It's Stoic Sunday again, and Marcus asked us to share his story with everyone. From a neglected breeding dog, to being rescued with the help of Finding Shelter Animal Rescue, his journey with Sedona Shepherd and his adoption to his forever home. Our philosopher-dog has taught us to enjoy the moments we have together.

A story of perseverance and the joy of living in the moment. Marcus Aurelius, our Stoic Shepherd. Saved by Sedona Shepherd located in New Jersey.

Introducing Wesley and Tara, a friendly bonded pair who find themselves looking for a forever home because their dad unexpectedly passed away. Wesley, male age 7, and Tara, female age 10 are well socialized, been around kids and LOVE to be around people. They are currently part of our Owner Referral program so they are still living with their family but time is running out for them. Let’s help Wesley and Tara with their next journey in life and let’s make them Sedona’s 14th bonded pair to be adopted. Click the link below for more pictures that show off their good looks and for a short and sweet video. LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN! 💜🐾

Thank you Robert Cabral and to everyone out there spreading the stories of seniors with still so much life and love to give.

I’ve said it a million times and I’ll say it again…. !

At 14+ Goofy is still the highlight of my day. We’ve been through so much together. A look into his eyes is a journey back through 14 years of my life. Words can’t express what this dog means to me.

Young puppies are awesome because they are on the road to becoming old dogs and that makes it worth the journey. Puppies always like you, but to win the heart of an old dog is monumental.

Sire, age 7, visited Dr. Franz and our friends at Fanwood Animal Hospital for long overdue check up. He is being treated for allergies, dry eye and some skin issues that have not been previously treated. As always, Sedona stands by our dogs and makes sure they receive the proper care. We are looking for a foster family to help us provide a home environment while we take care of his medical needs. Could that be with you? This big fella is well socialized and loves people of all ages so he would do well in just about any home. (Sire enjoys the company of other dogs but a cat test would need to be done to see if he could live with cats.).

If you’re interested in Sire, we suggest submitting your application sooner than later; this boy will be scooped up quickly! https://www.sedonashepherd.com/available-dogs-list/sire

SIRE HAS ARRIVED! This big guy is an owner surrender and is now an official Sedona dog. Based on his temperament and how social Sire is he will not be with us for very long. He hasn’t seen a vet in quite some time so he is on his way to see our friends at Fanwood Vet. Stay tuned for updates on this handsome fella.

WHY SENIOR DOGS MAKE THE BEST RESCUE DOGS

Senior Dogs are Super-Loving - Senior dogs inherently know they are getting a second chance. They will shower you with love, affection and devotion. Nothing matches the gratitude a senior dog shows his or her new best friend.

Seniors Dogs Settle In Quickly - Unlike puppies or younger dogs, a senior dog will settle into a new home and new routine quickly and know how to get along with a new pack.

Senior Dogs Enjoy The Easy Living Lifestyle - A senior dog knows how to pace herself. She still enjoys a fine walk but does not need to go for a jog or burn off tons of energy. When you just want to hang out, she is ready to do that as well.

Senior Dogs Know "The Ropes" - Your floors, shoes and furniture will thank you for adopting a senior pooch! Older dogs are more likely to already be house trained—and even if they’re not, they have the physical and mental abilities to pick it up really fast (unlike puppies). With their teething years far behind them, seniors also are much less likely to be destructive chewers.

Be A Hero - At shelters, older dogs are often the last to be adopted and the first to be euthanized. Saving an animal’s life offers an unparalleled emotional return on your investment, and you’ll feel the rewards every day you spend together.

It is with sadness that we announce the passing away of Jack, one of our permanent dogs at Sedona Shepherd. Jack came to us back in January 2022. Jack could be a very affectionate dog but he also had trauma prior to coming to Sedona Shepherd and he had a limited circle of trust. For everyone's safety, he was not eligible for adoption, but he received love from those that spent the past 2 plus years taking care of him everyday. Our primary goal is to find a home for every dog that comes through our program. Sometimes that doesn't happen for a dog like Jack. However, we made sure that his time with us was always one of enrichment and love.

JUNE IS NATIONAL FOSTER A PET MONTH. Hoagie is lucky. Not all dogs are. Hoagie came to Sedona from a crowded shelter and went right into a foster home where he is now thriving. You, too, can help a dog like Hoagie. The more foster homes we have, the more adult and senior German Shepherds we can help. (Ok, let’s add Husky’s to our list too!) We need YOUR help! Dogs like Hoagie need your help. Please consider fostering or, if you can’t foster, then share this post with your friends.

Sedona provides:
✅ All expenses, including medical.
✅ Supplies. Food, collar and leash, crates, medicine and preventatives
✅ Support. Our volunteers are there to help every step of the way.

Foster homes provide:
✅ A safe and caring environment. 🏡
✅ Love. Meals. Fun! 🎾
✅ Transportation to vet visits, if needed. 🚗

How long is a foster home needed:
3 weeks to 3 months. There are times we need a foster home for a few weeks while a dog recovers from a spay/neuter or some type of medical procedure and there are dogs that need more time in a home before being adopted out to their new family. Being in a home while in our program allows us to get to know the dog and to prepare him/her for their next journey.

Can I adopt my foster dog?
Absolutely. Foster failures are always welcome and so are foster successes!

Fostering is a win win situation. You are helping a dog in need AND you are allowing Sedona to bring more dogs into the program by freeing up space.

To apply to become a Sedona foster, visit the website. Our team will process your application and answer any questions you may have along the way.

Sedona Shepherd Special Situation - Special Edition

Thanks to the responses to our 6 days of special situations. We have a +1 to add. We’d love to see this happy, healthy and fun shepherd mix find his forever home. Oreo has a lot of shepherd in him and a few other flavors. He is a big boy with a big heart. And yes, Oreo, you passed your test. Oreo is available for adoption through AHS-Newark Branch. He is playful with other dogs and just an all-around cool dog. Let’s get this boy adopted directly from the shelter by sharing his story.

Today is National Rescue Dog Day! Of course we can share Sedona dogs looking for a home but today is not just about our dogs, it’s about the countless number of dogs in rescues around the country looking for a forever home. Rescue dogs overcome incredible obstacles and are incredibly resilient. They make wonderful family pets and provide companionship and comfort to people who need it.

Rescue dogs are a symbol of love and loyalty. They shower their humans with unconditional love and devotion, and it's hard to imagine a more loyal companion.

Let’s take this opportunity to spread the word about and encourage others to consider adopting a rescue dog. Whether you're looking for a new furry friend or simply want to make a difference in your community, adopting a rescue dog is a wonderful way to do so. Let's celebrate these incredible animals and give them the love and homes they deserve!

We’d love to hear about your rescue dog in the comments.
