Big boy Kane had a really successful training day at the park! Not only has he gotten better about controlling his excitement around other people, but he’s gotten better about it around other walking dogs too. Congratulations, Osrik! This goofy pup just finished up our on/off-leash training program. He learned a recall, a sit stay, a down stay, a place stay, heeling, and leave it (because he likes to pick up rocks). He has a solid understanding of things now, and is ready to continue doing the work with his owner. Great job, Ozzy!

The way you hear me talk to dogs in these things is the way I talk to dogs, period 🤷🏼‍♀️🤪

Elsa has been finalizing her work with settling in “place” while other dogs do their thing. I want her place command to be really solid when she goes home so that she essentially has a “time out” command if the other dogs in her extended family become too much. And of course, we continue using her muzzle to make sure that it’s something she’s used to wearing while doing these things. Muzzles DO NOT stop aggression, but they do inhibit biting. So, we have done a lot of counter conditioning for certain behaviors, but we have a safety net in place too!

From Kane’s POV: Willow looks like a super fun dog to play with!

Kane has been working on controlling his excitement around other dogs, because he has struggled in general with controlling his excitement and becoming reactive. We got that down pretty well around people, and we’ve been finalizing that work around other dogs as well. .morgan and Willow have been a great help!

Osrik and I accompanied .morgan and her trainee, Willow, to the park for a training day, and we enjoyed the nice weather and the nice walk through the woods. Osrik finalized some of his off leash heeling and heeling past other dogs, his recall, and his sit stays, down stays and place stays. We worked it all prior to wrapping up his training program. He’s getting ready to graduate, so stay tuned for his cute graduation video!

Elsa has been working around other dogs since other dogs are her problem area. These two pups were freely playing and being dogs while Elsa practiced placing so that she could learn how to settle among chaos. When Belle, the puppy, jumps up on the bed with Elsa, we use the “look” command so that Elsa doesn’t focus on something that annoys her, and focuses on me instead. This keeps her from reacting and gives me a chance to remove the dog that could create a problem.

Congratulations, Belle! She just graduated from our basic puppy program. I didn’t mute this video because there wasn’t a lot of background noise, so you can hear what I’m saying to her and see how exactly I work with her. She’s a treat motivated girl, so that’s the method I’ve been using with her to teach her things. Things not shown are potty training and crate training, both of which we worked on during her program. Great job, Belle! We can’t wait to see you back for off-leash training!

Congratulations, Rocky!! He just finished up our on/off-leash training program. His nose (and small animal prey drive, feral nature, and need for freedom) got him in trouble prior to training. Coming from a background as a dog living freely in the marshes, he has made some amazing progress. He can now hold sit stays, down stays, place stays, and he can recall (the most important command) and heel nicely. There’s a moment in this video where we got surprised by a tiny stick of dynamite in a shopping cart that made ME jump, but Rocky just held still and wagged his tail. He handled it better than I did 🤣 Why people bring dogs like that into stores and fail to correct them, I’ll never know. But I’m really proud of how Rocky handled himself! Now it’s time to go home and train his family 😁
