Rein Dancer Therapeutic Riding Program 501(c)3, is a non-proft, full service, credentialed equestrian program that provides clients with on-site lessons, training, experienced-based learning, field trips, team-building, competitions, volunteer opportunities, and so much more. We are housed at Laurita Equestrian Center in New Egypt, NJ. At Rein Dancer, we are dedicated to the empowerment of individuals with a range of emotional, physical, cognitive, and social special needs through the use of equine assisted activities and therapies, as well as helping our clients reach their equestrian goals. We exist to help horses heal people. We rely heavily on support from volunteers and donors.
Rein Dancer was founded over ten years ago by passionate individuals dedicated to supporting those in need. Throughout the years countless volunteers, board members, employees, and donors have generously and selflessly given their time and talents to the program for the benefit of our clients and horses. Today we service over eighty clients and their families on a weekly basis, provide field trips to local school groups, partner with Veterans organizations, clubs, and church groups, as well as host community events.
We are also home to the Michael R. Phillips Memorial Fun Show Series. This show series is dedicated to Michael’s memory and legacy. He was an avid supporter of all Rein Dancer fundraisers and horse shows, a member of our Board of Directors, and a smiling face in day to day barn life. He could always be found announcing for the judge, running ribbons, opening gates, dusting exhibitors’ boots, cheering on the winners and cheering up those who faced difficulties during the show day. Michael embodied the spirit of sportsmanship in fairness, courage, persistence, respect, and a sense of fellowship with all exhibitors, staff, and friends. Rein Dancer continues to exist because of Michael’s dedication to our program and because of those who continue to generously support us in loving memory of him. We work to keep Michael’s beautiful legacy alive through our programming and events.
Our Staff:
From the ground up we are home to the sweetest herd of horses. Muzzle kisses, hugs, treats, and grooming are essential to every visit to the farm. Some horses are owned by our program, and others have owners who generously share their pets with us. Our horses are desensitized to many obstacles typical horses may find alarming in order to provide the safest environment possible for our clients.
Our Head of Maintenance is one of the most talented individuals you will ever meet- able to fix anything and care for the day to day needs of our herd. Take a look around the facility and you will find it very well maintained all thanks to the skills of our maintenance team. Caring for horses is not an easy task, and we are always looking for volunteers to assist.
Our lead Instructors and Barn Manager come to us with Bachelors degrees in Equine Studies and Equine Business Management from Johnson & Wales University, Centenary University, and the University of Findlay. For those looking to accomplish all of their equestrian goals we have credentialed trainers who ride on a professional level. Our therapeutic staff join us with Masters level degrees and Graduate Certificates from Messiah College, Northeastern University, Walden University, and Stockton University. Our therapeutic riding instructors are PATH certified, and we currently have two instructors in training. We also have Mental Health & Equine Specialist EAGALA certified facilitators, a licensed Speech Pathologist providing Hippotherpy, a licensed Associate Counselor, and a certified Practicing Psychologist partnering with our organization to meet the needs of our clients. Almost all of our Instructors have full time professions outside of Rein Dancer. These individuals dedicate their free time, talents, and professional abilities on site, helping us accomplish our mission and vision.
Our Future:
We are currently undergoing major changes in programming. We have transitioned from discontinuing as a full boarding facility to focusing on building our therapy programs. We are working to create more confidential spaces for Hippotherapy and Psychotherapy. We are updating our lounge to enable us to host small group events to benefit targeted populations, providing participants time with our herd, followed by a meal and time in community with each other. We are working to grow our therapeutic riding program, as well as our traditional riding program. We are looking for horses that can be used in our program, and are open to qualified, credentialed individuals partnering with our team. We are so excited to build, create, and open our doors to those who need it most.
