Diane is hanging in there - a little Easter miracle (for those who celebrate). ❤️

We don’t yet know the full picture and prognosis, but she’s still with us - alert, eating, and giving us reason to hope.

Thank you to everyone who is rooting for this tough little cat. We are so grateful we got to her before it was too late.

⚠️GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING
This post contains images of a very sick cat.

This is Diane. She’s a community cat who was living at a local recycling business — and she’s now fighting for her life.

We believe Diane had been suffering for quite some time before anyone noticed just how dire her condition was. By the time we got the call, she could barely eat. She could barely breathe. When we saw her in person, we couldn’t believe how a cat got this sick, and no one noticed.

This is the heartbreaking reality for so many community cats: they are everyone’s cats, and no one’s cats. They rely on the kindness of the community for food and shelter, and often don’t receive medical care until it’s almost too late. That’s when local rescuers are asked to step in.

We don’t know how long Diane has been suffering but we are committed to giving her a chance. We don’t want her to story to end this way if we can help it.

A special thank you to Dr. Jacobson and the incredible team at for going above and beyond for Diane — treating her with urgency, compassion, and dignity. Your kindness matters.

Melrose (aka Rosie) is one of the cats we rescued after a bodega closed, leaving her and her three grown kittens behind. Tiny but mighty, Rosie keeps the peace and isn’t afraid to stand up to her foster brothers (to demand her rightful seat on the throne!) Rosie adores feline friends and follows her foster human around like a shadow—offering silent meows, dolphin jumps, and patient head tilts for affection. She’s ready for a forever home!

“Miss Kitty” escaped from her carrier last night (04/13) at around 9pm at the intersection of South 4th st & Havemeyer underneath the BQE. She was last seen running in the direction of the Williamsburg Bridge.

She is a small (about 7 pounds), 2 year old grey tabby named Miss Kitty. She also responds to “Mamas”. She is a very friendly and very vocal cat, but she loves to climb so if you pick her up she may try to climb you.

She also loves treats (especially churros and greenies) if you have them.

Amsterdam is still in critical condition at , after receiving multiple blood and plasma transfusions to help him gain strength and recover from the severe trauma he suffered when he was thrown from a fifth floor window. Unfortunately, he is currently not strong enough for the surgery he needs to be able to walk again.

The longer his recovery takes, the harder it is to process the outrage and heartbreak that brought us here. As a small rescue organization, we are forced to make critical decisions about his care and continued hospitalization, all while juggling the needs of the many other cats and kittens who also rely on us. It’s overwhelming.

Efforts are ongoing - both to save Amsterdam’s life, and to bring the former owner to justice. Updates on both to come.

Thank you for the ongoing support - not just for this cat, but for all of our work, most of which we don’t even have time to share on social media. (If only our cats had thumbs and could help out with admin and Instagram updates ! 🥺)

Please keep Amsterdam in your thoughts. Updates to come.

Today I am thinking about how many cats we save that wouldn’t have to be saved if their humans made better choices, and if our city provided more resources and support for the thousands of cats that won’t be as lucky as Amsterdam - if he survives this ordeal.

But here we are, and we will definitely circle back (again) on those big-picture problems.
Right now, we need to focus on :

1) how to help Amsterdam and
2) how to help Amsterdam while also reserving the energy and resources to support the 50 or so other cats and kittens in our care.

So, here is the Amsterdam update:

+ He is estimated to be somewhere btwn 5-8 years old — maybe older.

+ He is anemic and might need a blood transfusion if his red blood cell count continues to drop. He’s also showing some signs of jaundice (compromised liver function) that could be a result of the trauma.

+ He has a heart murmur that is likely an underlying heart condition. It is not too serious, but it does put him at higher risk to undergo surgery and anesthesia.

+ He needs pelvic repair surgery or amputation of the leg that is no longer weight-bearing due to the severe fracture.

The estimate for either surgery is between $5700- $7000.

All of this, because someone couldn’t control their rage toward a cat who has proven to be nothing but sweet, affectionate, and forgiving.

Thank you, again, for the outpouring of support. Tomorrow he is scheduled for surgery and if all goes well, he will need a foster home where he can recover after surgery. ❤️

‼️ URGENT ‼️

This is a cat who was thrown out of a fifth-floor apartment window because he allegedly scratched the owner’s child. He landed on a roof three stories below and remained there for over 24 hours—in the cold and in the rain.

He’s now with us. We named him Amsterdam, and he’s in a world of pain —he has a fractured pelvis and possibly a fractured jaw—and he’s now en route to the hospital.

This isn’t the cute kitten post we had planned for today. This isn’t cute; it’s heartbreaking and monstrous. While we are focused on first getting him emergency medical care, we’re also looking for the tenant who did this so that a police report can be filed and they can be held accountable.

