Today is Ranger’s 2nd gotcha day and 2 1/2 years since I lost Buster. There are no words for how loved Ranger is and the amount of learning and growth we’ve accomplished together over the last two years amazes me. He came to me right when I needed him most ❤️ I’m confident Buster requested some of his molecules go to Ranger

🐾 time 😴

Sasha has an intense and undying hatred of getting her nails clipped. This afternoon we had a desensitization session with a new nail grinder that is significantly quieter than a Dremel.

At the end of the ~20 minute session she was offering her paw and allowing me to hold it for more than a couple seconds while the grinder was on the floor a couple feet away. This is a huge improvement for her - she normally runs off to another room when I cut or grind Juneau’s nails.

It’s a very slow process, but eventually we’ll get there. ❤️

Today’s are stuffed with wolf run plus grind.

Why Raw?

We have a female blue Doberman, Sasha (also affectionately known as Stink Stink, Princess Sasha Soft Paws, and Booberton) that recently turned seven. Our journey to a raw diet can be primarily attributed to her, as she seems to have really lost the genetic lottery and inherited basically every common health problem seen in both color dilutes and Doberman Pinschers.

Over the first few years with Sasha we tried a variety of kibbles – Orijen, Acana, Merrick, Canidae – all of their limited ingredient options, a wide array of medicated shampoos, sprays, ointments, allergy medications, and any other option we found.

Nothing seemed to help. Sasha was itchy, mostly bald, and fighting constantly with folliculitis, red, irritated paws, and dry, scaly, skin.

By this time, a little German Shepherd pup had joined our pack – Juneau. Very early on we started seeing yeast issues with her and encountered a similar lack of results in finding her some relief.

I started searching for more options. Something different.

I eventually stumbled upon Kimberly Gauthier’s blog – Keep the Tail Wagging – and began reading everything I could find about raw diets and the experiences people had with their dogs.

The stories of improvements people were seeing in dogs with serious allergies were compelling enough that I decided we had to try it.

Everything else had failed, so at the very least we didn’t really have anything to lose.

This specific is Juneau’s absolute favorite. It must be the purple one - the other colors of the same ball are somehow different and not as good. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Obviously, I bought a ton of them after realizing this because she’s not exactly gentle on her toys and we need ready to go when she kills it.
