These two sisters are Lilac and Sunflower. They are two years old and we’re rescued when the pet store they were in had a fire. They are nervous but sweet and could use a gentle, quiet family to love them and show them how to be confident with humans. “Hi everyone…It’s me, Charlie! If you’ve been checking in, you remember I didn’t have the best previous owner. I arrived at Brody’s Cavy Rescue at a whopping 4.9 pounds! (Ideal weight is 2 pounds). Due to lack of movement in my previous tiny cage, overfeed and being overweight, I got bumble foot, also known as pododermatitis, which is an uncomfortable skin disease/infection of the foot pad that causes pressure sores to develop on the bottom of my feet. So losing weight and more exercise is a priority! My foster mom has started a regimen of daily foot soaks, antibiotics and pain relief meds, salve, manukau honey. Daily bandages are quickly chewed off my yours truly cuz I hate things on my feet! We also have daily play time out of my enclosure to stimulate movement and activity to help lose weight. My diet has been cut in half, consisting of less pellets (1/8 cup per day), less sugary veggies, smaller amounts of greens.
I went to the vets Tuesday and I am proud to say I am down .08 pounds! -.02 the visit before and that means I’ve lost a whole pound 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. I’ll keep you posted on my progress. This is a painful journey for me but my foster mum will see me through. Thanks for all your love and support on this journey. It’s good to know y’all are out there for me“

UPDATE—Bin has been adopted! My heart filled with joy when Katherine MH contacted me and said she really felt she needed to save this sweet pig. And today it happened! With a bonus surprise—ITS A BOY😂. Thank you Lindsay Montville Animal Shelter New Jersey for making the time today to make this happen! And although it was too late for his 3 companions, He will no longer be unloved, neglected, dumped or let down by another human ever again. My heart is full.

Does anyone want to adopt this pretty girl? Her situation will make you cry! She was left in a box next to a dumpster, in the heat and rain, we don’t know for how long, but her 3 other companions were dead next to her!😭. She was the sole survivor of a horrific thing done by a human who let them down. Now she needs a human to make her whole again. She is a young female, sweet but understandably shy and just needs your love. Pm me if you are interested in adopting or if you are a rescue that can take her in. Currently at the Montville Shelter and her name is Bin.

Alfonso and Sheldon have returned home after a weeks stay at Brody’s Cavy Rescue and Boarding. It was a pleasure to have these two boys with us and we hope to see them again real soon. Thank you, Gianna Izzo DeSalvatore and Milo for entrusting your boys to our care. They really are sweethearts!

3 young guinea pigs. 2 bonded females (1 Abyssinian 1 tortoiseshell American), 1 male (Abyssinian). Owner surrendered 5 days after taking them from a friend. FYI-females will need to be on a pregnancy watch as all three were together for those 5 days.

About us…
Brody’s Cavy Rescue has been rescuing homeless, abandoned and owner surrendered guinea pigs for over 35 years. We also offer small animal boarding. We are a small volunteer only animal rescue group. Owner surrendered pets may have to be on a waiting list when we are full for immediate intake. All shelters and rescues are overwhelmed, overloaded and overflowing with surrendered pets. Please be patient if you need to rehome your pet. We will try to help you as soon as possible.

Hello Rescue Organizations,
My name is Darcy Del Castillo. I am the shelter manager for the brand new Jersey City Animal Care and Control.
I am reaching to all local 501c(3) rescue organizations. Our goal is to get the animals of Jersey City off the streets, out of bad situations, out of the shelter and help provide a safe landing for them as fast as possible.
To do this, we need the help and commitment of our RESCUE PARTNERS!
JCACC will evaluate each animal, vaccinate, and provide a space for you to come and evaluate the animals you choose to pull for your rescue. There will be no charge/fee for taking an animal. Our shelter staff will help facilitate a rescue pull as much as possible.
Additionally, your rescue will be acknowledged and thanked in our posts as a Rescue Partner should you pull an animal for us.
If your rescue organization would like to be considered as a JCACC Rescue Partner please email me! Feel free pass this along to other rescue organizations you may think would be interested.

Allergies? Here are some tips to help so you do t have to surrender your precious guinea pigs. I find Oxbows Hay Stacks to be tremendously helpful with this also. And less hay waste too! I use gloves, separate a block a bit and my allergies are minimal (I have hay allergies).
