Join us in the beautiful Catskill Mountains for our November interspecies research workshop November 6-9th!
The workshops are taught in close collaboration with natural horsemanship trainer Dan McCarthy. Each workshop includes deep dive studio dance investigations. These include a daily warmup with 5-6 hours of embodied explorations each day. We occasionally also conduct site-specific explorations in natural settings.
The equine explorations include 3-4 hours of hands-on equine exploration each day. These take place at a beautiful farm and sometimes at a nearby horse sanctuary.
If you are interested in exploring embodied movement with equines in a special setting, check out the workshop information at the link here: https://www.equus-onsite.org/dancing-with-horses-in-the-catskills

The Fable
7 dancers, a herd of horses, and Skippy, a miniature donkey
Premiere
Majoda Stables, Moorestown, NJ
November 24th
1-3pm
In this section of The Fable, the human performers are creating a complex assemblage of choreographic material in real time. Each dancer is responsible for remembering every improvised move and logging them into repeatable sequences. The the entire group is accountable to each other while one Alpha dancer determines which sequences get performed. Much like jazz musicians, we are creating a language based on an organizing score. We are practicing a process of real time decision-making we use when choreographing with horses at liberty: A merging of rigorous form and improvisation.
