This is information about how to raise Koi fish from eggs. I’ve included some info and found out raising them from fry is worth it.

Koi fish eggs are the start of new life in your pond. If you come across some newly-hatched eggs nestled on the tip of a pond plant in your backyard, expect to find a population boom within the next few days! Typically, koi eggs will hatch in less than a week. Koi eggs are very small, bead-like spec

Hi everyone. Sorry for the inatention. I found this folder at Aquatic Critter. Chris the owner says they are a good company. I know some of you need help with repairs and cleaning.
Since I haven’t used them myself please be careful.

So after a lot of work I got my fish’s water clearer. They are loving the weather.

Hey guys. What are your plans for the spring? I like to take time in the winter to plan any changes. For instance, I built a new filtering system for my poly tank but I know there are some tweaking to do to make it more efficient. If you are still running your pumps, are you sure the line won’t freeze up? I put some pool noodles on mine to insulate the line. (Just in case). A big airstone can keep your pond open enough for transfer of gases and if you aren’t running your pump, it will help when the fish are starting to see signs of spring.

Hi everyone. Who’s ready for the Koi to go to sleep for the winter. The thermostat in my poly tank is about 60 degrees which begs the question when to stop feeding. There are multiple theories and newer food that can be get to about 40 degrees. I’m old school so I’m not feeding once it is 60 for a week straight.

What do you think?

So a nice lady needed help with a goldfish. It is very unusual. The issue was that the Koi were attacking it’s fins and it was also losing scales. She allowed me to keep it for awhile. When you get a fish of any type it is a good deal to research it.
It seems that this ryukin is a short deep-bodied fancy goldfish with a characteristic hump in the shoulder region. It likes peas, blood worms and brine shrimp. Once it was eating and healthy and it looks like this. This fish lived in a pond with Koi for 4 years. Why did the goldfish start to be a target? I think that it became a target because it wasn’t getting enough food and the Koi sensed it like pack of wolves. Any other opinions? Or have you seen this before?

Well after about a week of a frog in my pond, I finally got him out from under my net on the poly tank. I thought the big koi would eat him but she would gently bite him and let him go. He still didn’t get the hint to leave so (and this is where I wish I had a GoPro) i snuck around the poly tank, loosened the netting and using a medium size net (with cat like skills) trapped him against the poly tank and flicked him out of the pond. He got caught in the netting and but I wouldn’t let him climb back in.

So of all the skills I do have, I have yet to master the black pond foam. No matter what it is just terrible the way I waste it and get it all over. I’ve used an array of gloves including surgical gloves. I try to fight gravity and watch as it goes to waste. Anyone a master of foaming around your bulkheads or a waterfall? Oh and I have to use acetate to get it off and sometimes that doesn’t get it off. This photo is after acetate and scrubbing 20 minutes.

Hi guys. Spawning is a natural event when you have both male and female in your pond there is a chance that the female might have trouble releasing the eggs. When this does occur you fish might be sluggish and not eating. I found a link with some info to help you. If you nothing the koi could work it out or the koi could die. Let me know if you have had this issue and how your fish got better.

Here is the koi still in the aquarium that seems to be aggressive. He uses his long front fins.

Well I woke up to a rainy day and my fish spawning. No I’m not saving the eggs this time. You don’t see the foam on the water because I fed them right after and they were really hungry and splashing.

I have been working on a barrel filter for my poly tank for about a week or so. It is a 55 gallon food safe container like people use as rain barrels. The barrel got a crack just as I was ready to finish. So now I will have to find another option. Looks like a trip to the co-op.

Here is an easy way to build a rain barrel filter. I am making a similar one for my poly tank. Rack 55 gallon barrel is good for up to 1,500 gallon pond. Or you can make more than one and connect them.
http://www.thepondforum.com/showthread.php/72-DIY-55-Gallon-Barrel-Pond-Filter

Building a 55 gallon upflow barrel filter is very easy and you just need some basic skills to get the job done. The rule of thumb for filtration is that one 55 gallon filter will be able to filter up to 1,500 gallons of pond water (with a moderate fish stock level). Therefore, if you have a pond tha...

I was looking at Pinterest and found this product. It’s a floating skimmer. Not everyone thinks to put a skimmer in when they build their pond. I’m not sure if it is right for everyone but looks like it could help.

Also I took this photo. Look closely and you will see a green section of material which is similar to a spawning mop. Not sure if they are going to save the eggs or just collect them in an effort to stop increasing the volume of fish there.

Curbing algae growth is one of the key maintenance issues in sustaining aquatic life in a garden pond. Algae forms naturally as a byproduct of water in direct sunlight. Left...
