We invite your suggestions for experiences or attractions at our open house. Our horses are only handled on the ground, and visitor safety is paramount. Do you know the history of Mustangs? What does it take to gentle one?

Good morning, I’d like to introduce myself. I’m the owner of Steady Mind Stables LLC. We are located in Newfield. Our mission is to help people learn life skills with the help of our horses. Horses are amazing and can show us how to manage a multitude of things that come up in our day-to-day lives. These include but are not limited to, anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, boundary setting and respecting, emotional regulation, empathy, time management, problem solving, and so many more skills.

We do all the work from the ground, at the pace you feel comfortable with. This is not a traditional horseback riding lesson program. While you learn horsemanship skills. This is a program done from the ground.

Our herd of equine assistants consists of 3 mustangs, 2 quarter horses, a draft, and donkeys. We will help you find a equine that will best complement your needs. This is a hands-on experience.

This is offered to everyone over the age of 10. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about setting up an assessment. Please call me Beth at 607-220-4255. I’d love to share what horses can teach you.

Pat them. Pat them pat them pat them. If your horse even thinks about thinking about how to think about the thing you want him to think about, PAT HIM. Praise every right thing, all of the time.

DO NOT ‘make the right thing easy and make the wrong thing hard’.

JUST MAKE THE RIGHT THING EASY, and forget about any botched efforts or wrong answers. Don’t take it personally if the horse doesn’t get it right first time. He doesn’t speak your language. He doesn’t understand your ambitions. He doesn’t understand conflict through the lens of human interpretation. He just knows how to horse, yet he is willing to learn, adapt and change for YOU. Make sure you do the same for HIM.

Horses are the only animal on the planet willing to try for us and to give us everything they have, for absolutely no return for themselves whatsoever.

If you do not foster the horse’s desire to try, you will lose this most precious gift.

We welcomed our very first foal late last night. Mama in true mustang fashion waited for us to go to bed. And gave very little clue she was going to foal. What a nice surprise to wake up to this morning. Welcome sweet Miss Cara. ❤️ Velvet is a excellent mother. I suspect Juniper will be close behind.

Willow she will walk through fire and smoke if I ask. I'm not sure how I got so lucky. It blows my mind every time I ask her to do something that is a mental or physical challenge for her. And she does it.
Horses have no depth perception; smoke looks solid, bubbles look solid, and fire is an unstable surface. It goes against every instinct she has to do some of the things I ask. But she does it anyway. And it's not by force. It's by trust. I've taught her she can trust me. She has learned I won't ask her to do anything that hurts her; I've never caused her pain; I make sure she has everything she needs. I have brought her from untrusting and unhandled to this beautifully trusting mare who takes care of me just as I take care of her.

Nova ❤️ my second challenge Mustang. This beautiful little mare continued to teach me about myself and how vital energy and intent are when working with horses. I worked hard to gain her trust. And once she knew I wouldn’t hurt her. After the Devil's Garden Mustang challenge in September, I gave her the winter off. We had worked hard getting ready for the challenge, and she needed the time to be a horse. Now that spring is here, we will be getting back to work. I’m excited to see where we can go.

Our adorable little Dream. She was the first Mustang I did a public challenge with. She is sweet and so kind. I had the tag off the day after we brought her home. And it was all just as easy after that. We took 3rd place In the challenge. I am incredibly proud of that. I had no idea what to expect. Or really, what I was doing. She made me look better than I thought I should have. She opened up my confidence and helped me find a place where I found peace. Now, she is learning to ride and helping my youngest daughter find her confidence. She is a short, sassy, but kind mare. I'm so glad we decided to keep her around. The first Mustang, I had the privilege of removing her tag. My Dream

The Mustang mare that started it all. This is Willow. She came to us in late Summer of 2022. Her previous home didn't work out. She told us she didn't retain anything and was a bit crazy. Others told me I wouldn't have a bond for two years. They looked at me like I was crazy. For taking a nine-year-old Mustang.

Willow was terrified of my hand movement or anything that looked or felt threatening. She was the first Mustang I had decided to train. I took it slow and let her tell me what she was ready for. I have never learned more from a horse. She was and still is the ultimate teacher.

Today, she is my all-time horse. The horse I can trust to be steady and true. This last fall, we traveled to Kentucky for an extreme trail ride experience. And she made me so incredibly proud. She never missed a step, kept us both safe, and went everywhere I asked her. The trust we have in each other grew enormously on that trip. She is now helping me train more Mustangs. And is giving my timid daughter lessons and helping to build her confidence back up.

This little mare is a once-in-a-lifetime horse. And she opened my eyes to how amazing Mustangs are because Willow showed me the way. We are now focusing on helping Mustangs out of holding and into homes.

Many times, the older mustangs are passed over and not adopted. We decided this year to take on two mares: 1 is 16, and the other is 12. They will both be looking for homes when I have their training completed. They are kind and curious. And they come from the same HMA as Willow.

The significance of this moment. It brought me to tears. Velvet has been feral for 16 years. She was only caught in October, 5 months later, after many days of not trusting me. She gave me the ultimate sign of trust. She didn't just lay down. She slept. I was dozing off myself just as she lay down about 5 feet away from me. I have not had that first touch yet. This moment is even more meaningful. ❤️

We have settled on names for these two lovely Mares. The dark bay, previous number 9019, will be called Velvet. The Bay roan mare, previously known as number 8971, will now be called Juniper.

As you can see, Velvet is in foal. It doesn't look like she has much time left. And Juniper is starting to show more and more. We have watched both foals kick and move around. We are very excited to welcome these babies. And give them a great start.

Don't forget to like, follow, and share! We will continue to post updates. And keep you all updated when the babies arrive.

This week, we are sharing C**t! He's an almost 4-year-old Quarter Horse that we have had since he was a 6-month-old with a belly full of worms and skin and bones. C**t is the sweetest gelding and has grown into a beautiful horse. He's pushing 15 hands. And is still growing. I've started him under saddle lightly. And he knows how to lay down on cue. He's an in-your-pocket kind of horse. C**t will be part of our equine-assisted learning sessions.

Starting this week, we will introduce our herd, starting with our oldest member, Dakota. We believe Dakota is around 20-25 years old. He is a Quarter Horse gelding. We have had him since 2020. He taught my daughter Sophia how to ride. He will be assisting us in our equine-assisted learning sessions. Dakota is a wise horse that has a lot of life experience.

Welcome to the new page! We are starting to move in the right direction! We are a small family-run horse barn. This spring, we will have our grand opening weekend. With some fun activities. And a meet and greet with the horses in our program.

Here at Steady Mind Stables, we believe everyone can learn from horses. They are excellent teachers about forgiveness, acceptance, boundaries, and being present and authentic to one’s self. They are incredibly intuitive and can read our body language and intentions. And give some incredible feedback. We will always make sure everyone feels safe while learning from our horses.

I have found incredible healing working with our horses. And it’s my passion to share this with you. We will be offering private sessions, group sessions, and clinics. Once we are up and running, we can travel to other barns with the help of the horses living there.

Mustangs are the most interesting and intelligent horses I have ever worked with. We currently have 3 in our herd. And I will be offering gentling and training for unhandled mustangs right here at Steady Mind Stables. These horses are unique and have so much to offer. I’m very excited to help you build a bond with these incredible horses.

We’ll be posting weekly updates and introducing our family and herd. Stay tuned for updates. Thank you all for the support and opportunity to share our passion.
