I hope everyone is staying warm these last few days during these brutal temperatures! Though it’s cold…we sure have good things to look forward to with warmer days and new foals on the way!! These three, yes you read that right…three!, mares are due in just a couple short months all within a few weeks of each other!

Diva, the black mare, and Dutton, the buckskin, are both bred to Allen Quarter Horses Stallion, Blue Bonnet Hayes, and I am so excited to see the cross on both mares after being around this stud and some of his older offspring! Miss, the roan mare is bred to Checking The Cows from Roth Performance Horses out of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa!

As we get closer to warmer spring days, stay tuned for more updates on these ladies and their foals!

Weather doesn’t matter around here..we will still get things done! Though we have been enjoying these warmer temps the last few days!

He’s been here almost a month so I figured it was time to introduce SRH ORPHAN SILK! This sweet little gelding is a 2022 baby and is in for training and will later be offered for sale! He is eligible for the Lucky 7 Bonus incentives as well as the Homegrown Classic incentives! He’s got a gentle and quiet demeanor and is eager to learn. He’s taken everything I’ve thrown at him so far with ease and picks things up quickly. As the days go by we get closer and closer to a first ride so stay tuned for more updates on him in the coming months.

Be sure the keep in mind that he will be available in the future as well!!

Happy New Year everyone! Hope everyone is doing well! Been a bit since I posted but for all of you who have asked about T-shirts and Hoodies….i have a wonderful friend who does them so we will have some available! It will be on a pre order basis, and please give at least a week for orders to be made and shipped out! There will also be the option of stickers as well! I will have prices out later this week so be on the lookout!

Good for the farrier and- has been ran barefoot and with shoes. Currently barefoot

Sierra is a handy little mare that has been used for a little bit of everything from trail riding to ranch work to the arena. She’s been consistently used at the sale barn to pen, sort and load cows and handles it all like a champ. Drug calves off of her this spring in the branding pen and she picked it up quickly and acted like she’d done it every day of her life. Hauled her to two ranch rodeos this summer and none of it bothered her, it was just another day of work for her. She has a lot of go but is easily controlled and will slow down when asked. She has not been roped off of out of a box but picks things up fast and tracks a calf well. Reins around nice and has a good stop on her. Moves off leg pressure. Same horse every time you ride her whether she’s sat 6 months or you rode her yesturday. Never offered to buck, kick, bite, etc. Her downfall is that she is hard to catch. In a small lot you can normally get her caught pretty easy, if she’s in a pasture, most likely she will need roped or ran into a catch pen. Some days she will come to a bucket of grain and let you catch her but not very often.

I’ve used this mare long and hard at the sale barn and she hasn’t quit me yet. She’s always game for whatever job needs done and she’ll give you her all till the job is done. Several others have rode and used her and she’s the same horse no matter who is on her. If someone put a little time into her I think this mare would make a nice breakaway/heel/calf roping horse.

Well folks…I don’t get to keep them all and with several youngsters of my own coming up, this girl is gonna get to find a new home. For those of you who have followed for a couple years now, you’ve gotten to see this girl progress from untouched to a great little all around horse. She’s the perfect size with the right amount of go and whoa for a handy little kid to finish out in the roping pen and stout enough for an adult to take and use all day on the ranch. She’s seen the sights of a rodeo arena, been to the branding pen and knows the ins and outs of the sale barn. What better way to celebrate National Day of the Horse than to introduce yall to the newest member!

This three year old gelding came to us a week ago and will be getting started and used for basic ranch work for a while. He’s got a few little attitude problems to work thru but seems to be a quick learner and has a quiet eye so I’m sure all the attitude is only surface level. He doesn’t have a name so if anyone has any ideas comment below!!

Here's a fun update a lot of people will be excited for ... Kodi left for his trial period for adoption today! He's a special horse to a lot of us so we are very excited for him. They got along all so here's hoping he has his !!

