Puppies!!!
We did a litter assessment today for a brand new litter of Chinese Red Dogs. 11 puppies total! They were super cute and very sweet and a pleasure to assess.
During this assessment we evaluate many factors for several indicators like pack drive, prey drive, food drive, sound sensitivity, environmental nerves, natural retrieving abilities, social behaviors as well as thresholds and more. This can help with proper placement of puppies into new homes to come.
They also got to get some socialization with some kids while here which the kids absolutely loved!

Do you guys remember little Beckham? He was a dog in my program months back. When he came his owner was considering if there was a need to re-home him. After his program the two have literally thrived together!
Beckham's owner suffered from a brain injury which has lead to many medical disabilities and complications which Beckham now assists her with. He's now an active service dog trained to do various tasks to help with migraine onset alert, hearing aid and more.
We are so so proud of Beckham and his owner for doing great and succeeding together. We always new he was wicked smart and could do great things.
Below is part of a message we just got from Beckham's owner and handler. 💙
"I seriously can't thank you both enough for your help and the fact that we could even do this! He is not only the best dog I've ever had thanks to your help, but he has given me so much of my independence back (he will go get me when the microwave or oven beeps! And has helped me with his killer nose and awareness that I've come off 2 meds and am able to help me with things I still couldn't do for myself."

A little snippet of Eis and I's regional championship obedience and protection routine this past weekend. So proud of this dog!

This girl showed significant stress and anxiety going to new places. She is untrusting of new people and doesn't handle new environments well. In fact her first time attempting to go to a store she locked up trembling at just the site and sounds so we didn't even venture inside. I have been taking my time with this girl to try and help her to become more confident and trusting. She is now venturing inside stores.
It's important for dogs like this to learn to think properly when in situations they are uncomfortable in and to become a bit more adaptive. We want them to trust our guidance and to remain compliant in various situations and mindsets.

I did a handler follow up with Mr. Whiskey and his owner today. I trained Whiskey about 6m or so ago now.
Before coming to me for training he had explosive reactivity toward other dogs. It was so severe he had pulled his owner down and injured them. He would explode at the site of a dog even 200 yards away. I was not Whiskeys first trainer either. He had worked with THREE trainers before me to include private coaching and a board and train program. His owner was desperate and told me I was there final attempt to try and control this.
As you can see Whiskey is doing fantastic and is enjoying multiple neighborhood and park walks every single day. His elderly owners are able to handle him safely. I'm super proud of Whiskey and his owner. It was a pleasure to follow up with them today.

Roscoe was another one who came very timid and untrusting. I've taken things slow to work hard on trust and bonding while lacing in some obedience foundation as I can.
He now enters the training area with enthusiasm ready to learn. Look at this boy! 👀 💙

Before Suzie completed her program she got to meet the stunning Simba. Both were very intrigued and Simba was a gentleman.

My son's, Blake and Blane, both play a large role in the puppy programs. From taking them out for the very frequent pottying outings, supervising and managing their behaviors inside, feeding, exercise/playtime and they even get involved in the obedience training.
Blake is 9yrs old and Blane is 5yrs old. I think this is super productive for both the puppies and children involved.

Since it wouldn't post both videos together, here is Shelby doing a little puppy obedience the same as her brother Rocco.

Little Rocco and Shelby doing a little puppy obedience. We are focused on numerous things with puppies at this age. Yes, they're learning sit, down, recall, leave it and transitioning from luring to hand signals and learning verbals but that's not the most important part.
They are learning how to learn. We're enhancing appropriate drives to maximize learning, teaching markers and they are learning how to problem solve and to "think". We are laying a positive and motivational foundation that will be invaluable for more advanced work later on.
These guys have done great with all the focuses here. House Breaking foundation and social behavior has all gone great as well. I was able to deeply assess their temperament and can now better inform their owners and help guide them to set them up for success. I've seen the pups strengths and weaknesses which is important to understand.
Keep an eye out for their return in the near future for their next phase of training.

One thing I will test dogs on during their programs is what I call a "Handler Transition Test". For this I have someone other than me, the trainer, handle the dogs to assess how well the training holds up in someone else's hands. This is very informative.
In this clip you will see Ranger transition perfectly to my wife, Christen, keeping a beautiful loose leash walk despite her not being his usual handler and him being in a store he had never been in before.

Ozzy and I stalked another trainer and their dog for some proofing work. He rocked his in-store heeling!

Morning playtime for Rocco and Shelby!
The pups have quickly improved on their efficiency pottying so we are opening up more outside play time before the rain hits. We'll monitor if this influences future potty outings and adjust accordingly.
How cute are they?
