Jim Potter Stables attended the Ohio Classic Regional Championship June 21-22 at Champions Center in Springfield, Ohio. This was a very nice show hosted by the Mid-Ohio Walking Horse Association, with plenty of classes across multiple divisions. Multiple JPS customers are Mid-Ohio members, including Mag Ranft who is the association president. Before the show, Mag Ranft, along with other club members, set up a lovely center ring...most all the plants provided by Mag Ranft along with some lovely arrangements from Wendy Kaufman and other club members. There was a nice exhibitor dinner on Friday, allowing time to relax and enjoy some down time between sessions. Even though a smaller string this year, it was still plenty busy with horses spanning multiple divisions. Amber Kendeigh, the new barn assistant for JPS, tackled the unusually hot weather and all the challenges of new barn....and did great !! Topping the string, Ozone Alert went undefeated in the SSH Open Shod division for owner Marianne Springer. The JPS horses showed well all weekend with multiple qualifiers for the NWHA Regional Championship classes at the National in September. Congrats everyone !! Some of the top placings....

Some 2024 recap....

Jim Potter Stables kicked off the show season at the Spring Fling, hosted by the Walking Horse Association of Ohio and affiliated with KY HIO. This 2-day show was held May 10-11 at Henderson Arena in Jackson, Ohio. The horses showed well all weekend with plenty of trips to center ring blue. Another successful event for JPS. Jim Potter Stables was well represented February 24, 2024, at the Mid-Ohio Walking Horse Association Banquet for 2023 High Point Awards. The barn captured High Points spanning multiple divisions including 14 Champion titles. Then added Reserve Grand Overall High Point Horse of the Year with Ozone Alert for owner Marianne Springer, and Reserve Grand Overall High Point Youth of the Year went to Kenzie Gildow (with her JPS horse OG’s Too Good Lookin and her own AOT horse). The evening wrapped up with Michelle Lamb chosen by Mid-Ohio members for the honored Evelyn William Memorial Sportsmanship Award. It was an enjoyable evening of good folk getting together over good food and drink to celebrate the past year successes. Congratulations Everyone !!

Congratulations to Owners, and Trainer Jim Potter on 32 National Walking Horse Association 2023 High Point Awards, including 15 Grand Championships...wow! The hard work and dedication was evident with all the Grand Champion awards, Reserves and multiple other High Point Awards from All Day Pleasure to Plantation, Racking to Spotted Saddle Horse….which made for a busy and very enjoyable evening at the Potter table.

Ozone Alert topped the evening with three Grand Champion honors, capturing repeats in Country Pleasure Racking, Spotted Saddle Horse Open Shod and Pleasure Racking for owner Marianne Springer, and also Reserve Rail Horse of the Year. Coming on strong in 2023 was We Don't Talk About Bruno, taking Grand Champion High Points in Country Pleasure English and Western for owner Megan Jenkins. Whoopi's Elite Coin, another multi-year grand champion, took home two Grand Champion titles for owner Nancy Eakins in Park Lite Shod English and Optional tack. Mischief Managed again earned the Grand Champion honor in Junior Trail Pleasure, and this year added the top honor in Trail Pleasure Optional Tack for owner Mag Ranft. New to the string this year, OG's Too Good Lookin' walked away with two Grand Champion High Points in Plantation English and Optional Tack for owner youth Kenzie Gildow. In the large All Day Pleasure division, Lined Up and Walkin won Grand Champion High Point in Optional Tack for owner Lori Alsman. New to the Plantation division, Rowdy Reward took Grand Champion honors in Western for owners Tina Donaugh and Nancy Eakins. Rowdy Show Stopper, another multi-year grand champion, again took the Grand Champion honor in Lite Shod Canter, this year with Michellel Lamb. And Off The Clock, owned by Tina Donaugh, earned Grand Champion High Point in Trail Pleasure Western.

Congrats to trainer Jim Potter, assistant Sara Misura and JPS Customers on capturing 13 Walking Horse Report High Point awards for 2023 including 4 Grand Champion honors. Ozone Alert owned by Marianne Springer, once again earned the top honor in Spotted Saddle Horse Open Shod…seventh year in a row!! Rowdy Show Stopper took home the Grand Champion high point in Amateur Lite Shod with new customer Michelle Lamb. In the Open/Plantation division, OG's Too Good Lookin took Grand Champion high point honors for youth Kenzie Gildow, another new 2023 customer. Jim Potter Stables wrapped up the 2023 show season at the Mid-Ohio Walking Horse Association Fall Round-Up show Oct 13-14 at Champions Center in Springfield, OH. Nice fall weather at a very nice all indoor facility that included an exhibitor dinner on Friday. The majority of customers at JPS belong to the Mid-Ohio Walking Horse Association, so this show had an added "home" show meaning. Mag Ranft, the association president, was extra busy not only with showing, but also with multiple other pre and post-show responsibilities. Mag Ranft and Marianne Springer brought plants and decor and did center ring set up in beautiful fall colors along with set-up help from Wendy Kaufman and Michelle Lamb. JPS Assistant Sara Misura, an invaluable asset, had horses prepped and show ring ready for their classes...she rocked it just as she has done all year. And Sara had a chance to have some fun in a Redneck Showmanship class on Friday evening, it was a hoot. As typical at this fall show, got a tad busy at times when JPS had multiple back to backs....but as usual, all worked out and the JPS horses taking top placings. Wendy Kaufman catch rode Lined Up And Walkin' for owner Lori Alsman (who was unable to make the trip) in the All Day Pleasure division, and captured to Championship titles on Saturday night...way to go!! Topping the string was Junior Trail Pleasure horse Mischief Managed who captured multiple wins in both aged and junior classes, including 2 Championships with owner/rider Mag Ranft. The JPS string did great across multiple divisions all weekend, with every horse capturing blue. What a wonderful way to end to the 2023 show season. Congrats to Everyone !!

