is traumatized and it has taken her a couple weeks to come out of her shell after the attack.
Back In March Martha, Zoey’s Mom, and Martha’s brother were in their home in East TN. with Zoey, when Martha’s drug addicted son went into a rage and attacked them both. He ended up stabbing her in the face, neck and head and beating her. Then he attacked Martha's brother and stabbed and beat him. They were both rushed to the hospital where Martha died three days later.
While Martha was alive a trauma nurse named Madison was caring for her in the trauma unit. Ms. Martha told her all about her dog Zoey and how Zoey tried to save her by biting her attacker. If she didn’t make it, she was worried Zoey would have no one and she’d go to the shelter. They didn’t expect Martha to die, but her poor body couldn’t take the trauma and she passed of a heart attack.
Fast forward, the angel trauma nurse can’t get Zoey off her mind. So she goes and gets her afraid she would end up at animal control. It took her two weeks to get Zoey out of her shell. Madison works long shifts and has another dog. So she had to find another option for Zoey and found us. My heart breaks for her and for Martha.
I didn’t know Martha but I am so so sad she lost her life the way she did. Her killer was her only child. She told Madison she tried to have children for 18 years and finally used IVF to conceive. What a sad ending to a mother’s dream.
Zoey out of her trauma state but still needs confidence. She needs to be in her forever home so she can settle in for the rest of her life and be happy. She is slow to warm up to strangers but doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. Please share to give her some exposure. Also, go and find a nurse and give them a big hug. Some of them are angels!!
*There is an adoption fee, application and references required for her adoption.

We are on day 9 of Luna’s spay. She is doing great but I’ll give you the good, bad and ugly for those of you who are not looking forward to the spay for your female. I waited until she was two then I waited 5 more months because I was dreading managing her downtime.

* I sent a photo of her scar to the vet today and they said it looks great and is healing perfectly.

First, Luna is EXTREMELY high energy and high drive. Before her spay we would go on daily e-bike runs 8-12 miles. We also play 3-4 games of ball and disk per day at around 20-30 minutes per session. She also shadows me all day while I work in our shop. She is busy ALL DAY long usually. So needless to say I was very worried about how I would manager her energy during her down time.

We started off the first five days with the recovery suit and it worked very well. No cone or constant crating. I was glad I bought it a little small because it helped restrict her movement somewhat. I was able to keep her pretty calm and quiet for about two days. After that it was impossible. I would have her on leash and she would literally go insane wanting to play and run and jump. My vet gave me a pill mixture which I highly recommend as well. (See photo below for pill cocktail) It took the edge off but by no means made her seem drugged or sluggish. It just helped her sleep a little better since she wasn’t getting her regular exercise.

We are on day nine and for the past few days we have been playing ball. She has no issues with her scar and she is not trying to lick or bother it at all. I have the recovery suit on hand if I need to put it back on but I think we are done with it.
To be honest, for me it has been impossible to keep her quiet for an entire two weeks like the vet recommended. I was really hard core for 5 days and then I gave into letting her play, run, jump and be mobile. Today we played ball. Nothing ripped, she is doing great and is resting quietly for the first time in days without meds. We are going to do a few miles on the bike later. It is what it is and I had to modify to keep us all sane. Here are my top tips:

1. Talk to your vet or vet tech about shaving the dog carefully. They gave Luna razor burn and it drove her crazy for 4 days. She wanted to lick it which I was worried it would turn into her licking her spay incision. It drover her crazy! Her skin is pink and sensitive and this could’ve caused a big mess. Luckily the recovery suit helped.
2. Get your recovery suit one size too small. I got her an XL and it was a little too snug and small which was a good thing. It restricted her movements and that was helpful.
3. Get a good pill mixture for the first 5 days. This will help so much with taking the edge off but mostly we saved the pills for bed time. She wasn’t getting her exercise and she was NOT ready for bed at night without the pills.

If you have any smart outlets or frequency remitting devices in your house, read the below post. These outlets made their dog very ill. Please share because this can be miserable for a dog.

PSA: We adopted our dog, Rowdy, from the shelter 5 years ago. He was already an adult dog, so we estimate he is about 11 or 12 years old at this point. I love this dog. He is the sweetest soul and my BFF. For the past week or so he hasn’t been acting like himself. He licked a raw spot on his foot. He was panting constantly. He was pacing. Sunday morning, the pacing and panting got so bad, and I was REALLY nervous that there was something seriously wrong with him. For 45 minutes, he panted like crazy and constantly paced back and forth. He was keeping his tail tucked down all the time. His ears were pinned back. He would not settle down and he wouldn’t eat. We tried everything. I ended up giving him a trazadone that he takes sometimes when he goes to the groomer. It seemed to take a little bit of the edge off, but not much. He still wouldn’t eat and still wouldn’t settle. I took off work on Monday so I could take him to the vet. We did bloodwork and x-rays. Knowing he is a senior dog, I was trying to prepare myself for the worst case scenario. I was glad to see his bloodwork was great except for some elevated liver enzymes. The x-rays showed he was a little backed up but no major issues. He got an anti-nausea injection and some Gabapentin to help with some tenderness in his back and to hopefully help keep him calm. When we got home, he was ok for a little bit, but eventually started pacing and panting again. We walked around the neighborhood for a long time and he used the bathroom a lot. He seemed pretty happy about that and was in good spirits until we got home and he refused to come back in the house. Every time I took him out that evening, he would hunker down like he didn’t want to come back in the house. When my vet called and I gave her the update, she suggested there may be some new electronic device in the house that was emitting a high frequency noise that is hurting his ears. We had just put new smart outlets in the house about a week ago. His pacing and panting were worse when the lamps were on, so I unplugged all the smart outlets. He stopped panting, stopped pacing, and ate his food. His tail was even up and wagging again. When I plugged the smart outlets all back in and asked Alexa to turn on the lamps, he immediately started panting and pacing again. My husband used an app to test the frequency of the smart outlets. It was off the charts. We've left the outlets unplugged for two days and have confirmed that it is definitely the smart outlets that are causing his stress and discomfort. He's back to being a totally normal dog now. I really thought this was the end for Rowdy based on the way he was acting. I am so thankful for Dr. Newell at BoonesCreek AnimalHospital for figuring out this simple solution. If your pets are exhibiting similar symptoms, you may want to consider checking your electronics first. I cannot express how relieved I am that he is ok now. 😭♥️🐶

This is Caroline. She moved overseas with all her animals.
She never wrote on Facebook "I'm giving up my cats and dogs because I'm moving"or I'm having a baby or I've had the animal a year, two years or more and now I suddenly don't have time for it or can't afford to feed it.
So, when you get an animal, remember that it’s a fragile creature, part of the family and must follow you everywhere you go, otherwise don’t get one!!
Be like Caroline.
