It was bitterly cold, the kind that seeped into your bones. I had just finished my errands when I decided to step into the church for a moment of reflection. That's when I saw himβ€”sitting on the church steps, hatless, his hands trembling as he struggled to fix his falling-apart shoes.
I couldn't walk past. Something about him struck a chord.
""Let me help you,"" I said, crouching beside him. He looked up, his tired, bloodshot eyes meeting mineβ€”still holding a spark of hope. I fastened his shoes, wrapped my scarf around his shoulders, and brought him hot soup and tea from a nearby cafΓ©.

From the outside, my marriage with Mike looked perfect, but it had actually ended long before the paperwork was signed. Mike was all about showing off: fast cars, a huge house, expensive things to flaunt. For him, it was always about the β€œbigger and better” that screamed, ""Look at me!"" When he finally told me he wanted a divorce, I wasn't even fazed. What did surprise me, though, was how quickly he jumped to claim everything: the house, the car, the savings. He even had the nerve to toss me my personal things as if he were doing me a favor.
I just nodded and played along. If he wanted the flashy stuff, he could have itβ€”I had a better plan. My lawyer was puzzled when I didn’t fight back, but I told her to let him take it all. We signed the papers, and I moved out that very day, ready to start fresh. Just before I left, I made one final call, sealing the last part of my plan.
The next morning, my phone buzzed. It was Mike, furious. His voice was nearly shaking.

The groom-to-be, hoping to overcome his fear, decided to ask his father for advice. ""Dad, I'm deeply concerned about the success of my marriage.""
His father replied, ""Do you love this girl?""
""Oh yes, very much,"" he said. ""But you see, I have very smelly feet, and I'm afraid that my fiancΓ©e will be put off by them.""
""No problem,"" said his father. ""All you have to do is wash your feet as often as possible, and always wear socks, even to bed."" Well, to him this seemed a workable solution.
The bride-to-be, overcoming her fear, decided to discuss her problem with her mom. ""Mom,"" she said. ""When I wake up in the morning, my breath is truly awful.""
""Honey,"" her mother consoled, ""everyone has bad breath in the morning.""
""No, you don't understand. My morning breath is so bad, I'm afraid that my fiancΓ© will not want to sleep in the same room with me.""
Her mother advised, ""In the morning, get straight out of bed, and head for the kitchen and make breakfast. While the family is busy eating, go to the bathroom and brush your teeth. The key is not to say a word until you've brushed your teeth.""
""I shouldn't say good morning or anything?"" the daughter asked.
""Not a word,"" her mother affirmed.
""Well, it's certainly worth a try,"" she thought.
The loving couple were finally married. Not forgetting the advice each had received, he with his perpetual socks and she with her morning silence, they managed quite well. That is, until about six months later. Shortly before dawn one morning, the husband wakes with a start to find that one of his socks had come off. Fearful of the consequences, he frantically searches the bed. This, of course, wakes his bride, and without thinking, she asks, ""What on earth are you doing?"" ⬇️"

We had this little brick ring in the backyard that was overgrown and we finally decided to dig it out while cleaning the yard up some.
