PAWS NY

PAWS NY A nonprofit that helps older adults and vulnerable New Yorkers by helping them care for their pets. Thus, our motto: helping people by helping pets.

The mission of Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS) NY is to help New York City’s most vulnerable residents remain with their pets by delivering critical programs and services through a community of partners and volunteers. Our programs help keep pets in their homes while protecting and promoting the human-animal bond that is so physically and psychologically valuable to our clients. We hope you'll help raise awareness for our work by inviting your friends to follow our page!

Meet our newest staff member and Administrative Coordinator Elisabeth (and her dog Aretha Franklin)!!

Elisabeth is a true New Yorker. Her love for animals blossomed early, nurtured by the happy times spent with friends' dogs. Her own journey as a pet guardian began more than two decades ago when she welcomed a rescue puppy into her life. This gift began a continuous, loving companionship with four-legged friends. Today, her world is brightened every day by the presence of the sweet and cherished Aretha Franklin, a five-pound, 15-year-old Yorkie who holds a special place in her heart.

Elisabeth's path to PAWS NY was guided by her desire to serve. While she started her professional life pouring her creativity into acting and the theatre industry (a commitment she still holds as a board member for the nonprofit SheNYC Arts), she became drawn toward organizations dedicated to giving back. She realized working within the nonprofit world was more her speed, which led her to a role at the Actors' Equity Association. Eventually, opportunity knocked when she had the chance to help run a small program called Pet Pals in Queens. There, she discovered that giving comfort and care to animals felt even more meaningful than her work in theatre. She expresses immense gratitude and happiness to continue this heartfelt mission with PAWS NY.

When not at work Elisabeth enjoys indulging her creative passions for interior design and fashion. Her greatest happiness, however, is found in the simple moments of quiet comfort at home, relaxing with her husband and, of course, their beautiful, beloved little dog.

Read more on our website and give Elisabeth a warm welcome to PAWS!

Meet 9-year-old Casey in this week's furry foster update from volunteer Michelle and her partner Leslie. "We had the best time with this goofy girl, who always demanded belly rubs and couch time. Very sweet and affectionate Jack Russell-Yorkie mix with a serious underbite!"

Today is a special anniversary in PAWS NY history. On November 11, 2009 (16 years ago!) our very first volunteer made the very first Housecall visit for PAWS NY! 16 years later, that one volunteer has turned into over 7,000 trained volunteers making 25,900 visits in the past year alone. Great change always starts with taking that first tentative step. The goodness and impact just snowballs from there!

Let's hear it for Team PAWS!! Our runners collectively fundraised a whopping $69,200 to help preserve the human-animal bond for people and pets in need. AND they casually ran 26.2 miles on Sunday... no big deal! If you'd like to run for Team PAWS in next year's marathon, make sure you're signed up for our monthly newsletter here: https://tinyurl.com/5y5uu9ez

Give it up for Team Paws! We look forward every year to seeing the 20 people who rep PAWS NY in the NYC marathon! It’s always a great mix of volunteers and newcomers alike, all of whom have fundraised the $3,000 to help keep people together with their pets for longer. We had a great time at our pizza party, picking up our race tshirts and making friends before the race on Sunday. New Yorkers - if you see a PAWS runner during the marathon in their blue PAWS shirt, give them a shout!
