“OFFICER DORE TO THE RESCUE
On Thursday, January 5, 2023, residents and visitors took over Downtown Denver to take in the National Western Stock Show Kick-Off Parade. As with all large events, Denver Police officers were on hand to make sure everyone had a fun, safe time. One of those officers was Officer Brad Dore, who is currently assigned to our Traffic Operations Unit.
While monitoring his post at 18th and Stout Streets, a man came running up to him and his partner and explained that there was a baby who was not breathing two blocks away. Officer Dore sprang into action, immediately calling for emergency medical services and running to 17th and Stout Streets with the man, where a crowd was standing around the baby as a woman was holding it.
The child's mother was nearby, visibly concerned for the well-being of her child. Officer Dore noticed that the baby was not moving but was conscious. He took the baby from the woman and immediately began administering first aid. He first turned the child over and began patting their back, then cleared their airway, and patted their back again until the baby began to cry. Officer Dore held onto the baby so that mom could gather herself, and while doing so, took his hat off and placed it on baby to help keep them warm.
When Denver Fire and EMS arrived on scene just minutes later, baby was calm and breathing. Officer Dore then handed baby over to EMS and returned to his post”.
