Jack has been looking for a home since the beginning of 2021, when Animal Aid, Inc. first brought him into their foster program. Unfortunately, it was then discovered that this 18-pound boy had low-grade mast cell cancer. Thanks to their dedicated medical team, he was able to have some growths removed, and he began to feel much better.
With the help of some very kind and patient fosters, Jack has been doing well. While he can have some challenging moments, this 8-year-old boy is a very smart pup that will do just about anything for a yummy treat. Jack’s ideal home would be with someone who is patient, so that he can continue to trust in humans and live a confident and happy life! Although he does get along with a few dog-savvy kids in small doses, he would do best in a child-free home.
Here are some other important things to know about Jack:
-Loves to play fetch and tug-o-war
-Enjoys playing with calm and respectful doggy friends who don’t steal his toys
-His favorite activities include going to the beach and sunbathing!
-Has some handling sensitivities on certain parts of his body.
-Not a fan of being left alone
-Dislikes cold or rainy weather (we feel you there buddy!)
-Does NOT want to be disturbed if he is curled up under the covers!
Although Jack has a history of mast cell cancer growths, which can reoccur, his vet thinks that there is a low risk of these growths complicating his quality of life, as they can be removed if they come back. The growths can cause him to be itchy at times, so he does take some medicine to help with that.
Due to Jack’s medical and behavioral needs, Animal Aid is offering a $500 annual grant to assist in the costs of his ongoing medical care. Additionally, they are offering a one-time $500 grant to work with the Certified Veterinary Behaviorist and Certified Trainers at Synergy Behavior Solutions to set him and his family up for lasting success.
