Hey friends!
We have been getting a lot of phone calls and emails about a "mystery dog illness." We are aware that information is being shared about an illness going around that is affecting dogs. We understand that these reports are of some kind of upper respiratory illness.
Here's what we know, and here's what you can do:
1. Make sure your dogs are up to date on their vaccines.
If you have a dog that is frequenting the dog parks, doggy daycare, boarding, and grooming, this is so very important. We currently have a steady supply of canine influenza vaccine, so if you need your booster or would like to start the series, we are able to schedule this for any of our patients now.
2. Avoid high traffic dog areas.
Because we live in a community that is incredibly social with great places to walk your dog, this also can put our dogs at higher risk. Walking your dog in the off times can be helpful. Picking up after your dog on their walks is also incredibly helpful.
3. Bring your own stuff.
When visiting community areas, bring your own water and bowl, treats, toys, etc. This helps the spread of illness by not using shared resources.
4. If your pet is not feeling well or exibiting signs of upper respiratory illness, Seek Care Immediately.
It is important to initiate care and support for our unwell pets early. We have amazing urgent care and emergency facilities on the ready! When we are unavailable, take comfort in knowing that our colleagues at these facilities provide expert level care.
