Behavior History
Behavior Assessment

KNOWN HISTORY:: Speedy was brought in with limited information on his behavior history in a home environment.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Social,Calm,Sweet,Curious

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Other

Potential challenges comments:: Speedy is a senior cat with diabetes mellitus. He needs a quiet home and out-patient management with a local veterinarian to manage his condition.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 1

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Speedy is a social, calm, and sweet senior gentleman. He was at the front of the kennel sitting up with a soft body and eyes. When spoken to and opening the door, he hovers over the front edge of the kennel entrance and welcomes petting on the head. He leans in for cheek rubs and raises his hips and tail in the air when stroking his body. During pick up, he is calm and relaxed when held for 5 seconds. After placing him back down, he continues to appreciate more petting and cheek rubs at the front. At the end of the interaction, he reaches his paw through the door to solicit more attention.

Speedy interacts with the assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is suitable for any level of adopter experience who is able to provide quiet home and out-patient management with a local veterinarian to manage his medical condition.

* PLEASE NOTE * KITTENS under the age of 8 weeks or weighing 2 pounds or less CAN ONLY be PULLED by a RESCUE!!!! IF INTERESTED, PLEASE contact a RESCUE ASAP!!!

For more information on adopting from the NYC AC&C, or to find a rescue to assist, please read the following:
If you are local to NYC, and within 3-4 hrs of NYS and NJ and you are SERIOUS about adopting or fostering one of the animals at NYC ACC, please follow the instructions here or message our FB page with our experienced volunteers that will do their best to guide you through the process.
* We highly discourage everyone from trusting strangers that send them Facebook messages, offering help, for it has ended in truly tragic events.*

If you can get to the shelters in NYC:
(212) 788-4000 (wait through the prompts to reach a live person)
Unfortunately we had to remove all the hyperlinks to their websites to see if this was the reason our posts kept getting flagged from FB. The one main link will bring you to many of the ACC outlets of their page such as what we have posted below.

Emergency At Risk Placement list, Emergency outcome list, Location and Hours, List of New Hope shelter rescue partners - You will have to navigate through their site. If you type in nycacc (with out the and) .org all in one word into your browser it should take you onto their main site. You will have to navigate through their site depending what you are looking for. Unfortunately we can't do it here as it creates the direct hyperlink to their site which may be the cause of our posts being flagged by FB. We hope this solves the issue for us.

Update- a huge huge thanks to Frankie's Fund For Feline Care and Rescue for taking sweet Pinkie into their care!! 🩷🩷

Please remember to honor your pledges 😊

TIMESTAMPED PINKIE NEEDS OUR HELP!! 💗

** $10 in pledges to the rescue that pulls **

PINKIE ACCT-A-164154 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical concerns. Pinkie must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER by MONDAY, MAY 20th at 10:00 a.m. Should Pinkie's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Pinkie is a 14 year old spayed female who came to ACCT on 5/11 as a surrender when her owner noted a growth on her abdomen and that she had been losing weight. She is a lovely orange kitty, a senior girl who is nowhere near running out of love and affection for old friends and strangers alike! Unfortunately, Pinkie has medical needs beyond what we can provide at the shelter, and urgently needs to leave with a rescue partner that can give her the treatment and loving home that she needs to live out her senior years in high spirits with the best possible care.

At Pinkie's vet exam (during which she was quite sweet but showed a low tolerance for restraint and medical handling), the veterinarian observed small, firm nodular masses associated with the left 2nd and 3rd mammary glands. She also has a soft cutaneous mass on the left hind limb. The rest of her exam was unremarkable (though a bit difficult to complete thoroughly due to her loud, persistent purr!). Senior bloodwork indicated that Pinkie is possibly hyperthyroid (likely sick euthyroid syndrome). Ideally, Pinkie would have a free T4 test to confirm hyperthyroidism and begin treatment, then have mass removal and biopsy procedure when her thryoid level is a bit more stable.

Pinkie has made several friends on the medical team, and is a popular kitty with anyone passing by her kennel! One staff member notes that during a recent hangout, Pinkie was soliciting pets, headbutting and leaning in for ear scratches and purring so loudly that she could still be heard when the staff member walked away! Another friend notes that she was chatting and nuzzling her kennel door to get attention, again with the purrbox warmed up and rumbling away. Pinkie's owner told us that she loves her family and strangers, getting along well with children and adults, but may do best as an only cat or perhaps with a low-key older cat with proper introductions and decompression time. She has lived with dogs, but does not do well with them; plus as a senior with medical concerns she deserves to have the run of the home and priority access to your lap and attention!

Pinkie is just the prettiest, best girl and loves people so much!

I was once told there’s only a small percentage of the population allergic to cats. Interesting that when a family member dies and leaves a cat or cats every relative is allergic
