Posted @withregram • @boroughbredinbrooklyn The first time I laid eyes on Hera she was curled up tightly in the back of her kennel, with an inside out prong collar and a choke chain around her neck. Her paws were gathered together to make a pillow for her big head, and she shifted only her eyes in my direction apprehensively. Hera had arrived overnight and it would be a week before I got to meet her for real - and let me tell you, it was worth the wait! I met her again yesterday, and she is a sight to behold. 99lbs exited the kennel and plodded like a gorgeous panther down the streets of Brooklyn. She is big in all ways - huge head, huge jowls, huge amounts of slobber, still huge cropped ears, and a full tail. The most impressive of her features are her enormous paws. When she gives paw she covers our forearms, almost up to our elbows, dwarfing our human hands with her gorgeous gray ones. We ask her to do it over and over! Though Hera has been a bit apprehensive and worried, the shelter has named her for a Greek goddess, and we know there is a confident girl lost in those jowls!
Hera was brought in as a stray so her background is unknown. In 2 greetings at the shelter she has met dogs with a soft but neutral body. She has shown some signs of being fearful in her interactions with people and would do best in an experienced level 4 home with adults or older kids. Meet Hera at Brooklyn ACC! The shelter is closed today but you can apply or visit any other day between 12 and 5. Hera's ID is #146769.

This perfect pout belongs to Indi. We speak to her exclusively in baby talk, because this is a face to fall in love with and coo over and coddle for eternity. She is nervous but finds comfort in our arms, nestling into the crook of our elbows, resting her head gently, and leaning into cheek and head rubs. Indi was found running loose and brought to the shelter in a crate. The counselor described her as “very sweet” during her intake, and said she quickly loosened up when she got out of the crate, and gave staff members hugs when they patted their laps. She greets volunteers and staff softly in her kennel, is comforted when people speak sweetly to her, and leans into you for affection, soliciting more when you stop. Indi is undeniably shy, and will need a gentle home and a slow approach while she gains confidence. At the shelter she was introduced to a new dog and she greeted and scurried away. Indi is available to a level 2 home and would do best without small children who may intimidate her. She is waiting to meet you at Brooklyn ACC! Indi’s ID is #145734.
