FAUNA and Spay Natchitoches, a division of FAUNA, would like to thank the members of the Natchitoches Parish Council for voting unanimously to approve funding again this year for infrastructure repairs and our spay/neuter program.

Last year’s grant of $50,000 was used for repairs and upgrades to both rescue sites such as gutter and roof replacement, fencing, kennels, fans, and other necessities needed to continue operation. These repairs made both facilities more functional and safe for the animals housed there and for the volunteers who care for the dogs at Sites 1 and 2.

The $10,000 allotted to Spay Natchitoches helped provide financial assistance for spaying and neutering of over 300 pets throughout the parish through online applications and at the three health fairs FAUNA sponsored throughout the year. For the first three weeks of January, 2024 Spay Natchitoches has already received approximately 70 applications. FAUNA hopes to continue holding health fairs throughout the parish to provide more spay neuter vouchers this year as well. Without the support of the Natchitoches Parish Council, the spay/neuter program would be impossible to maintain.

Again, our deepest thanks to each council member and Parish President Salter for supporting FAUNA in our ongoing efforts to ease the suffering of animals in the Parish of Natchitoches and to reduce the overpopulation through spay and neuter.

This was recorded last Saturday as a behind the scenes tour of the NHS Happy Tails Facility so our friends here can see exactly how over-full we are. This was before the sick room and quarantine kennels got half of their roof pulled off in Thursday's storm, see our previous post for photos and info on that new obstacle. More info on these dogs and more adoptables on the pinned album at the top of the Natchitoches Humane Society page or on our website https://natchitocheshumanesociety.rescuegroups.org/animals/browse 14 dogs in our small Happy Tails facility maintained by one inmate at the Detention Center is too many and allows no flexibility in helping others. We have even more in our WONDERFUL, AMAZING foster homes but they are often older or headed up north on transport. We cannot keep up with all the calls that come in to our volunteer-only organization that are from out in the parish where helpless animals are left to fend for themselves. We are working to change this but need your help in advocating for, donating to, and fostering these pets, as well as spaying and neutering your own pets. 1st Bath Day of 2022

Thank you for a wonderful Give For Good! $1,573 raised plus $1,000 matched by a kind supporter! Natchitoches Humane Society alumni Rexx, Nino, and Gracie thank you for helping their friends that are still in need, every bit goes straight to the MANY animals in our care!

OPERATION HEALTHY PAWS HEALTH FAIR

Reggie gets along with other dogs, this big guy is a gentleman around even the smallest female dogs!

Reggie even got to see a giraffe!

Reggie closed out the afternoon with a donut as a reward. He had such a big day, and goes in for his heartworm treatment on Tuesday.

UPDATE: Phew, what a day! All the dogs are nice and warm for the weekend and we cleared out animal control shelter this week thanks to our fosters and volunteers old and new! 7 dogs are at James vet and 4 are at Good Hope, you can call either of them directly to pay towards our bill, or donate to us and we will sort out the rest! Anything extra will go to their vet care! Original post: Can you help with this winter weather this weekend? The dogs at our Happy Tails shelter are not fans of the cold spell coming up especially since their kennels are not heated and wondering if you can take one for the weekend to keep them as nice and warm as Happy Tails alum Lexus is in this video!! It also helps get them adopted and update their bios when they get a shot at being in a home even for a weekend! Please consider and send a us message if you are able to take one! We are also looking at boarding them if we cannot get 10 temp fosters so each may need a sponsor for the weekend, about $60 each which can be paid directly to the vet that they stay at!
