The Love & Licks Foundation® was created by Metro Paws® with the objective of saving as many dogs as possible. Proceeds from sales of Love & Licks products go toward no-kill feeder funds across the nation to help prevent the unnecessary premature euthanasia of dogs in shelters. Houdini is house-trained, well-behaved, and gets along with other dogs. While he’s still adjusting to NYC and leash training, he enjoys quiet time and is happy to sit on your lap or chill at a coffee shop. 🐾 Houdini would thrive in a calm home, either as an only pet or with a small, laid-back sibling. He’s a low-key, affectionate companion looking for a gentle family to call his own!

This super loving Lab-Shiba pup is ready for his furever home! Meet Ranger!

Ranger is the BEST boy who is just happy and always smiling. He came to the city shelter weighing 22lbs and left weighing 30lb and now after being in a Maeday rescue foster home, he weighs 40lbs 💪🏽 He is finally the weight he should be and will never be neglected or starved again. Whatever his life was before didn’t bring him down as he loves everyone, loves dogs, kids & just wants to be your best friend. He is a lab shiba mix we think and if you can’t tell- we are obsessed with him!

Meet Jimmy! He’s a 5-year-old Poodle weighing 29 lbs with a friendly and gentle demeanor. While he can be nervous at first, he is quick to warm up and show off his fun-loving personality. Jimmy enjoys spending time with his people, entertaining himself with toys, and going for walks around the neighborhood. He coexists well around other pups, but he especially loves his human friends. Jimmy is a well-rounded boy who is potty and crate-trained and walks great on the leash. At this time, Jimmy will do best in an adult-only forever home. Meet Dax, the cutest love bug you’ll meet. Dax is the sweetest, chillest little guy around. He loves to go on walks, take naps and won’t say no to a belly rub. He’ll chill out while you work, and doesn’t bark.

Dax is crate trained, and sleeps through the night. He gets lots of attention from neighbors, which he doesn’t hate. He’s potty trained, and we haven’t had any accidents in the house. Dax gets along great with my dog, and will even take his bathroom cues from him lol.

This sweetheart never misses a chance to cuddle, making him the perfect companion.

Meet Drako, a 1 year old dog that was indirectly affected by the wildfires in LA. This is his story.  Drako was originally brought in by a citizen to the West Valley shelter as a stray a month ago. When the LA fires started, Best Friends stepped up to the plate! They took Drako and other dogs in to help the impacted shelters’ capacity levels, and he is ready to find a loving home.

This is Ginny and Clementine, two girls who met at our sanctuary more than a year ago and have been bonded ever since. One of of our caretakers caught this sweet moment this week - amidst all the turmoil and uncertainty of things in LA right now, and in our cat community as a result of the fires—this was such a lovely sight.
Ginny was found wandering outside a busy grocery store when we trapped and rescued her. Clementine the “ torbie” was a “gate dump” - very pregnant on arrival, she gave birth within hours! As soon as they both settled in and Clementine finished her child care duties, they found one another and the rest is cat history. 😻They are young cats and would be absolutely perfect companions so if you are looking for a pair of beautiful and affectionate cats— please visit our sanctuary in Atwater Village, any day between 12-5 pm.

Peaches! 🍑

Everyone meet sweet little Peaches! She has the best little personality. Incredibly sweet and cuddly. She gets SO excited to see her people, so many kisses, whole body wiggles and tippy toe dancing. But she also has a spunky side and LOVES to play. She is a toy girl and will never say no to a game of tug. Although she is small right now, she can hang and play with the big dogs.

It took a few days but she is starting to feel more confident in her crate and has no problem napping in there during the day and only needs a little encouragement to get in there at night. She is also making huge progress with potty training and accidents have only really happened if the humans weren’t paying 100% attention to her cues.

She is ready to give her unconditional love to her furever family!

This sweet senior boy deserves a home to spend his golden years. Read about RJ below.

It’s sweater weather and RJ is ready for his forever home! If you’re looking for a “chiffon”, in other words, a shih tzu/griffon mix, RJ is your boy!…RJ is 12 years young, he was found wandering the streets, emaciated and neglected. Red Leash stepped up and saved this guy from a crowded shelter, he’s had a dental and a bump removed from his foot as well. He’s steadily gaining weight and is ready for his people.

His foster mom had this to say, “RJ is a sweet boy, who loves every human and dog he meets. He loves to nap on my lap, he’s a very laid back guy.” He gets excited at mealtime, who can blame him?
