Appreciation day!!!!!!! 🦃
Wed before thanksgiving. One of the great days to shoe horses in the endurance community. Was able to work for legends in the sport. Mt Rushnomore Ranch has multiple finishes on Western States 100 Mile Tevis Cup + top tens, managed many endurances rides and overall a huge impact in the endurance family. Had a great time tacking shoes on & planning out the 2024 ride season to keep their horses feet in prime shape to compete. Crater Hill Equestrian wow what a program for beginner - advanced endurance riders. Huge huge presence in the community as they head down the trail with sometimes 25 riders @ 1 time. Their barn horses are athletes from all over the US fit & trained ready to carry their riders 50 -100 miles Appreciate working on the horses at this machine of a barn and it’s wonderful family of clients.
Bear River Mobile Vet of Grassvalley is a rider vet trainer and knowledgeable horsewoman. Appreciate working with them reading X-rays to game planning hoof care for horses to keep them sound and moving forward. Vets many endurance rides around California and has a large heart for giving back to the community.
Happy Turkey day to all and many thanks to everyone that plays a part in our wonderful horses community family to make it what it is today

This is what the white line will look like when a horses founders. Founder is when the bone inside the hoof pulls away from the hoof capsule causing the white line to stretch, accompanied by rings on the outside of the hoof capsule

The hoof capsule is the shape it is… but you can set your shoe wherever you want on the foot to achieve the breakover the horse needs

Before ➡️ After
Yes this horse was overdue understandable
This horses has feet, that have very deep quick so the feet NEVER look short enough when trim down. The ticket to shoeing these type of horses is heel coverage to the bulbs, setting your shoes back and staying up on dressing the front of the hoof wall back

A large separation in the hoof wall needed to be removed up to the connected hoof wall. If not removed in this case the separation would continue to grow. The hoof capsule is always on your side because it continues to regenerate new healthy hoof every day. In about 10 months this horse hoof will be back to normal. Have a good weekend

Keep shoeing simple ✌️ the basics of shoeing are a proper trim & a properly placed shoe!! 99% of horseshoeing can be done without pads, fancy shoes, grinding, polish and all other gimmicks out there. Balance and shoe placement is the ticket to simple happy hoofs

Yes horses can have to much heel. Notice how much more relaxed & balanced the foot looks after having its heels lowered. Look at the bone column…..

So at Brain Ranch Horseshoeing our question to you is… What makes digging out cow hoof abscesses sooo much more interesting than watching us trimming horse hoofs…? You must just like the grossness of it with the suspense and the climax….! Lol

Using a t-square during your trim is a guaranteed way to balance the hoof

The pastern angle (the bone column) & the hoof capsule go hand-in-hand. If one is out of balance, the other one will be out of balance. In the left picture do you notice how everything looks healthy and inline
compared to the right picture how everything looks stressed and uncomfortable. This plays a part in how your horse feels and travels
09/30/2023
You better have enough heel coverage or you’re foots gonna fall apart…….. the more heel coverage you have less pulled shoes guaranteed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
