SCRIM UPDATE:
The recovery team got really close to capturing him last night.

Using only net guns and humane traps relies on us getting to within 8 feet of him (netgun) or having him run in to the many humane traps we have set around MidCity.

Scrim got just outside of the range of the netgun, but disappeared into this air (like he does) and popped up a couple of blocks away a few minutes later. This happened a couple of times before he disappeared for the night.

He did not show up on on trail cams aimed at the humane traps yesterday, so he got his food elsewhere last night. We did TNR some cats that DID end up getting in his traps:)

Thank you to everyone that put out food/water/blankets/heated pet houses in MidCity. He is surviving thanks to you!

Scrim update!

Scrim is surviving the cold weather. He was moving around Mid City this morning.

We are moving our humane traps/trail cams and feeding stations to match his new locations. You can see his updated map at https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1gcIl6A6tjTTQNpjFu_fb6F4nMLO3imE&usp=sharing.

THANK YOU to everyone that texted sightings and put out food/water/blankets for him during this cold snap.

Y'all are keeping him alive. Michelle

SCRIM UPDATE:

Scrim was on Orleans Avenue, headed to City Park Avenue at 7:20 this morning. By the time the rescue team made it out, he was already gone. Much thanks to the person who sent us this video, confirming he was OK.

Barbara, Tammy and Bonnie have been out this afternoon, looking for Scrim in his last known area, baiting the traps, putting out liquid smoke trails to them and filling the feeding stations in the hopes of capturing him before the cold snap tonight.

If you live in Mid City, please consider putting out some food/water/a blanket for him. It is going to be cold for the next couple of days and we want to give him his best chance of survival out there.

Please, if you see him, text FiveOhFour.231.7865 with his location/direction traveling. The recovery team is standing by.

Thanks

Michelle

Hey everybody!

We’re putting up a “Scrim FAQ” that will be pinned to all our socials. Every day, there are new people who find out about him, and while the community does a great job of explaining his story, we think this will be helpful to address some of the questions and concerns that new followers may have.

The recovery team is ready to go 24/7! If you see Scrim, please text FiveOhFour.231.7865 with his location, time of sighting and direction traveling.

Thanks! Michelle.

Scrim Update:

Scrim made it through the New Year's fireworks! I want to send a HUGE thank you to the driver/passenger who was quick enough to catch a fleeting glimpse of him on the run. This was our only sighting of him yesterday as he crossed Esplanade down Gayoso towards Gayoso.

We continue to search for his new location so that we can place food, water and the humane traps to hopefully get him to safety before the cold weather comes in a few days.

Thank you to everyone who reports sightings. If you see him or think you might know where he hides (under a house/in a backyard/general area) please text me at FiveOhFour.231.7865.

Thanks! Michelle

Scrim Update:

Our first sighting of Scrim was at 11:20 p.m. on New Year's Eve in Old Metairie, near Country Day.

By 6:30 p.m., he had crossed under I-10 via Metairie Road and was spotted close to Second Line Brewing. He made it as far east as the Ideal Market on Broad, then headed up Esplanade toward the bayou.

The last confirmed sighting was at 8:16 p.m. on S. Salcedo, running FAST away from Canal. Check out the map (https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1gcIl6A6tjTTQNpjFu_fb6F4nMLO3imE&usp=sharing)

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to catch up to him or keep eyes on him. He was clocking over 20 mph, weaving through traffic, and going the wrong way on one-way streets—he narrowly avoided being hit multiple times. The team used electric bikes, Vespas, and cars to try to get close enough to see if he’d taken cover under a house or to divert him from traffic, but he was just too quick.

Yesterday, the team worked tirelessly searching for Scrim and following reported sightings. While on the move, they set up feeding stations, trail cameras, and humane traps baited with high-value food to lure him to safety.

Now we’re anxiously awaiting the next sighting to confirm he made it through the night. With New Year’s Day fireworks ramping up again, we know he’s likely to keep running.

If you’re in the Mid-City area, please consider leaving out some food and water. He’s surely hungry after running over 5 miles during the sightings we tracked yesterday, and he’s likely scared, exhausted, and thirsty.

The team will be out again today, rebaiting traps and continuing the search for Scrim.

Scrim Videos:
Thank you to everyone who reported sightings of Scrim in Harahan last night and for not giving up hope on his successful recovery.

