We have arrived
In our spikes and vines era
. Saturday. 9-1.
Happy Memorial Day from our first field dahlia!
Happy Mother’s Day to one of the best. And to the long line on women who came before me. Thanks for sticking with me and showing me what endless energy looks like. I find power in the quiet and loud strength of these women. And extra thanks for being a new team member to the Sol Patch crew :)
And to everyone who came to for May Market who helped us sell out this weekend, THANK YOU
Day 2 . Until 5. We have the bright colors.
Again, apologies for missing this weekend. We’ll be back next week!
This is a post in honor of all the accountability buddies out there. Lauren ( ) and I have been learning and farming accountability besties for years. We first met and became immediate friends during our junior year of college when we met studying abroad in India. We immediately clicked over farming. Years later, our farm businesses simultaneously began growing up together. And we’ve been each others coaches and farming companions from many states away. Our farms are very different. She’s in a small town in mid coast Maine surrounded by healthy soils and blueberries, I’m in urban soils engulfed by the Edgar Thompson steel mill.
We help each other in a myriad of ways like:
every email, every price point, what to specify for in our QuickBooks chart of accounts to run helpful reports specific to our farm, which bouquet sleeves to use (size & company), which insurance company to use based off our specific farm needs, what seed company carries the flower variety & quantity/ price we want, what things to think about when buying a work van specifically for flowers, what questions to ask during an interview, we share the same winter project checklist, and troubleshoot mechanical issues with our respective farm equipment, and will even stay on the phone that extra 30 minutes to keep each other motivated to unload our vans after market.
AND recently we got to do all that in person for a whirlwind of a trip to with
Maybe one day we’ll write a zine, have a podcast, swap farms for a season. But for now, it’s just good phone bills aren’t charged anymore by how many minutes a call is cuz we’d be f #%& # . And if you’re lucky enough to find an accountability buddy, or want the encouragement to court someone who you think could fill that role (cuz it’s a lot to ask of your partners! Still working on that :)) I say DO IT
Yay to 12 + years of friendship & farming
Braddocks own Steel Magnolia
and I taught a sweet workshop today. I’m so pleased and happy with these amazing dried flower adorned brooms. Tia is one of the best teachers . I can’t wait for us to grow broom corn this season to be able to provide it for workshops like this in the future. From seed to broom. And of course Ty for being such great hosts. Make sure to get down there these next couple weeks during their pop up in collaboration with
It’s pretty 🔥
Next workshop will be on (April 20th) @ the farm !

At Sol Patch, we believe change is good. Over the last year the farm has undergone LOTS of changes, and mostly for the better. For this holiday season and beyond, we’ve decided to stick with that theme and revamp our bouquet subscription. For what I hope is for the better. This year, we’re offering 3 options!
The 1st of 3 new options is our “Frequent Flyer Pass”: 17 weeks (basically the same as our Full Share from last year) but instead you will receive a punch card so you can choose how many bouquets you’d like each week, up to 17 bouquets total. This allows for flexibility with being out of town without missing a week of flowers. As a special perk, you will also be able to sign up for 1 free U-pick session during the 2024 growing season!
On Monday I’ll tell you about our next option!
Next Wednesday subscriptions will be open for signup!

Sol Patch Garden is a small scale urban flower farm in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We’ve been growing flowers in Pittsburgh since 2017. We concentrate on growing a diverse variety of annual cut flowers. Our goal is to grow flowers that are accessible for all people. Currently we have two operating field sites, one 1/4 acre in Braddock and another 1/2 acre in the Hilltop. During the growing season we offer fresh cut flowers for farmers markets, florists, and special orders. As the season transitions to the fall, we shift our operation to dried flowers.
