THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICPATED IN OUR HALLO'AWAIIAN DOOK'ALUAU.
The Ferret Hula Contest was the highlight of our event, as well as the Tiki Tunnel Races.
If you missed it, well, you were either invited, sent the link, or had multiple opportunities to see it advertised on Facebook both on my personal page and the Angel Ferret Shelter page.
It was suggested by several people that we should have an event later in the day, on more of an adult type of gathering, to which I obliged - and those folks didn't even attend.
This event was the most epic - as everyone should know by now, for over 10 years now I have been offering events that are not just an opportunity for ferrets to have fun, but for our ferret friends to get together and have a wonderful time. In this day of the hustle and bustle of working tiring jobs, taking care of families and our every day struggles, it's nice to be able to kick back and have fun - my entertainment background can't be contained and I enjoy making everyone laugh and have a good time. My events are a great way for our ferret friends (who are also family) to come together to have a great time and raise funds for the shelter, the latter which has often fallen short.
Unfortunately if you had missed this event, this was the last "hoorah" if you will. There will be no more events.
As much as I enjoy putting events together and seeing all the happy ferrets and all our friends both new and old, I have personal reasons for hanging up the party hat for the time being. I don't know what the future holds for me now, but rest assured we will still be caring for the ferrets in need.
Please keep an eye on the shelter page! If you missed the Dook'aluau you obviously aren't keeping up!
The road to recovery for our little Luna Bean will be long and arduous, but it has been and will be a very interesting and educational journey.
The first order of business was to get her weight up, which she gladly devoured my "Fat Tony Diet" soupy. The next step was to give physical therapy to regain muscle strength in her back legs. She exhibited an inability to control her bathroom habits, but within the first week of therapy she seemed to be able to gain control of her accidents which led me to believe she needed to gain strength and control in more than just her legs. With a lot of effort on both our parts, she started to show some muscle resistance in her legs, and I realized that she did not arch her back like a "normal" ferret, so I began to stretch her back to help strengthen her back muscles. Within a few days she started swishing her tail around which seemed kind of odd...so I decided to massage her spine at the base of her tail, and this was the end result! She moves her legs forward in a walking motion for the first time! She still insists on dragging her legs behind her when left to walk on her own, but the difference between when she first arrived to now is incredible! She is a very determined ferret. She looks forward to her morning therapy and soupy and gives thankful kisses even though it is tiring and exhausting work.
GO LUNA BEAN!
UPDATE ON LUNA BEAN
Gaining strength in her legs and practicing for Dancing with the Stars...not quite there YET but a great start! Luna looks forward to her physical therapy sessions. She has gained control of her bladder and happily gives thank you kisses during her practice walks. This gal will be chasing her sisters in no time!
GO LUNA BEAN!
Luna Bean gets her physical therapy session this morning and was taking baby steps! She wore herself out with all the exercises but she is working hard! Doesn't look like much but this is amazing. Go little Luna Bean!
