If you're using a non-porous material like stainless steel or ceramic, you can simply rinse the bowl with hot water and a little dish soap and then dry it off. If you're using a plastic bowl, it's best to wash it with hot water and dish soap and then rinse and dry it thoroughly to prevent any residual soap from getting on your dog's food.

Water bowls: Water bowls should be emptied and cleaned at least once a day, and more often if your dog's bowl is in a high-traffic area or if the water gets dirty quickly. Use hot water and dish soap to wash the bowl, and be sure to rinse and dry it thoroughly.
