Big Fluffy Dog Rescue FUNdraising & Events Big Fluffy Dog Rescue Big Fluffy Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping giant breed mixed breed dogs in need.

We value dogs of all breeds, but we specialize in what the name says: big, fluffy dogs. We have volunteers in several states in the South, the mid-Atlantic and New England as well as parts of the midwest who work to help homeless big fluffy dogs find a home to call their own. Big Fluffy Dog Rescue works to save Great Pyrenees, Saint Bernards, Newfoundlands and other giant breeds and their mixes fr

om euthanasia. Our dogs come in to rescue for many different reasons. Many were abandoned at high kill shelters in the South. Some were turned in by owners who could not properly care for them and still others are failed livestock guardian dogs. Regardless of their origins, our goal for every dog we have is the same: a safe, happy home where each dog is a well-loved member of the family. Big Fluffy Dog Rescue has its headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. Happy Monday All. There Is almost nothing that makes my eye twitch more than watching puppies grow up in our kennel. Yes, they get the best of care, play time, love and all kinds of attention, but it's not the same. Sweet Romy and her sisters (not pictured, but they are pretty much triplets) are all about 16 weeks old, right now weigh about 20ish pounds, and are sweet Labby gals. They are looking for foster or forever homes.

These beautiful babies need Northeastern (or midwestern) fosters preferably this upcoming weekend. These girls are sweet, loving and fun. They are working on things like potty training, crate training, sit, stay down and the famous "dontchewonthatshoeitsmine". Command. These girls are soft, fluffy and furry and soft as goose down. They are easily trainable to love all your kitties, and get along perfectly with other dogs.

So folks, if you can open up your heart and home to these beautiful pups, please reach out to [email protected] for more information on these glamour gals. They are so ready to call your home theirs.

Hi folks, well, Jean is away and you know what that means... Sarah and Nicole... Don't take any train wrecks... We didn't listen, we never do, and now have two dogs in dire need of medical attention. Meet Esme (left) and Pixar (right). I have added the pictures of their medical issues in the comments so I wouldn't go to Facebook Jail for horrific photos. Let me tell you about these two beautiful girls.

Sweet Esme is a 5ish year old rat terrier with a mass on her abdomen the size of a softball. She became acutely ill today, and was rushed to the emergency vet. It turns out that this is an enormous hernia. Unfortunately, her bladder has slipped into this extra "space" and she cannot p*e. She needs urgent surgery tomorrow to reduce the hernia to move her bladder back to her abdominal cavity and remove the extra tissue so that she can regain proper bladder control. She is currently hospitalized with a catheter in her bladder so she can empty it normally, and on IV fluid support. If she goes downhill tonite, she will need emergency surgery to the tune of 3-4000 dollars.

Sweet Pixar had something wrong with her eye. See picture in comments. She's a beautiful and sweet Chow mix who is severely matted and weighs less than 50 lbs. The shelter we got her from so very kindly had the eye removed. Pixar walks with a head tilt, and certainly not in a straight line. She's a beautiful and sweet, and we are worried that she has had severe head trauma and has been on her own for quite some time given the severity of her eye injury. We have no idea how much her care will cost us but she needs a complete neurological workup and head x-rays to start.

Taking in not one but two train wrecks fo this magnitude will set us back quite a bit and we are asking for your help.

If you can help us and donate to the care of either Pixar (who also needs a Nashville foster) or Esme, please click on the link below. We are thinking a seven dollar Sunday is in order.

Thanks so much Big Fluffy fans. You are the best.

Today is Giving Tuesday, the day set aside in the shopping frenzy that is the Christmas season to honor the work that charities do. Big Fluffy Dog Rescue is now 15 years old and, in that time, we've rescued 20,000+ dogs. As we have grown, our mission has morphed from my original goal of saving a few dogs to encompass the rescue and rehabilitation of thousands from hoarding cases and physical trauma cases including truly horrific things like trap injuries, gunshots and burns and the unfortunately common hit by car cases. We have also expanded our work to include a sizable number of dogs incoming from hospice centers with dying owners and dogs displaced by natural disasters. Of course, we still take a large number of dogs from high-kill shelters and owners in need. All told, the percentage of those dogs we call "trainwrecks" in our rescue is up over 50% now.
Regardless of their origins, our goal remains the same for all dogs in our care: a happily ever after. We can't do what we do without the support of our fans, donors and volunteers and we remind everyone to support their local charities on this Giving Tuesday and every day of the year.
If you'd like to donate $5 to help us help dogs in need, you can donate at https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr… Thanks as always to all of you who step up to help us and all the others in need.

