UPDATE: We are extremely grateful for the overwhelmingly positive response to our free spay/neuter program. We kindly ask for your patience as we respond to each and every request for an appointment. We have more than 1000 emails to get through as of this afternoon.

We are so excited to offer spay and neuter surgery for free, made possible by PetSmart Charities! The Louisiana SPCA Community Clinic is now able to offer free spay and neuter surgeries for owned animals anywhere in Louisiana. Our clinic is located in Orleans Parish, but the offer is not limited to Orleans Parish residents.

If your pet is not fixed, schedule an appointment with the Community Clinic to take advantage of this offer before our funding runs out! Be sure to make an appointment by filling out the form at https://www.la-spca.org/free-spay-neuter-request-form

LASPCA Plaquemines Campus as well as New Orleans Campus needs help. Please consider fostering or adopting.

Like many others, we are taking necessary precautions for the coronavirus (COVID19) pandemic. We provide a critical service to animals that must continue, and in order to ensure that we have enough staff and volunteers to care for the animals, we need your help.

Urgent Needs
🐾Adopt🐾
While we are moving to appointments only for adoptions, we need help to get as many animals adopted! Waiting out the next few weeks in a shelter isn't good for animals, nor for the staff working tirelessly to care for them! Animals - and their loving adopters - will be much happier this next stretch if they're home together. We need adopters more than ever before - please visit www.la-spca.org/adopt to view animals available for adoption at our New Orleans and Plaquemines Campuses and fill out an application to make an appointment.

🐾Foster🐾
Can you take in a cat or dog for a few weeks or even days? We know that if we can reduce the number of animals in our shelter by getting them adopted or out to foster homes, we can provide even better care to the animals who remain inside our buildings. To become a foster, please fill out an application at www.la-spca.org/foster.

🐾Supplies🐾
We are in need of some essential items to continue to care for the animals. Please visit our amazon wish list to donate some of these items. If you aren't able to donate these physical items, consider donating so that we can purchase these items ourselves. www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/9DI01XPQAGD8/ref=hz_ls_biz_ex

Facility Updates
Beginning Wednesday, March 18 the Louisiana SPCA will require all visitors to schedule an appointment to control the number of people inside each facility at one time.

🐾Adoptions🐾
To adopt, fill out an adoption application online at www.la-spca.org/adopt. A Louisiana SPCA employee will contact you within 24-hours to schedule an appointment to come in.

🐾Community Clinic🐾
The Community Clinic is now requiring parking lot pickups for all drop off services and are asking clients to wait in their vehicles until an exam room becomes available.

🐾Lost & Found🐾
Pet owners who lose their pet should file a lost report at www.la-spca.org/lostreport. People who find an animal should call 504.368.5191 before bringing an animal to either facility. Both the New Orleans and Plaquemines Campuses will not accept animals from out-of-parish.

🐾Owner Surrenders🐾
The Louisiana SPCA will honor appointments for pet owners who already have an owner surrender appointment. No new owner surrender appointments will be made at this time. If you are struggling to keep your pet, you are encouraged to call the Louisiana SPCA to see what support and resources are available to you.

🐾New Orleans Humane Law & Rescue🐾
The Louisiana SPCA’s New Orleans Humane Law & Rescue is responding to emergency calls only. These include bite cases and injured animals. All non-emergent complaints should be reported at www.la-spca.org/animalcomplaint.

🐾No Fleas🐾
NO Fleas Market still remains open but is no longer accepting donations at this time.

As you know, in October, we decided to take a step back from operating the Plaquemines Parish Animal Shelter. After considering what was best for the animals, we turned to our friends at The Louisiana SPCA. With their expertise and experience, we are confident that they can continue to serve our community in a positive way that advances animal welfare. We will continue to serve the animals in our community through fundraising efforts to support the Louisiana SPCA.

If you would like receive updates on when they plan to reopen the facility and other news, please leave your email address below or message it to The Louisiana SPCA!

Starting January 1, 2020, the Louisiana SPCA will assume management of the Plaquemines Parish Animal Shelter, formerly run by Plaquemines Animal Welfare Society and the facility will be renamed the Louisiana SPCA’s Plaquemines Parish Campus. After years of working with the Plaquemines Parish Animal Shelter through PAWS as a community partner, we are excited to have the shelter fully join the Louisiana SPCA family. PAWS is still committed to serving the animals in this community and the Louisiana SPCA through fundraising efforts.

In our 130 year history, we’ve impacted hundreds of thousands of animals, and we’ve impacted hundreds of thousands of people in our community. With this location expansion of the Louisiana SPCA, we are excited to extend our reach and impact both animals and people more directly in Plaquemines Parish. Last year alone, the Louisiana SPCA impacted over 70,000 animals.

Plaquemines Animal Control will remain staffed and managed by the Plaquemines Parish Health Department. Following a two-week closure to deep clean and reset the facility, Plaquemines Parish Government and the Louisiana SPCA will host a grand re-opening in mid-January.

If you would like receive updates on when we plan to reopen the facility and other news, please leave your email address below or message it to us!
