Homeless & Abandoned Animals
Neglected Animals Still, GG had a glimmer of hope.

One sweltering May morning in 2009, an abandoned but beautiful dog—Gorgeous Gal, or GG as she would come to be known by the millions who love her—was found lying under a majestic old oak tree in Detroit, Michigan. She was three-years old; a mixed breed of American bull dog and Staffordshire terrier, also known as a Pit Bull mix. Somehow, she had made it through three of Detroit’s frigid winters an

d sweltering summers, but was growing sick and losing strength. She deserved a chance, it was her right. Although she was taken to a local shelter, that facility was not committed to the “No-Kill” movement and did not save all healthy and treatable animals. GG’s rescue was an emotional journey of hope, fear, and joy, but not every abandoned animal gets a second chance.

📲🏥😻 Today is Giving Tuesday - All donations to GG's Foundation can help us to continue to answer calls to help the hundreds of animals in need within our communities. In 2023 alone, we spayed, neutered, provided medical care and vaccinated 114 kitties, and helped fund a rescued dog’s hernia surgery. Also recently, Sweetie Pie rescued from the street had to have his right rear leg amputated for health reasons and we funded that so Sweetie Pie can have a better life. Please consider a gift to GG’s Foundation 😻💕

🐶🐾 100 % percent of all donations benefit the animals & any amount is greatly appreciated - Thank you 💗 Please visit ggsjourney.😅

Our Fang, a sweetheart, came to Rose’s Place from a horrific hoarding situation. He came to us with 39 of his friends. Due to Fang’s neglect for more than 10 years, in October of 2021 he required a full mouth extraction!!! Today, he is with me being treated for inflamed gums with meds every 12. Our Fangie is eating well and will be rechecked on 7/20, we will not let him suffer 💔 Please pray that the meds work and we can bring him back to Rose’s Place. 🐾💕😻

September is National Disaster Preparedness Month, and we want to keep your family members—both two-legged and four-legged—safe!

While most disaster preparedness plans focus on protecting your human family, we want to focus on protecting the furry, feathery, and scaly friends in your life.

I am honored and humbled to receive the Best Friend to Cats Award. Thank you!

Michigan Pet Alliance (MPA) proudly announces that Cheryl Phillips, Northville, Michigan, is the recipient of the Best Friend to Cats Award. MPA invites all Michigan pet lovers to join the nonprofit association at www.michiganpet.org to lend their voice.

“This annual award honors a nominated individual (or organization) who goes above and beyond to save, to provide care, to find homes or to advocate for Michigan’s homeless cats,” said Joe Dobesh, MPA CEO. “In this award category, Cheryl was a standout nomination for her dedication to TNVR and community cats.”

Phillips has spent the last 10 years providing trap, neuter, vaccinate, return (TNVR) services to more than 1,150 cats in Michigan. She has been instrumental in helping communities understand how to help community cats.

“I am humbled and honored to be the recipient of the Michigan Pet Alliance Best Friend to Cats Award. It is a labor of love, and it takes a village; together, through TNVR, adoption and humane education, we are making a difference in our communities for our fabulous felines, saving lives and reducing overpopulation,” said Phillips. “I am proud to be a member of MPA, a leader in advocating and making changes to improve the standards of care for our pets.”

In 2016, Phillips became the founder and executive director of GG's Foundation, a nonprofit with the mission to reduce overpopulation through TNVR and to fund spay/neuter, vaccinations, and medical care for homeless, neglected, abandoned and abused community cats and to assist others’ efforts to care for and place these rescued animals in suitable homes or other appropriate environments.

“Education and advocacy are pillars of our mission, to speak with one voice to improve lifesaving and standards of care for our state’s pets,” said Deborah Schutt, MPA chairperson. “Cheryl is one of our members who exemplifies these qualities in support of our mission.”

In May 2021, Phillips was named Humane Hero of the Month by the Humane Society of Macomb. She is also the author of “GG’s Journey: From Lost to Loved,” a book about a rescue dog named GG and how she overcame sickness and breed discrimination to find a loving home.

Cheryl, her husband Patrick Thill and their pampered felines Pepe and Diva Mac “DD” reside in Northville, Michigan.
