Did you know August is National Make-a-Will Month? A 2022 survey by Caring.com showed that only 33 percent of Americans have a will or living trust — and 67 percent don't.
If you or anyone in your life is thinking about writing or rewriting your will, we hope you will consider including PAWS NY in your estate plans and become part of Ruby's Legacy Circle. Ruby was the very first pet that we ever helped as an organization back in 2009!
You can designate PAWS NY as a beneficiary in the following places:
Your will or trust
Your life insurance policy
Your retirement plan
Your bank account
You can even designate who will care for your pet if something happens to you. Visit the link below to learn more:

Runner Spotlight: meet Amanda L! Pictured here with her sweet 11 year old Vizsla named Bruce, Amanda L is excited to be raising money for Team PAWS!
"While I am currently a Florida resident, I grew up in NJ only a short train ride away from NYC. I work as an occupational therapist helping people regain, maintain, or retain their independence with life skills after an injury or illness. This charity is a really unique opportunity for me as a dog mom, animal lover and OT! Knowing this money is helping support those who can not care for their animals provides another outlet for me to support those in need."

🚨FOSTER ALERT!🚨
Bowie has been boarded for the last 2.5 weeks and is eager to get more snuggles and fresh air! We're looking for someone who is available to foster for at least the next 4 weeks. He will need to be picked up from E Village ASAP.
Bowie is a 2 year old sweet German Shepherd who needs a foster for the next two weeks while his guardian receives medical care. Bowie loves people but can sometimes be reactive on the leash, so a foster with large dog experience who can guide them away from triggers on walks will be ideal.
Feel free to share with your networks and have them reach out to [email protected] if interested!
Thanks to everyone who donated to PAWS NY and joined us for the New York Mets game on Saturday! It was pretty humid but the fans kept us cool :). What a perfect day for a baseball game! ⚾
to our incredible Barks & Blooms spring benefit (featuring the very photogenic Nala)! Thanks to our incredible community of supporters, we raised more than $70,000 to support the human-animal bond and help New Yorkers stay with their pets.

Happy Funder Friday! PAWS NY received an additional $25,000 grant from the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®), expanding on its support from 2023. This grant will provide general operating support, allowing PAWS NY to continue to deliver critical pet care programs and services to New York City’s most vulnerable residents, helping them to remain with their pets. Thank you ASPCA!
Not every black lab can pull off a bow tie like Jack... Jack was all smiles for our photoshoot by the amazing . Isabel loves her four-legged friend Jack but his boundless puppy-like energy can make it difficult to give him the exercise he needs. Enter Molly! Molly started volunteering for PAWS NY to give back to her community and became fast friends with both Isabel and Jack (the bowtie was Molly's idea!).
Through PAWS NY, Molly takes Jack on weekly walks and ensures he gets the exercise he needs to stay happy and healthy. Likewise, Isabel gets the peace of mind that her furry friend is taken care of by responsible volunteers like Molly.

FUNDRAISER: We’re aiming to raise $15,000 for our Emergency Care Fund so that we can support pets like Maddison!
Maddison is a sweet, 13-year-old Yorkie who is a constant source of love for his guardian, Mr. F. In February, we received a call from Mr. F - he had been hospitalized and didn’t have anyone to care for Maddison. PAWS NY sprang into action. We quickly arranged for a trusted volunteer to foster Maddison while Mr. F received lifesaving treatment. If we hadn’t stepped in, Maddison would have ended up in a shelter.
It turned out that Maddison needed urgent care himself! His heart was weak and he had developed a chronic cough. We promptly arranged for a vet visit, where the vet stabilized Maddison's heart.
Your support can provide life-saving care for Maddison and other pets in need. When Mr. F returns home from the hospital, he will be overjoyed to see a happy, healthy Maddison run into his outstretched arms!

🎊Feel-good Foster Story!🎊
In February, we got a call about two dogs who were left at home after their guardian was hospitalized. Neighbors jumped in to provide temporary care for Hank (3 y/o) and Tula (10 y/o), two sweet terrier mixes, but they were concerned about their medical needs. We immediately arranged foster homes as well as vet visits, but the vet delivered bad news - both dogs would need surgery.
Sadly, just a few days into foster care, Hank and Tula's guardian passed away. Our goal changed from fostering to rehoming, but first we had to address their medical needs. Hank and Tula ended up braving through two surgeries each. Everyone was relieved to see how much better they were feeling!
With the help of Hank's foster, we found his forever home - an experienced Fox Terrier family with a lovely yard for Hank to play and be his energetic self.
One of our volunteers, Caroline, expressed interest in adopting Tula after hearing her story, and after a meet and greet it was clear they were meant for each other!
We are so grateful to everyone who played a part in Hank and Tula's stories and wish them all the best in their new homes!

When people find themselves in difficult circumstances – whether that be with their health, finances, or more – they are unfortunately often forced to give up their dogs. That's why our founder Rachel Herman created PAWS NY in 2008 - to help New York City's most vulnerable residents remain with their pets. Nearly 15 years later, we are bigger than we've ever been. Our core initiative is our Housecall Program, where volunteers go into the home and provide daily assistance on tasks such as walking the dog, cleaning a litterbox, grooming, and more. There's our Veterinary Care program, which arranges and pays for the visit and any transport necessary – whether it's a house call or on-site at a clinic. We have a Pet Pantry sponsorship program, where we give out free pet food and supplies every month. And we've recently launched our Substance Use Recovery Program, where PAWS volunteers step up to foster someone's pet if they have a medical crisis and/or choose to enroll in a recovery program. #pawsny #nyc #donate #nonprofit #dogs #cats #nypets

Heather had a very personal reason for getting involved with PAWS NY: her grandfather had to give away his beloved cat when he got older. So when she heard about PAWS NY, she knew she wanted to get involved. “It’s the relationship. It’s the relationship that you form with the client. The relationship you form with the pet. And really knowing that the work we’re doing at PAWS is keeping them together.” Watch the full Volunteer Spotlight video now and thanks to Isabel Klee for working on these for PAWS NY! In today’s Volunteer Spotlight Video, hear from Samuel, who walks Xena and Khaleesi. He first got involved with PAWS NY about a year ago, after sadly losing his own dog. He wasn’t quite ready for a new pup, but volunteering with PAWS NY allows him to “help people, help dogs, and help me spend more time with dogs.” All great things! “I think we all need that sense of companionship and it’s really beautiful that we can help people keep that. New York City can be a lonely place and being able to have your cat or dog—or guinea pig—is incredible.”In honor of hitting the milestone of training 5,000 volunteers, PAWS NY wants to share some of their stories with you, in these Volunteer Spotlight Videos produced by Isabel Klee. First up, get to know Kathryn, who has been volunteering with PAWS NY for more than six years. Tag along as she takes Ani for a walk in Brooklyn!
