An Old Cowboy's Advice

* Keep your fences horse-high, pig-tight & bull-strong.
* Keep skunks & bankers & lawyers at a distance.
* Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.
* A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.
* Words that soak into your ears are whispered...not yelled.
* Meanness don't jes' happen overnight.
* Forgive your enemies. It messes up their heads.
* Don't corner something that would normally run from you.
* It doesn't take a very big person to carry a grudge.
* You cannot unsay a cruel word.
* Every path has a few puddles.
* When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.
* The best sermons are lived, not preached.
* Most of the stuff people worry about is never gonna happen anyway.
* Don't judge folks by their relatives.
* Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
* Don't interfere with somethin' that ain't botherin' you none.
* Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.
* Sometimes you get, & sometimes you get got.
* Don't fix it if it ain't broke.
* Always drink upstream from the herd.
* Good judgment comes from experience, & a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
* If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around.

BE READY

In light of ongoing political events and the ever- present potential for a variety of natural disasters, it would be wise to do the following soon:

1) Lay in several weeks worth of food, drinking water and medical supplies
2) Check your propane supply and any extra gasoline you have stored
3) Keep your vehicles gassed up as much as possible
4) Ensure your generator is operational
5) Have a water filter or treatment pills to treat water from the lake or other source
6) Confirm any self defense devices are operational and ready
7) Have at least a cord of firewood standing by
😎 Have rechargeable flashlights and solar yard lights for indoor lighting
9) Plan for means to boil water and cook, ie propane grill or camp stove
10) Have a metal garbage can with lid to protect electronic devices from an EMP or coronal mass ejection (CME).
11) Provide for a source of heat such as a propane heater, fireplace or wood stove
12) Have several mylar "space blankets" for additional warmth
13) Buy a small portable toilet ( less than $100)

Also, if a catastrophic event occurs which takes the electric grid down (and the internet), immediately:

1) Fill your bathtub up with water
2) Gas your vehicles
3) Buy extra carbohydrates (rice, pasta, potatoes) before grocery stores close
4) Listen to a radio for news of the event (probably AM or shortwave)

I have been told that our water system does not have backup generators and that the storage tanks can gravity feed the houses but will only last for about 3 days in summer and a week in winter.

There is much more to emergency preparation, but I think these are the high points to get started with. Specifics can vary depending on the nature and severity of the event.

Just when I thought my day couldn't get any better, I ended up in the ER with an infected hornet bite and a bad case of cellulitis! Yay me, right? On the bright side, I get to take antibiotics every 6 hours and apply not one, but TWO different creams! Oh, and let's not forget the OTC Benadryl and alternating between ibuprofen and acetaminophen for pain. Did I mention I have to carry Epi pens with me now? Talk about making a fashion statement! All of this for the low, low price of $270 for two pens.

Got bit by a hornet I think yesterday. I’m allergic to bees but have never had a reaction like this. That brownish center and about two inches all around it is all like a hard muscle under the skin. Looks weird and hurts like a bitch! Little itchy around d the red area where the skin is normal. Any thoughts friends?
