After an unimaginable week, this photo is a reminder of why we do this work. 💛

Over 100 dogs were found living in heartbreaking conditions in a Brooklyn home. Many were sick, scared, and covered in filth. It’s a scene no one should have to witness, and yet our staff showed up, day after day, to carry them to safety.

Thanks to their unwavering compassion and the incredible support of our rescue partners 68 dogs have already left for loving homes and safe havens.

Our team has faced the unthinkable, but they’ve never stopped fighting for these dogs. We are so proud. We are so grateful. And we are holding on to hope.

We also get so much hope from everyone in the online community. Your words of encouragement are seen, read and shared with staff. They mean everything.

Animal welfare is complicated. There will always be those who just can't grasp what it takes to save thousands of animals year after year. We choose to focus on the voices that lift us up, the ones who care, support, and take action. Thank you to those of you who have chosen to be part of that light. We see you and we thank you.

Please also support the rescues who have stepped up immediately to help in this case, including:of.dc

🐾 COMMUNITY IN ACTION 🐾

In the face of heartbreak, the rescue community rose up. We’re in awe of the outpouring of support following the Brooklyn rescue, where more than 80 dogs were found living in unimaginable conditions.

From fellow shelters and rescue groups to fosters, transporters, groomers, and donors, you’ve stepped up for these dogs in ways we’ll never forget. 💛

This is what animal welfare should look like. Collaboration. Compassion. Commitment.

We still need help, but in this moment we are celebrating the power of coming together.

More details to come tomorrow!

🚨 EMERGENCY RESCUE IN BROOKLYN 🚨

ACC has just begun another massive rescue effort, this time in a Brooklyn apartment where we estimate 80+ dogs will need to be removed after their owner was found deceased.

Many are severely matted, most appear sick, and one was actively giving birth as our team arrived. All have been living in unimaginable filth.

Just last month, we completed a large-scale rescue of 40+ Belgian Malinois. Now, we’re facing yet another heartbreaking case.

We know the public reaction is one of disbelief, even anger. It’s hard to comprehend how anyone could live this way, or how animals could be left in such a state. But anger alone won’t help these dogs. What will help is action.

Right now, ACC needs:
🐾 Adopters willing to open their hearts and homes to our existing population of adoptable dogs

🐾 Rescue partners who can pull and care for the dogs from this case — or free up space by helping others already in our care

If you can help:
➡️ Visit nycacc.app to see all adoptable dogs

➡️ New Hope partners, contact us immediately

These dogs have lived through unimaginable neglect. Let’s make sure their next chapter is one of love, comfort, and dignity. ❤️

Mia (ID: 68175) is available for adoption at Manhattan ACC!

https://nycacc.app/ #/browse/68175

My Foster Writes: This girly will hop right into your heart! Everyone in the neighborhood loves to tell her how pretty she is and how great she is as she hops along on our walks. Missing one leg does not slow her down! She loves to go to the park and watch kids play sports. If she could sub in, there is no way her team would lose. If you are looking for a girl who will love you unconditionally, let you sleep in, and show you her adorable belly, then you have found your soul dog!

Rosie (ID: 227195) is available for adoption at Manhattan ACC!

Find her bio at nycacc.app by searching for her name or ID!
https://nycacc.app/ #/browse/227195

My boroughbreaker buddy writes:
Rosie was incredibly sweet and we had an amazing time. She does pull on the leash a lot but was still obedient and never barked or growled at any dogs/people/birds. She does have a lot of energy and we walked for 4.5 hours and she honestly could have kept on going. She would do great with an active person who can take her on runs or long walks.

Looking for a knight in furry armor? Meet Chivalry! This 75lb softie may come on strong, but beneath the tough exterior is a toy-toting cuddlebug in training. He’s still figuring things out, but he’s mastered the art of leaning in for love—and carrying two toys like a gentleman. Ready to help this big boy heal and learn the ropes of home life?

Miss Missy (ID: 196172) is adoptable at Queens ACC!

To learn more about Miss Missy, search for her name or ID on nycacc.app to find her bio.

https://nycacc.app/ #/browse/196172

A Volunteer writes: Miss Missy will woo you with her affection and adorable habit of sitting on cue for treats. She knows "sit" and "paw" and, at just over a year old, has so much potential to learn more in a foster or forever home! An easy walker, even for new volunteers, she loves exploring on long walks and sometimes rolls in the grass. This silly girl has even been spotted snoring in her kennel. As one of the shelter's long-timers, she dreams of a real home to snooze in. For now, Miss Missy should be the only pet.

Every time I walk a dog, I’m reminded how much love is sitting behind each kennel door - just waiting. Some dogs have already been through so much and are still so loving, sweet and curious.

If you’ve been thinking about adopting or fostering, or join me in volunteering - check out . There are so many incredible dogs just waiting to be seen❤️

Also, who’s going to argue with 😅.
