This is one of our finder's flyers! Rehabbers are so busy and it is hard for the Center to remember who took what and for the rehabber post an update!

There are many losses but rehabbers hold on to the successes!!!

Look who is up, alert, and eating on her own.

She was in pretty rough shape when she presented. She was moving, had no major external injuries and her breathing was steady; which gave hope for the combination between the incubator (consistent warmth), warmed fluids, and medication to work on her.

We lose so many animals each year to cat bites. Their punctures on the outside may seem minor but to a small animal those teeth can puncture organs and cause internal bleeding. The bacteria from a cats mouth alone wreaks havoc and can kill an animal in such a short period of time once it enters their bloodstream.

If an animal is bitten or injured by a cat, time is crucial to get it to a rehabber. You cannot wait with cat bites/punctures. There is always a chance they can survive but they need antibiotics right away. Thankfully this little one made it into care in the knick of time and she responded very well to care.

These are wild! They have to be fed their natural diet! You wouldn't expect a wolf to be fed kibbles & bits? Children should learn the food chain naturally. This way they understand each animal's importance! Owls eat more mice than poison can! But one poisoned mouse can painfully and slowly kill the rodents' natural predator!

Another success story!

Many of our raptor (hawks, owls, falcons, vultures) rehabbers have a quarantine area. This is necessary when they get a bird in for it to decompress and also be tested for the Avian Flu! We have great raptor rehabbers......if you need one, please check the DEEP list and call ALL! Also add Rose Morals and inbox her about the raptor! We will try to get the raptor help as soon as possible!

Otsi shares his story about not crowding Snowy Owl migrants. He was flushed and was struck by a vehicle causing a severe wing trauma. Enjoy from a far distance! Or come meet Otsi at an APCH presentation.

Coyotes don't wait til Valentine's Day to get romantic... they start in January! Remember when you adopted your pet you became your pet's protector! Don't leave unattended/unsupervised pets outside!!!

Have y’all seen the warnings spreading like wildfire on social media, claiming that coyotes become extra aggressive in January and February, when they’re seeking mates? Guess what: it’s not true!

Coyotes are looking for love this time of year, but that doesn’t have anything to do with aggression. Coyote attacks are extremely rare, and the only two fatal attacks that have ever occurred on humans took place in August 1981 and October 2009, about as far from January and February as you can get!

During absolutely any time of year, coyotes will protect themselves and their families from threats, and those threats can include dogs that are allowed to roam at large. This isn’t malicious. Dogs defend their families from coyotes, and coyotes defend their families from dogs, too. The correct way to prevent that is to keep your dog either indoors or in a secure coyote-proof fence unless it is a working livestock guardian.

Mating season aside, January and February are when prey becomes harder and harder for coyotes to find, so they may, in desperation, try to eat cats and small dogs that are left outside unattended. This, too, isn’t malicious on the coyote’s part. We can’t leave free food outside and then be surprised when someone responds to the open invitation.

It is the responsibility of pet owners to care for their pets, not the responsibility of coyotes to stop being coyotes. Keep your pets secure because they deserve that— and leave your wild neighbors alone.
