‼️Abandoned bearded dragon needs a ride upstate to reptile rescue facility ‼️

This bearded dragon was found in a box in a building’s trash room. Thankfully our friends at know a lot more about reptile care than we do and are caring for this poor guy (or girl?) until we can find it a ride to reptile rescue group .of.pancakes in Poughkeepsie, NY!

It needs medical care that the rescue facility can provide so we want to get it on the road ASAP.

This is a picture of a cat who is recovering from life-changing surgery, thanks to a micro-grant from Dover’s Chair - a foundation dedicated to helping small animal rescue organizations make a bigger impact in their communities.

“Little Cat” had been living on the streets with his human for over a year before he came to us. The owner finally received the help they needed to get housing and medical care, but sadly there is less of a safety net for the pets that are left behind in these situations. Due to a series of untreated ear infections, Little Cat had suffered irreparable ear damage that required major surgery to alleviate the chronic pain and inflammation.

Thanks to the $5000 grant from Dover’s Chair, Little Cat was able to receive this life-changing surgery and as of today, is happy and pain-free. (And he is not the only cat that will benefit from this fund!) 

With their mission to support all kinds of animal welfare organizations at a grassroots level, Dover’s Chair is empowering small animal rescue organizations to make a bigger impact in their communities.

Fun fact: Gordo was formerly known as Care Bear and comes from the same place where we rescued Sugar Bear. Can you see the resemblance ?? (You can see Sugar Bear in his foster home but he’s off the market and officially adopted ! 🎉🐈)

Please give a warm welcome to Hana, our first rescue of 2025 🥳🍾

Hana was rescued from beneath a car where she had been hunkered down for a few days, only emerging to scavenge for food. We worked with the concerned neighbors who had tried to lure her out but the kitten was just too scared. We set up a few traps and a few hours later - Hana was rescued 🎉🥳

‼️PSA: Kittens are drawn to car engines because they provide warmth, shelter, and safety, especially during colder months. The small spaces in and around the engine make it easy for them to hide. If you have a car, always knock on the hood or honk the horn before starting your car, especially in cooler weather ‼️

We are so relieved that Hana is inside and safe tonight on this windy, chilly first day of the new year. PLEASE SHARE this post to remind drivers to what they can to prevent harm to cats and kittens like Hana! 🚗

On this balmy New Year’s Eve, WE HAVE GREAT NEWS to share with you : Karen of McCarren Park has found her new forever home! 🥳🎉🍾 (Swipe for a recap of her rescue!)

Since rescuing Karen just 11 days ago from the park where she was abandoned in below-freezing temps, we have rescued THREE more cats who were seemingly dumped or abandoned by their owners in Greenpoint and North Williamsburg. Rescuing friendly abandonded and stray cats consumed much of our time in 2024, sadly, and this overwhelming NYC cat crisis is a problem we hope can be addressed and tackled at a higher level in the very near future.

For now, let’s celebrate the happy endings for cats like Karen who will be enjoying a new life in the New Year. ❤️

We love you, Karen. Happy New Year, sweet girl!

It’s Christmas, Carol! Why the sad face?!
Carol is a lone kitten we took in on Christmas Eve and of course we had to give her a festive name 🎶☃️

She’s in temporary foster with where she’s still very scared but enjoying the snacks, warm bed, and nearby cat company🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛☺️

Carol is one of several new rescues we took in this week, even though it’s probably one of the worst weeks of the year to find fosters. Sometimes you just have to do the right thing and have faith it will all work out ! Carol is very shy and needs a foster who can help her overcome her fear of people. Dwight was living at a waste treatment plant just a few weeks ago and was perhaps the dirtiest, most flea-infested cat we’ve ever rescued. (Swipe for before pics!) His disheveled state suggested he was once an indoor cat who was unequipped for the challenges of outdoor life.

Hi friends. I was feeling some Instagram fatigue for the past week and haven’t posted in the grid but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy. We are busier than ever - especially with foster home challenges that come with holiday season!

Who remembers Puppet?! I teared up when I saw new pics of this most memorable runt, now all grown up (but still small!) in his forever home with his best friend, Pop. 🥹

I wanted to share this with all of you because we don’t post enough “after” stories to show you how many cats and kittens are alive and thriving, thanks to your support. THANK YOU for showing up for the hundreds of cats and kittens that have come through the ‘doors’ of Greenpoint Cats. Some, like Puppet, needed extra care and even hospitalization that wouldn’t be possible without this community that EXCEEDED our expectations and goals on Giving Tuesday.

This week alone, we rescued several cats and kittens that were waiting to be rescued, booked appointments for others that were waiting for essential surgeries and medical care - all of that now possible thanks to funds that were raised AND TRIPLE MATCHED by two extra generous donors on Giving Tuesday 💕

An update on Manny, our Giving Tuesday rescue:

Left in a taped up cardboard box at a construction site in Greenpoint, this adolescent kitten is one of the lucky ones to be rescued and in a temporary home tonight.

He is perfectly imperfect, with a broken tail and unbroken spirit 💕 Thankfully the crooked tail doesn’t seem to bother him and he’s able to use the litter box just fine.

It’s been a busy Giving Tuesday with an early morning trip to ASPCA spay / neuter clinic and then this: a kitten left in a taped up cardboard box at a local construction site. Thankfully these kind neighbors scooped him up and reached out because the alternative is too sad to imagine.

He’s with for the day while we search for a foster home.

Congratulations, you made it through another cold Monday in January. Now tuck yourself in 🛌 and enjoy 25 seconds of Carol content. Carol came to us as a new rescue on Christmas Day. She’s around four months old and is ready for adoption to a home with a young cat or kitten (we can also pair her with another kitten.) At 5:42 PM on Friday night, we got an email about a cat that was stuck on the side of the elevated Brooklyn-Queens expressway. By 6:45PM the scared little kitten was rescued, thanks to the incredible response to the 🚨SOS 🚨sent out by us and our friends @puppykittynycity . The kitten had been perched there for hours with traffic whizzing by on one side and a 40 foot drop on the other (into more traffic). It was terrifying to witness and obviously even more terrifying for the kitten. With volunteers stopping traffic to form a safety net below, Officer Hernandez of Greenpoint’s 94th precinct (and a cat parent himself!) was able to get the kitten into a carrier and back to the precinct. “Perry” is now warm and safe at @puppykittynycity and if you want to know the story behind her name - check out the small-world story on their IG!
