At HOPE, we believe every horse deserves to live their final chapter with dignity, comfort, and love. Liberty is one of those souls.
She’s breathtaking—yes, even now in her mid-30s. Age has softened her body and whitened her face, but Liberty’s eyes still catch the light. Her swayback still carries a quiet pride. She was never flashy, never loud. But Liberty’s presence has always been undeniable, the kind that makes you pause, breathe, and feel something deep in your chest.
Liberty lives with Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM), a neurological disease that affects coordination and muscle control. It’s heartbreaking to watch, even more so knowing she once galloped freely with fire in her hooves. But she fights. Every day, she fights—gracefully, stubbornly, beautifully.
Because Liberty is a sanctuary horse, she will never be adopted. She will live out her life here, in safety and peace, surrounded by people who love her and treat her as the queen she is.
But her care is not free.
Liberty’s EPM treatment includes anti-protozoal medications, daily supplements to support her nervous system, and pain management to keep her comfortable. These costs can run between $250 to $600 per month, depending on her needs. And that’s just for her.
We do this because Liberty is worth it. Every horse at HOPE is. But we can’t do it without help.
