If you have a service dog and want to bring her/him with you to visit Puerto Rico here’s a couple of tips.

1-Have plenty of water with you, since you’ll probably be spending a lot of time outdoors. The heat here hits different.

2- Buy booties for your service dog, the sand at the beach gets really hot and of course concrete and asphalt are blazing hot.

3- Bring a copy of the service dog’s medical and vaccine record just in case you need it. There are plenty of Emergency Vet Clinics around.

4- Bring a moisturizer/sunblock cream for their pads and nose, they can get dry in the heat and sun

5- Don’t worry about access to restaurants and other places with your service dog. I had no issues bringing my dog in restaurants, beaches, rivers, and tourist locations. PR is very accommodating to service dogs (the same federal laws regarding service dogs apply in PR). No issues at the rental car place either.

6- You can find Petsmart and other pet stores in PR with pretty much all you can find in the states. Buy your food here if you don’t want to carry it or bring it from home. It might be a little bit more expensive if you buy it in PR.

#9 Difficulty breathing
Increased respiratory effort typically occurs when the lungs or airway is compromised. This can occur due to trauma, allergic reactions, heart failure, toxins, infectious agents, cancer, or air leakage. Any difficulty breathing should be considered a serious problem, requiring immediate evaluation by a veterinarian. Often radiographs are necessary to evaluate the lungs and airways.

#10 Pain
Pain can occur in pets for several reasons and can be displayed in various ways. Pacing, agitation, restlessness, panting, rapid heart rate, or even aggression, are all symptoms of possible pain. Spinal pain can often be misinterpreted as abdominal pain and vice versa. Contact a veterinarian if your pet is acting strangely and you suspect pain.

Pet First Aid is the immediate care given to a pet who is injured or ill. Knowing the skills and techniques of pet first aid can mean the difference between life and death for your pet. This class is perfect for pet owners and Pet Care Professionals. The training is taught by Palm Beach Sit Means Sit Owner, Trainer and Certified Master Pet Tech Instructor, Bob Burnell.
