Teaching your dogs to do nothing is still training.

With a full house, kids, client dogs and cats “place” and “settle” are things we constantly work on.

These help with impulse control and boundary frustration as well as an overall calm in the house. Although our pack can coexist together in harmony we do follow often a structured crate and rotate routine. This allows multiple dogs out together with minimal concern for someone to push buttons while I’m working.

These guys pictured are on leash due to the fact the kids were running around. By being on leash they can remain out and in the middle of things but know where they should be and learn to settle with next level distraction.

Katsusaburou go Tomoe “Enkai” with his little 🖤

We took a visit up to the property to map out tree, the pond and the future of Akagawa Roushya and FSH.

This dog has become my heart and soul and then some. We have a major year in store for 2024 and cannot wait to see what awaits us!

There is nothing better than a dog you can take out for a hike, get muddy and cause chaos with.

I love watching these dogs just exist in nature. They have such a presence that I have yet to see in any of my other dogs.

We took the bitty out for her first official hike.

This puppy has everything I hoped for and then some. Her temperament is a joy. She’s bold and confident with very slight hesitation…perfect blend of mom and dad.

Baby Eywa is following in mom and dads footsteps with the intense food motivation and fast accurate movements

Netayum is still looking for his forever home but we started working more on house manners in conjunction with a few fun things he may use if he ends up in a sport home 🤞

Both are super confident and comfortable in new situations and very willing to try anything you throw at them.

Exciting news!

We're working on some big steps!

The National Kishu Ken Club has submitted their first standard document to the American Kennel Club to better describe the Kishu Ken than the currently available materials. This standard utilizes the Nihon Ken Hozonkai standard and knowledge to help bring a more robust breed standard to the USA and the American Kennel Club.

We are also developing our first educational slideshow and illustrated standard for further standard and judge education.

5 Weeks today I can’t believe it! We have a pretty confident and sassy group here.

Babies have been exploring the outside everyday, have encountered stray leaves and bugs as well as thunder and rain. All take everything in stride with very little spooks. If they do the recovery is quick much like mom
And dad which is lovely!

Their potty training is going great! They whine to go outside which has been a revolving door of in and out at this point 😂

They also are on solely kibble 🙌🏼 they try to nurse when mom allows but that’s less and less and frequent daily.

There is currently a HHS/CDC rule change being proposed to come into effect after July 31st, 2024. This rule change will make it impossible to import puppies from rabies free and low risk countries under the age of 6 months.

If this passes, it will be 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 to the Kishu Ken population in the USA, where we do not have enough foundation stock to create a viable long term population. Raising the minimum import age from rabies free and low risk countries to 6 months will destroy our available options for import from Japan.

It is remarkably difficult as-is to find breeders who are able and willing to do all the steps to export to the USA, raising that export age to 6 months will add further prohibitive barriers in both logistics and dog adjustment periods.

So what can you do about it?

You can:

1. Comment on the HHS/CDC proposed rule change. Tell HHS/CDC that you oppose this change in whatever language you choose. This rule change states it is being proposed to mitigate the spread of disease, targeting rabies. It that is the case, increasing the age of import from Japan and other rabies-free or low-risk areas simply illogical. 2. IMPORT. If you have been waiting for the "perfect" time, now is that time. We have one year to import more foundation stock to the USA to get in before any rule change takes effect (confirmed via correspondence w/CDC.) After that, things will become more difficult. For this I will be targeting KISHU KEN - if you would like to co-own an import or import independently PLEASE reach out to me and I will do my best to help you.

Babies are 10 days old 🙌🏼 we have the start of ears and are working really hard on eyes.

Ume has been a rockstar even given her current state of health. Snuggles are a must tonight for my girl 🖤 The beans are growing and strong and LOUD! The tiny growls are the best.

Well this morning has been an adventure to day the least!

Ume welcomed 3 gorgeous babies here to western NY.

Of course as we are rushing to the repro vet an hour away…we have the first baby girl less than a minute away from the hospital. Within 30m the next two were safely delivered.

Now we are home and settled and she is being a great first time mama 🖤and babies are fat and happy!
