Gizmo’s stability in his commands has grown over the last few days, and this is what his down stay looks like. He’s understanding how to hold things until he’s released, which is crucial for this step in training. He’s ready to take his training out in public, so he’s next up for a training field trip!

Chico LOVES people, so much that he jumps all over us (something that I got to witness first hand when I picked him up). We’ve been working corrections for jumping and working on how he greets people in general. We’ve also been working some ecollar recalls, and using more difficult scenarios like ones where he’s being interacted with 😁

Bolt was finally introduced to Gemma, the untrained dog next door that either helps or hinders my outdoor training sessions 😅 he handled her barking at us really well while he held his sit stay. We have been working on his long line recalls and doing some ecollar conditioning. He’s had a little exposure to the ecollar before, but I still want to make sure that it’s conditioned in the way that I would use it for his training. Here, you see us recall into a sit. We do that because his owner said that his pattern was coming then immediately taking off again. We can counter that by asking for an additional command after a recall!

Bernie has been working on his ecollar conditioning, and something that I like to practice is recalling away from other people. Everybody loves a friendly dog, but you don’t want your friendly dog going home with anyone else 🤣

We have also run many drills to desensitize to people coming in the front door. Both Bernie and Chico are featured here!

Gizmo has been working on a few things - since it rained all day yesterday, we practiced his place command. I got to watch the progression of him relaxing on place, and he got alllll the treats for relaxing. He has also gotten much better at down, and following pressure from the leash into commands. The final clip here is his heel, and you can see how we’re applying leash pressure to help him sit - I didn’t say anything when we stopped walking, but I non verbally worked him into a sit. He’s doing great so far!

Bolt is a pretty high strung dog, so as we work I want him to learn how to be calm and make sure he feels rewarded in those moments. Since it’s so gross outside, we worked place drills today. Bolt practiced placing alongside my own dogs as well as the other trainees that are here. Once I saw his eyelids fluttering closed in that last clip, I knew we accomplished something big for him 😊

Happy 3rd birthday, my goofy third child! Floki joined our family two years ago today, and it’s been a blast having him here. We (everyone) got pup cups and enjoyed a walk in the woods, which is his favorite way to have fun. Happy birthday, Floki!

Bernie dood took another field trip! We went to Tractor Supply to do some training, where he took a selfie with a giant chicken, practiced his stays in sit, down, and place, and did lots of heeling around the store. Bernie is a chill guy, so even though these were much tighter quarters than we’ve trained in before, he handled it well.
