🐾 Lost Pets Deserve to Go Home - Hopes for Change in 2025 🐾
In Atlantic County, seven dogs and 29 cats were seized from a woman facing 43 animal cruelty charges. Instead of following the law and sending the dogs to the local shelter, they were sent directly to a rescue. This bypassed law enforcement protocols for proper documentation to support charges. Concerns about proper medical care were voiced too—one dog had a tumor, and another suffered from a grade 4 heart murmur.

📜 Why This Matters
Shelters play a vital role in documenting lost pets or seized animals, ensuring their medical needs are met, and providing owners a fair chance to find them. When an animal is removed from a cruel situation, proper protocols must be followed, or the person charged my end up with the seized animals – the ones that were abused! By ignoring this process, pets lose their best shot at being reunited with their families.
When a lost pet does not go to the animal shelter, impoundment laws designed to help reunite pets with their families are broken and the pets' chances of being reunited decrease.

🚨 The Harm
This isn’t an isolated case. Lost pets continue to be taken to rescues, especially Kimmy’s Safe Haven Resuce, instead of shelters, leaving owners searching in vain. Rescue organizations that keep lost pets are not helping—they’re hurting pets and their families by blocking the chance for reunification.

🤔 What Needs to Change
Law enforcement, rescues, and the community must follow impoundment laws to protect pets and their families. Rescues can help by pulling shelter dogs to ease overcrowding, not by keeping lost pets. Let’s work together to ensure pets find their way home.

Sadly this evening, a vehicle struck one of our equestrian friends and their horse while they were riding on Pearsons Corner. The driver fled the scene without stopping. We are offering a reward for any information that leads to the identification, arrest, and prosecution of the responsible person.