I’d to share the last two videos we received from the public of him. The first video 100% confirmed that Scrim was in Harahan. (We’ve received photos/videos of dogs resembling Scrim, from Kenner to the LGD, but none of them were him)

The second video is from Christmas Eve, which I had initially hesitated to share. After that sighting, we had no updates, leaving us uncertain if he successfully crossed the train tracks. I didn’t want to share the video if it marked a tragic ending for him. Tammy thoroughly walked the tracks from Old Metairie to Uptown looking for him, but it now seems that Scrim followed the tracks toward Harahan instead of Uptown.

We’ll be hanging signs in the areas where he was seen last night and have humane traps ready to set up once we better pinpoint his location. Scrim is terrified of fireworks, and when they start going off, he’s likely to run, making it hard to predict which direction he might travel. Please keep an eye out and report any sightings by texting FiveOhFour.231.7866 with any sightings. He could stay in Harahan, head to Kenner or back to Mid City or Uptown. There is no way to predict where he will run when the fireworks start, and he is in flight mode. We can only hope his street smarts keep him safe.

I’ve received numerous texts, calls, and DMs about the various Scrim pages circulating on social media. To avoid confusion, I’ll start updating the original Scrim pages I created when he was safely recovered in October. These pages will now share the same updates I post on Zeus’ Place and Zeus’ Rescues accounts.

The other pages are managed by individuals unknown to me and feature their own ideas, memes, links, and updates, etc. While I’m not in any way asking you to not follow them, I want to clarify that only the pages under my business accounts contain the most accurate, up-to-date information and are solely focused on Scrim. The Zeus’ Rescues Scrim account is this one!

Thank you again for your support and vigilance. Let’s bring Scrim home safely. Michelle

Today was an incredible day! I am dog sitting Scrim while his family is out of town.

Scrim quickly adjusted to my house. We laid on the couch and watched tv. He was so relaxed that he fell asleep in my lap with his head resting on my foot and then he started dreaming. I wanted to live in that moment forever!

He spent some time in sunshine in the yard, met my asscats (they immediately deemed his not a threat which a HUGE deal around here), shared treats with Scooby and just dogged all day.

Tonight he got a nice warm bath and visited with Freba, Tammy, Foxy, Ivy and Rocco.

I am sure it was a lot for him, but throughout it all, he acted like a healthy, well adjusted dog.

I dreamed of this day for 6 long months and at times wasn't sure it would happen, but I am sure glad it did.

Tonight, as he sleeps in bed with me, I will have the best sleep I have had in a very long time.

SCRIM UPDATE!

Yesterday was a monumental day for Scrim and his recovery team! We were deeply honored to receive a proclamation from the New Orleans City Council recognizing Scrim’s incredible rescue journey and the collective effort that brought our city together with the single goal of getting him safe. The proclamation will be displayed proudly alongside his portrait at the front entrance of the rescue building. In addition, a special gift bag filled with treats, toys, and even a Christmas collar was presented to him!

Our little guy continues to make steady progress on his road to recovery. He had a great day yesterday venturing out of his mancave to sit on my lap while the proclamation was presented. He was even comfortable enough to be held by others for pictures! With each passing day, we see more of his true spirit shining through. We're confident he’ll continue to improve with time. 😊

In other news, we learned that in addition to the injuries he sustained while living on the streets, Scrim has also lost several of his canine teeth. Unfortunately, the roots are still there, so he’ll be undergoing surgery on Monday with Dr. Joe to have them removed. We're hopeful this will be the last of his physical injuries to address from his time on the run.

A heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you for continuing to support Scrim’s journey. Your care and encouragement mean the world to all of us who have been part of getting him safe and helping him heal.

With gratitude,
Michelle

Happy Halloween! I got to visit with Scrim today. It just doesn’t get old that I get to do and say that.

His family reports he is doing great and still catching up on some much-needed sleep, with no desire to go outside. I have contacted one of my favorite trainers that works with some of my more traumatized dogs to see what steps we can be taking to ensure he becomes a well-rounded dog.

And, of course, I had to put him in a costume. Enjoy the video of him walking away from me after I changed his outfit, as he strolled back to his man cave. The side eye is real.

If you are driving down Freret, be sure check out the dog statue outside our boarding location. It serves a dual purpose of giving me something to do with my free time since I am not spending my nights searching for Scrim AND makes me smile to remember that he is safe.

And, in a very odd coincidence, I burned myself with the hot glue gun and the blister looks just like Scrim, complete with a hole where I darted him!!! Weird, right?

Michelle
