Today I cleaned thousands of maggots out of a wound on Gomez. You read that right, I spent hours cleaning a maggot infested wound. 🤢🪰

If you aren’t aware (I wasn’t) fly strike occurs when an animal has an open wound and flies lay eggs that hatch into maggots in that wound. Really nothing kills maggots except boiling water and harmful chemical (which you obviously can’t put on an open wound) so the only way to treat the infestation is to remove every maggot, so that’s what I did! It’s so important to look closely at your poultry for any abrasions, and this is my friendly reminder to you! Don’t make the same mistakes I did and miss a wound before it’s too late!

The good news, Gomez has a clean healing wound wrapped up tight to keep any additional flies away 🖤 I am equally as proud of myself as I am disgusted! 🤣
