Twas the night before Christmas and all through the farm
A few creatures were stirring, but causing no harm
In the pasture field, all of the geldings and mares
Were hoping a bale of hay soon would be there
The bunnies were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of lettuce leaves danced in their heads
And Ted in his sweatshirt and I in my cap
Had just settled down for an afternoon nap
When out in the ring there arose such a clatter
We sprang from our bed to see what was the matter
Away to the window we flew like a flash
Tore open shutters and threw up the sash
When what to our wondering eyes should appear
But a ring full of horses we hold so dear
With all three instructors so lively and loud
Teaching a lesson to quite a big crowd
“On Guiness! On Maple! On Chester and Dottie
On Peabody! Poncho! Now don’t you be naughty!
Stay on the rail, now jump over the wall!
Walk away, trot away, now canter all!”
“Watch your diagonal, get the right lead!”
They yelled at the students upon each great steed
“Heels down and close fingers! And straighten your backs!
And after all that, don’t forget to RELAX!”
And then in a twinkling we heard something new:
“Open the gate! Trail ride coming through!”
Then Duncan and Queenie and Smokey and Blaze
Led by Tammy, instructing in various ways
Headed out on the trail with riders in tow
Making hoofprints so deep in the new fallen snow
Then we saw Santa Claus flying away
With Teddy and Billy hooked up to his sleigh
“Merry Christmas!” he yelled, “but I gotta get out
Of Fairwinds, the craziest stop on my route!”
Merry Christmas to all from Fairwinds Farm!
