Looking for a new home for my 3 year old Basset Hound, Blanche. She is AKC registered, fixed, potty trained, crate trained and walks well on a leash. She loves people and kids but struggles with resource guarding. We have never had a major incident or injury. She will do a "warning bite" in your direction if she sees food on the ground that she wants. This has been challenging for us with having three young kids, including one with autism who doesn't easily understand the rules we have in place with Blanche. We took Blanche to a behaviorist and did some training. They suggested starting her on meds. She's been on fluoxitine for some time and while it helps her to not be as anxious, we still need to keep her distant from everyone when were eating. It's very challenging for our little kids with snacking. She could live a much happier, stress free life in a home without tiny kids dropping food and/or us having to remove her from the area when our littles are eating.
I want to stress that she is GREAT with kids and our other male dog. She basically perfect other than the resource guarding issues. She'd do great in a family with a little bit bigger kids. She loves to lay against you, sleep by you and follow you everywhere. She will be a great dog for some family. We are about 20 min SE of Grand Rapids.
