🐍✨ Happy World Snake Day! ✨🐍

These incredible creatures are nature's masters of adaptation - from the tiniest thread snake to the mighty python. Snakes play crucial roles in our ecosystems, keeping rodent populations in check and maintaining the delicate balance of nature.

Let's appreciate these fascinating, often misunderstood animals and the important work they do in our world. Whether they're gracefully gliding through grass or basking in the sun, snakes deserve our respect and protection.

This is a speckled kingsnake (Lampropeltis holbrooki), much like the very first snake that I had as an eight-year-old. Happy World Snake Day from Bean Farm. 🙂

‼️Annual Reminder to Check Your Heat Tape‼️

Using heat tape to warm your reptile’s enclosure can be a cost-efficient and effective method when regulated with a proper thermostat, and it’s important to plan for regular safety checks and replacements.

Reptile keepers can avoid costly or harmful risks by regularly inspecting their heat tape set up.

Virgin cork bark adds a beautiful, natural forest look to any animal habitat—and it's as functional as it is attractive. Whether you're creating a cozy hideout or a vertical climbing surface, this versatile material is a favorite among reptile, amphibian, and invertebrate keepers.

Virgin cork bark can be used for terrariums and reptile habitats; cork tubes are ideal for frogs, reptiles, snakes, lizards and other animals as a safe place to hide, float and climb.

Since our beloved reptile and amphibian friends (aka herpetofauna, or “herps”) don’t come with their own, internal thermostat, it’s important to make sure your enclosure is set up with the necessary equipment to help your pet regulate its body heat.

Heat control isn’t simply for comfort—our cold-blooded herps use heat for biological processes like digestion, respiration, reproduction, and maintaining their immune response to defend against infection.

Brumation is a natural period of dormancy for many reptiles—sort of like hibernation for mammals. During this time, reptiles slow down significantly, eating little to nothing and reducing their activity levels. As the temperatures rise and daylight increases, your reptile will begin to “wake up” and return to their normal routines. One of the most important parts of this transition is safely reintroducing heat.
