This is a 9 year old commercial cow and her Valentine's day heifer calf.

You might wonder why a registered Angus breeder would post a commercial cow/calf.

When we started this journey nearly 30 years ago we did so with 14 head of commercial bred heifers. This cow's granddam was one of those. She weighed in at 950 pounds and weaned a 500 plus pound calf every year. Through the years we have strived to breed for efficient, maternal, gentle cattle with the goal that the herd bulls we sell would help to produce this kind of cow & calf for the commercial cattlemen that buy them.

At this stage of the game we only have a handful of commercial cows/calves left in the herd of otherwise registered ones. Their calves are fed out and sold to beef customers each year. It is good to see what kind of commercial offspring are produced with the genetics we choose to use.

I am really happy with this cow and her heifer calf and intend to put the heifer to work in our herd alongside her momma and I hope that the cow will still be producing top notch calves well into her teens.

We weaned calves on Tuesday. I took these pics on Thursday. The first calf heifers/cows had adjusted weaning weights on their calves (all heifers themselves) that ranged from 530 to 584 pounds. We do not creep feed nor do the cows get fed. They get good grass and minerals and fresh water. The dams to these calves weigh 900 to 1000 pounds each. I can't wait to see what these young cows do in the future! NOTE: not all the cows were first calf heifers, the mature cows did just as well though.

2/13/2021 Bubs Southern Charm son. Good BSE, up to date on vaccinations, +1.7 BW epd with an actual birthweight of 78 pounds. His adjusted WW was 614 pounds. These two cows are 4 year old twins. They are Lemmon Newsline daughters and their calves were born only a couple of days apart.

We have a set of 14 to 15 month old bulls. They recently had a BSE and are fully vaccinated. There are two Southern Charm sons, a SAV Pioneer son, and two out of our Confidence Plus clean up bull. The group photo isn't great but it's all I have at the moment. I will get individual photos as soon as I can. These bulls are ready to move on to greener pastures now. The big bull pictured is a two year old son of Lemmon Newsline. We have him in with ten heifers at the moment. He will get a new BSE and a trich test when we pull him in mid February. Just some pics from the farm. The first calf is out of Pioneer, the second one is out of Hoover Dam. The cow with two calves does not have twins, the one behind her is a milk thief! I am always excited to see the next calf crop.

We still have a Lemmon Newsline son (second photo) and a Confidence Plus grandson (first photo) looking for new living accommodations. The Newsline turned 2 in September and the Confidence Plus is 22months old. They have both had a BSE, are up to date on vaccinations, and are ready to go. These are both heifer bulls. The Newsline son has a +0.1 BW epd, with an actual weight of 60 lbs. The Confidence Plus bull has a +1.9 BW epd with an actual weight of 601 lbs. They are super easy keepers and very gentle.

This little cow right here just weaned a 609 pound bull calf two days ago. She might tip the scales at 1100 herself. Our cows have to produce on grass/hay, minerals and fresh water. We do not creep feed the calves either. We are after efficiency, longevity, and productivity. This cow is only 4 but her grandam stayed in production until she was nearly 15!

These bulls are ready to go to work. They have had a breeding soundness exam and are up to date on their vaccinations.
The first bull is a 1/30/2020 grandson of Connealy Confidence Plus, registration # 19671980 . The second bull is 9/25/2019 son of Lemmon Newsline, registration # 19543030.

The third bull is a 1/15/2018 son of Connealy Conficence Plus. He has a good BSE and a clean Trich test. We have been using him since spring of 2019 and have kept many of his daughters. Several of his calves have had better weaning weights than our AI sired calves. His registration number is 19090956.