It is officially time to offer this cute kid! If your looking for a cute little ranch horse for your kiddos for Christmas, look no further than Ziggy!!

Ziggy is a three year old grade gelding that stands 14-14.1 hands tall approximately. He’s quiet, friendly and in your pocket. The first horse to meet you in the pasture no matter the time of day. He’s always ready to go to work and rides off the same no matter the weather or how much time off he’s had. He has a nice stop, reins around decently and moves off leg pressure. We’ve swung ropes off him and used flags on him. You can open and close gates, pony other c**ts and sort calves off him. He is a more whoa than go type of horse so do not expect to do anything in a hurry with him. Loads and unloads quietly, stands tied with no problems and is great for the farrier. He currently has a full set of shoes on and is ready to go to work. UTD on shots and deworming but no current coggins.

His *one* downfall, is that prior to coming to me, he had an injury to his left hind that has left a scar. I can provide pictures for anyone interested. I have used him all fall at the sale barn 2/3 days in a row for several hours every day on rocky, uneven ground and concrete and he has only came up sore once so I do not feel this is something that will keep him from doing a hard days work, however I don’t feel like he will be a horse for rodeo or roping due to this and him not caring to go fast.

He is currently located in Newell SD, however I have a trailer headed east In a week or so and could haul him with if someone is interested in him back that direction. A deposit will be required for me to haul him. Owners have listed him at seven zero zero zero or best offer.

It was a pretty good day around here today!! The c**ts got some time standing tied and everyone got rode/worked! Of course I slacked on pictures per usual 🤦‍♀️.

This is from a week or so ago but teaching a young horse to respond to vocal cues on the ground will make it a lot easier getting them to move out under saddle!
This mare only wanted to trot or lope on the lunge line when she first came in so getting her to where she will walk has been a key focus. Once we began saddling she didn’t over react to a cinch or the weight of the saddle but quietly walked off on the circle and listened to what I was asking of her versus just taking off in a trot or lope and working herself up.

As mentioned earlier, a few new horses have been added to the string…but not all have a major purpose. This sweet girl has been a favorite of mine at the trail rides since she was purchased a few years back and together we have dealt with a lot of injuries, sickness and weight gain over the years so she holds a special place in my heart. When she came available this spring, I knew I couldn’t just let her go anywhere, so she became a permanent resident of Lazy K…only in retirement at my parents place in Missouri!😆 she’s been hanging out in the pasture being spoiled, living life and giving my mom a few more gray hairs over the summer and will continue to live out her days with the other retirees and broodmares.

Now…Mystic does not have to be retired and could easily go back to work so with that being said, so long as she stays sound and continues to gain weight, I would consider leasing her to a 4H kiddo to use thru the summer months for shows if anyone was interested. She is located in Missouri and that is where I plan to keep her so it would have to be a Missouri resident. If this is something that interests anyone in Missouri, please feel free to reach out!

Happy Tuesday ya’ll!! It’s the first day of October and we had our first freeze last night so all the ponies were a little frisky this morning!

As we head towards the end of the year, I have a few things to let everyone know. First and foremost is that after a lot of thought and soul searching, I have decided I will not be taking outside horses during the months of November, December, January and February. My initial plan was to be able to take horses during this time frame, however I have been unlucky in finding an indoor facility where I can comfortably work horses without being in the elements and risking a horse getting injured or sick. During this time frame, I plan to focus on my personal horses and goals as both have been pushed aside so client horses could take priority. I have added a couple new horses to the string so my focus will be getting them ready to go for the upcoming rodeo season.

With that being said, the spring books are going to fill up fast and I already have several horses booked starting in March. So if you’d like to get on the books, please let me know soon.

I have a few more housekeeping items I will be posting about in the coming weeks as we continue to round out the year. I appreciate every one of my clients and without you I wouldn’t be able to do everything I do. I have had a lot of wonderful horses and owners to work with this year and I look forward to many more in the coming years! ❤️