More updates to come. Amsterdam received triage care at and is now en route to where we expect he will need surgery.

We hate to keep asking, and we hate to be in the position to ask but we need your support. Amsterdam didn’t deserve this and we will do everything we can to help him.

“Tree cat” has been with us for four days - after being stuck in a tree for three days- and he’s starting to show the confidence of a cat who knows his tree-climbing, food-scavenging days are behind him! 🥹 We finally settled on the name “Monchichi” for the plush, magical, tree-dwelling dolls of the 1980s. His other nicknames include: Koala Cat, Sir Clings-a-Lot, Twiggy and Branch Manager.

Monchichi is in a foster home now and will go to clinic on Wednesday for his neuter and vaccines. He’ll be available for adoption once he is fully vetted and we get to know him a little better!

Today we posted flyers in and around the bodega where Ginger was once a fixture by the register and had so many admiring fans.

Ginger is a young bodega cat who now needs extensive medical care that the shop owners are unprepared to cover, and we couldn’t turn our backs on his suffering.

Tonight he is still hospitalized for heart failure that is due to a likely congenital condition that was undetected until his lungs began to fill up with fluid and his breathing became labored.

We have so many other cats right now that are awaiting ver visits and medical care, and now we are scrambling to save Ginger’s life.

PLEASE, help us help Ginger. We have already spent $3000 for his hospitalization and we need to raise another $1100 to pay for a cardiologist appointment to properly diagnose and treat his condition.

If you can’t donate, please SHARE this post! We are a rescue organization and not financially equipped to also be taking on the medical care of owned bodega cats.

GINGER, A GREENPOINT BODEGA CAT, NEEDS OUR HELP.

Ginger is a local bodega cat who is fighting for his life tonight. Earlier today, the owner reached out to us, concerned about Ginger’s labored breathing and lethargy. We were already acquainted with this sweet young boy, having worked with the owner previously to neuter and vaccinate Ginger and several other cats residing at his stores.

Today we rushed Ginger to where he was diagnosed with heart failure - the difficult breathing was due to fluid accumulating in his lungs. Most likely this is due to a congenital heart defect that until now went undetected. He is receiving oxygen support and emergency medical interventions to stabilize him and he will need an appointment with a veterinary cardiologist ASAP to perform a full cardiac workup and determine a treatment plan. Without medical intervention, Ginger could have only days - or even hours - to live.

We are working with Ginger’s bodega family to save his life, and yes, this does underscore a bigger issue around medical care (and lack thereof) for NYC’s bodega cats, because health issues are inevitable and local rescue orgs like ours can not be the safety net for all of them. Ginger, we hope, will be one of the lucky ones, with your help.

Julian climbed to the top, looked down, and immediately regretted some of his life choices. But, being a cat, he pretended it was on purpose and regrets nothing.

Julian is available for adoption to a home with admiring humans who are ok with being valued only for their body heat and opposable thumbs. No other cats, please.

WE GOT HER.
The last of the four cats from a bodega that closed its doors, leaving the cats to fend for themselves on the street. This family of four tabbies was hiding under cars and crying to be let back in to the only home they ever knew.

It took a while to find the last one - a small female who was momma to the other tabbies and, at only two years of age, had birthed multiple litters of kittens. Some of those offspring were killed by cars, some given away to anyone who would take them.

Two of the cats - the males - are very fearful of humans and that’s likely because of the pungent odor this is characteristic of intact males and made them more unwelcome at the store once they reached adulthood. Now that they’re neutered, the scent is gone but as feral cats, they have very little prospects for adoption.

The owners were asked repeatedly to “allow” the cats to be spayed and neutered. They refused, despite seeing (and smelling) the tragic consequences.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
The next time you walk into a bodega and see a cat, ask the owners if the cat is spayed/neutered and vaccinated. Ask for proof. Ask them where the cat sleeps and eats. If there are signs of neglect or breeding of the cats (for the purpose of selling them) - CALL 311 Or file a report online.

Let these shops know that you won’t shop there if they are not spay/neutering their cat(s) and providing adequate care. Ask questions, demand answers, be the help that these cats need.

Breaking Mews! In an unprecedented and historic moment at the Acatemy Awards, our very own Tai Chi has won Best Actress for her starring role in “The Lady Who Loafs.”

It took her years to purrfect the art of the loaf 🍞 and her talent could have been overlooked had we not rescued her a month ago from a Manhattan park where she was left by her human. 😿

Also known as “Tree Cat,” Tai Chi is scheduled for spay surgery tomorrow and also needs a dental for the few teeth she still has! And then she needs a forever home !