And we have two more surprise babies! That brings us up to 4 total puppies from 2 mothers that we rescued along with 17 others at our most recent hoarding case.

So, meet our newest honorary big fluffy. This as-yet unnamed boy weighs in at a delicate 3 ounces and he may be the smallest puppy we've ever had. His Mom is in intensive care as she has pneumonia. She is one of 30+ dogs from a large hoarding case - we took in 19 from this case. This little guy is holding his own and is being cared for along with his sibling (a bruiser by comparison at 4 ounces) and his cousins (preemies) who are now a week old by the fairly amazing Lacey who is caring for them round the clock and tube feeding. Baby to be named is doing well and we are hoping Mom recovers.⠀

Say a prayer for Mom, kids. She's had a very rough life and she's on oxygen and antibiotics and she just birthed 3 babies - 2 live, one stillborn. I can't imagine having pneumonia and delivering babies and yet she did.⠀

Stay tuned.

UPDATE: Daphne's surgery went very well and she is resting comfortably. Thank you Kracken for all your help.

UPDATE - As of 5:45 PM Nashville time, Daphne's condition has deteriorated. We are rushing her back in for emergency surgery. We will update you when we know more.

Good afternoon fans. All I can say is "when it rains, it pours." Jean is (still) away, and despite our best efforts to follow the 10 commandments she left for us, bad things just keep happening. First there was the sad old Mastiff, then the hoarding case, and now Daphne.

Daphne is a sweet 2 year old blue Pitbull who came to us from one of the shelters we evacuated that was in the path of hurricane Dorian. Yesterday she went in for a spay. When we picked her up and brought her back to the kennel, or staff noticed something was wrong. Poor Daphne couldn't get up and her temp was very low. We rushed her to the local Nashville Emergency Vet. On arrival, her pulse was weak and thready, she was cold to touch, and had no palpable blood pressure. Thanks to the heroic efforts of the staff there, Daphne regained her blood pressure and pulse, and was essentially brought back to life. It turns out she is bleeding internally from the spay. This is a rare complication that we hardly ever see, and when we do, it's a pretty bad one.

The emergency vets monitored her overnight and while she is "better" she is by no means out of the woods, and may need exploratory surgery later today. Her hematocrit (measures red blood cells) is super low, and she is not eating. Things are touch and go, and we are on the edge of our collective seats holding our collective breaths on this one.

Of course, this was not planned for and not in this week's budget at all as this visit will cost us at least $3000.

It's Thursday, and Daphne is a Pretty Pitty so we ave started a Thursday is Daphne Day fundraiser. Those of you old enough to remember Thursday as Prince Spaghetti Day will nod and smile. Please click on the link below to donate to help us offset the cost of caring for this lovely girl.

PS- Daphne will be looking for a Nashville foster home starting tomorrow hopefully. Interested parties please reach out to [email protected].

Well, we've got pictures and more info for the hoarding case Sarah was asked to help out with. It's worse than we thought. Before you grab your torches and pitchforks, know that the home owner is not in great shape himself. He's suffering from throat cancer and can barely walk. He has at least 35 dogs on the property. Most of them are on the small side, and weigh around 30 lbs. His property has been a dumping ground for years, and he has had no means to spay/neuter the dogs, and cannot afford to care for them.

This is Arabella. She's an 8 week old puppy. She should be fat and happy, just starting on solid food and learning how to play with toys. Instead, she is bald, cold and weak. Unfortunately all the pictures we have of all the dogs on the property look the same. They are bald, sad, and scared.

