NACC will be closed from Monday December 23rd through Wednesday December 25th. We'll be back to our regular hours on Thursday December 26th. Don't worry, the animals will not be alone during the holiday, there will be a skeleton crew of staff at the shelter tending to all of our furry friend's needs.

During our closed days please reunite animals when you find them, so they can be home with their families. Animal Control will only be running for emergencies, so if you are in need of emergency Animal Control assistance, call NPD Dispatch at 757-441-5610

Gloria had the most magical day meeting Santa when he stopped by our shelter! 🎅❤️ She greeted him with tail-wags and kisses, soaking up every moment of love and attention before Santa had to return to the North Pole.

This month, Gloria is Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center’s Shelter Star and 𝘍𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘕𝘈𝘊𝘊 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘦𝘦!

Gloria is a spirited 2-year-old mix who arrived at the shelter in November as a stray. She’s a "ball🎾" of energy—literally—and her favorite toy is a tennis ball! Gloria is searching for a home where she can enjoy long walks, games of fetch, and endless belly rubs.

Her excitement meeting Santa showed just how ready she is to share her joy and love with a family of her own. Could Gloria be the perfect fit for your home? 🐾✨

7-month-old Shepherd mix puppy, CHAMP, had a blast being the with the crew from Norfolk Fire-Rescue Station 6! (714 Pembroke Ave) 🐶🐾🚒
Champ is young, impressionable, active, and so incredibly sweet! You can normally see him bouncing all over his kennel trying to get your attention, but staff said he immediately settled right down in her car for the trip.
After making friends with his new first responder pals, he stopped for a pup-cup from Starbucks (which he was very polite about eating) before he headed back to the shelter.
Champ is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. Ready to adopt? ✨ Adoption Hours are 1:30 to 6:00 pm every day (except closed on Wednesdays)

Macy had a magical night out at Barks and Bulbs! 🎄✨ Friends of Norfolk Animal Care sponsored a trip to the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, where Macy, a sweet 2-year-old brindle pitbull that is available for adoption at Norfolk Animal Care Center, got to see the festive lights.

She enjoyed cookies, a pup cup from the hot cocoa stand, and met plenty of new friends along the way. Staff shared, “Macy had so much fun, and her personality really shined! She’s great on a leash, loves meeting people, and seems eager to make dog friends too.”

Wow we love our adopters! Christa and Deldrick adopted a puppy from us last year and wanted to give back some of the love they have received in that time. They came by on Friday evening and this awesome couple made pup cups for every dog in the shelter, brought licky treats for the kitties, and special pig ears and a toy for the longest resident dogs. We cannot thanks Christa and Deldrick enough for showing such kindness to our animals. It’s people like you that make our days so special 🖤

We are ready for our pet pantry stop TODAY Saturday 12/13/24 from 12-2pm at the Mary D. Pretlow Library at 111 West Ocean View Avenue in Norfolk, VA. Because we know that pets are a part of the family, we are dedicated to providing temporary assistance to pet owners facing hardship by helping to keep their pets in their home. Pet owners facing hardship and financial challenges may have to make a hard choice between feeding their families or feeding their pet. Some owners faced with this difficult decision are forced to give up their animal companions. Our goal is to make it possible for pets to stay in a loving home together by providing temporary food assistance. Please keep in mind that we strive to bring enough food for everyone that attends, however at times we may run out early. In that case, NACC staff will update the Norfolk Animal Care Center's Facebook & Instagram () and leave the location early.
