✨Here we have my good boy Murphy. (Just some back story of Murph) 🐕🦺✨
💫 Murphy is an extremely timid and shy dog. Very fearful of people to the point where he will bite. Stranger reactivate & Dog Reactive.
💫When meeting Murphy I knew I wanted to build a bond with him to where he’s comfortable around me. I started out my taking him on long walks or even just taking him out the crate and allowing him to just explore and co exist around me. I did this consistently, to where he would start to get excited when seeing me. Then we would just hang out and he would lay closer to me than the day before. Next thing I know he’s now laying in my lap wanting belly rubs.
💫Here in the clip you can see me working on the “Place” command. When ever he allows all 4s to touch the cot he gets rewarded. However Murphy wasn’t super interested in food, so before what you don’t see I’m making his food look interesting and into a game of fetch. So now that I have his attention I can now use this to our advantage.
💫I didn’t use any negative reinforcement just because he’s already a shut down dog and I didn’t want it to interfere with 1. Our relationship & 2. Our training. I allowed him to think of his choices and even help him understand what I’m asking for ( Ex: leaning my body towards the cot after asking for the command) after a few reps you can see me walk away to go grab more food and he offered the command with me having to ask ( he figured out of I go there I get a reward) then I would switch up and just throw a treat just so he has to rethink about the command I’m giving him.
💫You are able to see his excitement and engagement with me. Tail wagging and full eye contact. All in all by the end of the sessions Murphy was a proficient in the “Place” Command.