We certainly do not have the funds or the room for a hoarding case of this magnitude, but we cannot leave them up on the mountain in this condition so we will help in any way we can. With the current deep freeze we are experiencing, we fear they will not survive much longer. We expect they will need medical boarding, lots of medicated baths, vaccines, etc. If you would like to donate to help us care for these dogs, please click on the link below. We've started a 10 buck Tuesday. One dollar for each of the first group of 10 dogs. More pictures of the dogs can be found in the comments. They arrive in Nashville tomorrow.

6 pm update 10/12: Her platelets are not rebounding yet and we are concerned about pleural effusion and bleeding into the lungs as the films indicate that could be happening. The trick is to keep her alive and buy her time for the medications to stop the auto immune attack.

We need some help to save a dog. This is Raya, the dog we took in a month ago that had a severely broken back leg and had been living on a chain with it for a long time. We fixed her leg and she was doing well.

Yesterday, Raya began bleeding from her gums and it wouldn't stop. She is now at the emergency vet with a platelet count of zero, down from 24 yesterday and from 149 a month ago. Her body is destroying her platelets and we don't know why. This is what they call ITP (immune thrombocytopenia) and her body is attacking itself for an unknown reason.

We are trying to save her life with a cocktail of drugs and immunoglobulin and she may have to have a splenectomy as a last resort. This breaks my heart because she is the sweetest dog you can imagine and she has had zero chance at a life outside living on a chain or getting medical care with us.

If you would like to donate $6 to help us save her life, you can do here: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=R8M4NJZUTLDMS&source=url

Say a prayer please.

15 more dogs in danger of being euthanized, so we pulled them all. Our kennel is FULL, so we will have to board them. If you can donate anything to help us cover this unplanned for expense, please see the link in the original post below.

The part of my job that sucks the most is telling shelters and desperate people no. I do it roughly 300 times a day because we just can't take them all. But there are some cases that make me sadder than others.

I have 15 dogs in mortal danger and I have no space at our facility. We will have to board them. I have a dog in ICU and 3 orthopedic surgeries scheduled this week and there's zero money in the budget.

I don't want to say no so I am going to say yes. 2 months ago we did this and we saved 27 dogs (the first two have gone home and the rest will soon). I'd like to get 15 dogs out to safety and as usual, it started with one big fluffy candidate (the Saint mix) and spread out to the catahoula that came with him and then to another and them to 14 more beagles, bassets and catahoulas. Saying no means death, and I just can't do it today.

If you'd like to donate $5 to help save these dogs and help us board and vet these guys for 10 days until we can clear some space, you can donate here: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=F668QM2VMJCDA&source=url.

Thanks as always.

$5 Friday to save Tyra!

UPDATE: She is still in ICU and we are finally trying to switch her off of the very short term insulin to a long term insulin. If we can get her levels stable, we will send her home to foster. She has severe pancreatitis but she is eating so we are optimistic. Cross your fingers.
**************
We really need help with this one. This is Tyra, a 4 year old wire-haired dashchund who came to us out of a hoarding case. Among her many other issues, this poor girl is diabetic and the hoarder she came from did not give her insulin.

Tyra is in intensive care with diabetic ketoacidosis and pancreatitis. This is life-threatening and we are on pins and needles. The vet has given us an estimate of $4800 and we have wiped out our medical emergency fund with Sheba who went in with Addison's disease. Tyra will die without treatment.

If you can donate $5 for Friday for Tyra, you can donate here: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=HB7S4P4TMDUMW&source=url.

Thanks as always and say a prayer.

I know this isn't the most accurate statement (dogs don't eat, play with, or p*e on things that stress them out), but after the day I've had it sure SOUNDED good and I found myself seriously contemplating the logistics of how I could do this and still make a clean getaway...

Fostering saves lives. It is often the only way a shelter or rescue group can stay open and be available to help more dogs in need. It helps dogs that haven't had the best start learn how to dog, and makes them more adoptable. Take it from someone who has fostered somewhere around 40 dogs over the past 4 years, the JOY far outweighs any sadness. BFDR is always looking for more foster homes in most states throughout the Eastern half of the US. If you are interested in learning more about the fostering process, you can visit our website www.bigfluffydogs.com and read all about it and fill out an application here: https://bigfluffydogs.com/foster/foster-application/
