We don't recommend feeding your pet candy, but we do encourage our clients to bring their pet's favorite, pet-safe treats when they come into the clinic for an appointment. Not only are treats a great motivator for your pet to behave well, but treats also help them to feel calm, safe, and sometimes even excited and happy during their examination or procedures! Just a tip: bring your furry friend on an empty stomach (unless advised otherwise by your veterinarian) as this will make treats an even bigger reward.
If you’d like to make an appointment, call our office or check out our website: https://www.mvvhc.com/index.html

We understand wanting to give your pet treats just for being adorable; however, they can lose their motivational effect when given too often. According to the Fear Free Foundation, “treats should only make up about 10% of your pet’s daily nutritional intake.”
Here are some Fear Free facts about treats and when and where they are most beneficial to train your pets!
Use treats to motivate your pet to learn something new!
Treats can be given to reinforce desirable behaviors rather than just any old time. (For example, wait until the pet is giving you eye contact, sitting, lying down, resting quietly, etc.)
Consider using higher value treats for more stressful situations - encourage your pet to be brave by rewarding calm behavior.

Foxtails, Grass Awns, Mean Seeds, Timothy, Cheatgrass, June Grass, Downy Brome - it’s all the same kind of danger for our curious furry friends on their adventures! Once this plant dries out and drops its seeds, they can cling to your pet’s hair and borough into their skin. All it takes is one trot through the field for your cat or dog to be covered in them!
Foxtails can enter the body through your pets ears, feet, and respiratory tract and can cause infection. Not only that, but they can be pretty painful! Removal of foxtails after they’ve dug into the skin often requires surgery, so catch them quickly by brushing your pet after every walk and checking their ears and toes. You can also consider using booties for their paws or using a field guard face net!