Jim Potter Stables puts forth a lot of support to the NWHA National with a large number of horses. Additionally, this group generously donates monetarily to support the show and gives a lot of volunteer time, including volumes of time by Mag Ranft Ranft, one of the show chairpersons. Mag also handled campsites and hay delivery coordination along with multiple other event responsibilities. Additionally, yearlong work occurs by Jim Potter, NWHA President, and Mag Ranft NWHA BOD.

Topping the string this year was Rowdy Reward ridden by Jim Potter for owner Tina Donaugh.....in the Plantation division, walked to 2 Grand Champion titles and a Champion title. Another Grand Champion title went to Lined Up and Walking in the All Day Pleasure division with rider Jim Potter for customer Lori Alsman. And right behind them in the same All Day Pleasure Grand Championship, was Wendy Kaufman who took the Reserve Grand with Whoopi’s Promise Angel…wonderful to have the barn horses go 1-2!

New to the barn this year, Michelle Lamb captured Champion honors in Amateur Lite Shod 3-gait with Rowdy Show Stopper…and Michelle was game to catch ride a barn horse in the Racking division and had lots of fun! Also new to the barn this year is youth Kenzie Gildow with her horse OG’s Too Good Lookin, shown in the plantation division and she did great. Another new customer this year is Merleene Pacheco, who rode her 2yr old filly, The Keeper Of The Flame to a really nice reserve in Trail Pleasure.

During the show, assistant Sara Misura was able to participate in some dressage and versatility events with her 2yr old filly Sally Field. The filly was also ridden in a Trail Pleasure youth class by Kenzie Gildow, and Sara and Wendy Kaufman had fun in the double rider class.

Friday afternoon was the Wounded Warrior Class: Jim Potter rode Sally Field for owner Sara Misura, and Wendy Kaufman rode her horse Whoopi’s Promise Angel. On Saturday for Closing Ceremonies, Jim Potter carried the NWHA Flag (an honor bestowed to Pegasus Award recipients) with Rowdy Sunshine, owned by Pam Lawler.

Throughout the weeklong show, there were lots of great placings across the string that spanned multiple divisions. Congrats everyone !!

A new show on the schedule this year for JPS was the Society Show, August 17-19, held during the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, Illinois. The classes are spread out over 3-days and mixed in with multiple other breed classes, allowing opportunities to watch other breeds. Customer Michelle Lamb made the trip and had very nice rides on Rowdy Show Stopper. Customer Marianne Springer also made the trip, but as a helping hand this time, and Jim Potter did the showing of her horse Ozone Alert. Since JPS had not been to this event before, was during a state fair, and Jim was doing most all of the riding, went with a smaller string of 5 horses. As usual, assistant Sara Misura had each horse prepped and ring ready for their class, along with all the other behind the scenes work. The horses traveled well, handled all the fair activities and showed well…making for a very successful event for JPS. The 5 horse string captured 4 Grand Championships, 5 Firsts, 2 Reserve Championships and 2 seconds. Congrats everyone!

The show schedule this year included the Indiana Celebration, an NWHA affiliated Regional Championship Show held July 6-8 in New Castle, IN at Henry County Fairgrounds. This is a wonderful 3-day event, with relaxed mornings, allowing plenty of time to get horses ready for sessions starting in the afternoon. The event included an exhibitor dinner Saturday where folks could relax and enjoy a meal before final evening championships. JPS horses did great from start to finish…winning 14 Grand Championships across multiple divisions including: All Day Pleasure, Country Pleasure, Trail Pleasure, SSH Open Shod, Plantation, Pleasure Racking, Junior Horse, Youth….and the Best In Show. There were also 19 Champion honors won across multiple divisions throughout the show, along with 5 Reserve Grand Champions and other great top placings.

The last class of the show was the Best In Show…a deep talent class. JPS folks cheered on Megan Jenkins as she masterfully rode We Don’t Talk About Bruno to Grand Champion honors….what a great ending to the show !!

Topping the string this year was Ozone Alert, capturing 3 Grand Championships in SSH Open Shod and Pleasure Racking along with multiple wins in the prelims with Jim Potter and owner Marianne Springer. Rowdy Reward was undefeated in the Plantation division with Jim Potter, taking home 2 Grand Championships for owner Tina Donaugh. Junior Trail Pleasure horse Mischief Managed also took home 2 Grand Championships with owner Mag Ranft. Assistant Sara Misura was plenty busy and did a great job having all the horses prepped and ring ready…and did still manage to get out of the barn and catch ride So Boujee to blue in junior plantation. All of the JPS horses showed great from start to finish making for a very successful and enjoyable show. Congratulations Everyone !!
