Lipizzan Association of North America

Lipizzan Association of North America L.A.N.A. is a Registry for Lipizzan horses, maintaining records of breedings and births of purebred and partbred Lipizzans in North America. Founded in 1992.

Our members also share information and expertise about this rare and historic breed of horse. In 1992, members of the oldest American Lipizzan registry, the Lipizzan Association of America, joined with members of the Lipizzan Society of North America to combine their interests and form the Lipizzan Association of North America (LANA). LANA is a North American representative to the Lipizzan Interna

tional Federation, a world-wide association of Lipizzan owners and breeders. The LANA website includes information on classical dressage training, contact information for Lipizzan breeders, photos of Lipizzans, the history of the Lipizzan horse, links to the Lipizzan stallions of the Spanish Riding School & Austrian Piber Studfarm, and gift items featuring Lipizzan and Baroque horse pictures. LANA’s prime objective is to provide members with accessible, accurate, and verifiable pedigree information, not only from American breeders, but also from overseas sources. To this end, LANA has established the Lipizzan Pedigree Trust to research and maintain pedigree records of purebred Lipizzans. This trust operates under a separate Board of Trustees and functions as a historical repository and research center. Partbred Lipizzan horses are recorded in a separate division of LANA.

A wonderful history of the Lipizzaner breed in Australia. This painting by Cathleen Edkins shows the 1st Lipizzaner horses to come to Australia in the 1970's. Imported by Mr Geoff Adcock (dec) of Ravenswood Stud SA, the horse in the foreground is the stallion Siglavy Flora 1.75 who was the mount for Colonel Hans Handler at the Spanish Riding School. This stallion stood near 15.3hh. 4 mares were also brought out, 502 Trompeta X, 528 Monteaura III, 491 Gaeta VIII & 536 Steaka IX.

Others followed in 1976-1977 – With the Maryanne & Bent Christiansen from Bibaringa stud in the ACT bringing out Pluto Plutona -14 & 3 Hungarian mares Conversano XX-17, Incitato IX-10 (bay) & Neapolitano XIX-2 along with an Arabian/Lipizzaner mare Electra, the Arabian stallion Kazmir & the Warmblood stallion Waszu.

There was also another stallion brought out in 1977 by Fulmer Rise Stud Pluto Nima XII who competed with much success to Prix St George(he only had one purebred foal) the next imports were not until 2002 by Fulmer Rise Stud being 226 Favory Naussica & 227 Pluto XXIX-23 then again in 2005 the stallion 224 Conversano Allegra V was brought in by Habsburg Lipizzaners.

The latest is the German bred Lipizzaner filly KL Generale 321. Imported by Annwn Park Lipizzaner Stud (bred by Kirsch Lipizzaners)

The first Australian breeding stock accreditation was held in 1999 with horses being validated by the former head of the SRS Dr. Oulahla.
