Once again Fi stepped up to the plate today at the equine affaire. The arena was tiny, the footing was hard, and the bleachers were at maximum capacity. While some of the others struggled in the atmosphere, Fi was cool as a cucumber for our lesson with Phillip Dutton. She got a little tired at the end but what a good sport she is and boy has she earned a vacation. Thanks Dana for the video!!
Waredaca cross country day!
Clear across the board on endurance day! Thanks Darrah for the video
GLOW UP. Fi is feeling fit and ready to take on her first long format. I didn’t really want to take all her hair off but with the forecast for 80° I had to! Thank you BUCKEYE Nutrition for that shine
Seakyr!
Having my horse come toward me for mounting is one of the most beneficial things I’ve learned on this whole ground work adventure. Love that I’ve been able to get help starting his lady correctly!!
Whew- weekend horsey fun!
What a weekend! Ty went hunting again yesterday and we had a nice cracking day then Belle had a lesson with Tim Bourke where we both came away with some valuable lessons. Today the B-Team (Briggs and Belle) braved the mud for a fabulous turn around the old Chatham hunter pace. This was a great venue for Belle to sort out the galloping and jumping thing- which she did with ease! Now a nap is in order.
Libelle at GMHA
We didn’t quite get the result we wanted this weekend at GMHA but it was a great learning experience all around. Dressage day was cold and windy which resulted in a little bit of a spicy mare but we had some really lovely moments. She show jumped like an absolute power house and loved that but got a little overwhelmed with all there was to look at on XC. Ditch, bank, and water all no issue but all she needs is a bit more confidence jumping at a faster pace. Overall it was a tough first show as an away show but belle was super well behaved and dealt very well! Proud of her!
Belle had an incredible XC school today, this mare is as bold and brave as she is beautiful and flashy. No doubt in my mind that she’s going to be too 5 everywhere she goes
What a weekend. There’s something special about going to a horse trials where I’ll be able to track my progress each year, hopefully until the point we’re galloping through those blue numbers. We had a blast at Millbrook Horse Trials and Fi was a star- she’s coming into her own at an astounding pace.
I mean, who doesn’t like a red sports car 🏎️. This gal is gonna be fun
Sometimes you have a good gut feeling about a horse and I definitely did about this mare! This is only G’s second time jumping and she’s absolutely so rideable and happy to do it. Her owner’s decision to spend two years post track focusing on flatwork and taking things slow paid off in dividends for this girl.
Fi felt like a powerhouse on her first real XC school today. A few baby moments to remind us that she is in fact 4 but all the big questions were no fuss at all. Now, she gets a little break after her jumping boot camp this week!
One step closer to getting this little lady to a horse trials! Fi continues to go fast by going slow, completing the “Tadpole” division with her usual easygoing aplomb. Things are really falling into place for her!
Let your baby horses go for a run!
Of course young horses have to be worked with more caution due to their growing bones but how can we expect a baby of any species to behave without a little play?
I really think it's crucial for youngsters to go for a little gallop, especially when they've had a few days off- it helps them learn their bodies while getting the sillies out. Now, they have to be respectful just like any training, but why have a fight trying to do a flat session when you both can have a little fun? So, bridge your reins, get in a little defensive position in case of a little spiciness 🌶 and go for a romp!
