Cold and flu season is upon us! Recent news has stated an unknown respiratory illness is also affecting our canines. We are monitoring it closely and will update you all as we know more. There has not been a confirmed case in Washington, however, please keep them home and away from other dogs. If your dog starts showing symptoms, such as coughing, sneezing, or lethargy, please isolate them and find veterinary care.

Veterinarian is encouraging dog owners to be vigilant to keep their animals safe and healthy. There have been no reports of this unknown illness in Washington state as of today, Washington State Veterinarian Dr. Amber Itle said.

We had an absolute blast, hosting the K-Korps Dog 4-H club this past Monday.
Dr. Syring and Dr. Anderson demonstrated laser surgery, a pregnant pup ultrasound, gave excellent education on parasites and health, and the students even participated in suturing up bananas!
It was a laughter filled event! We’re so grateful to have gotten to share this experience with them!

This week we are showing all the love to our Licensed Veterinary Technicians, otherwise knowns as LVT's.

We have Megan, Ariel, and Maryanna!! They are the girls behind the magic! They all have higher education and have undergone a grueling national accreditation process to earn their credentials. Many do not know, but our LVT's are much more than technicians. They have job duties equivalent to being phlebotomist, pharmacist, anesthesiologist, radiologist, dental hygienist, and certified animal lovers!! They all have worked so hard to have come this far. They have earned this week, and all the weeks of gratification!! If you are in the office this week, feel free to say hi!!

Salmon Fishing.........Salmon Poisoning?

We have recently seen a patient with salmon poisoning! This occurs when a canine ingests fresh, raw salmon that has been infected with the fluke. While this disease is rare, we want you all to be aware of this! It causes vomiting, diarrhea, and in some cases, it can be fatal if left untreated. Only feed fish that has been previously frozen or fully cooked to our furry friends. Preforming routine f***l tests can detect the intestinal fluke. This disease only affects animals. If you have any questions or concerns for this disease, give us a call and let us help you!

We are celebrating a work-iversary today!!!

Katie Sason has been a leading Veterinary Assistant here at best friends for 5 years now!!
Now that’s dedication 😉

Katie surly brightens every day with warm belly laughter, funny faces, good griefs, and overall sunshine. We truly don’t know what we would do without her here.

She is currently out on sick leave due to a non emergent procedure. But rest assured she is on the mend, and we can’t wait until she’s back in office helping us, help you!

🐾 MEET PENNY 🐾

Penny came to us on August 12th as a surrender. Penny is a 11 year old spayed female!
Penny is currently being treated for Hyperthyroidism, which is a condition where her thyroid glands produce too much hormone and her body can not regulate her functions. She is and will be on medication for the rest of her life.
Even though she has this medical condition she is projected to have plenty more years!

Penny is a nervous girl here with us, and would love to have a lap to lay in or a window to sun bath in. If you are interested in Penny give us a call at 360-679-6796 or shoot us a message on here!

We want Penny to find the best home as quickly as possible. She deserves the world!

Introducing our newest CSR, Saitiz Ramirez!

Saitiz has been with Best Friends since the end of May! She is such a great listener! Saitiz is always so quick to be very helpful when it comes to you and your pets needs.

When she isn’t at work you can find her somewhere outdoors on the water! she enjoys kayaking, fishing, hiking, you name it! In addition to her outdoor endeavors, she spends time working on her Biology degree with her giant Maine C**n and one eyed Husky!

Introducing our longest standing employee, Megan Corcel!

Megan has been with Best Friends for over 15 years now! She is now our Nursing Supervisor and one of our LVTs. It’s no secret Megan has an unrelenting passion for helping animals and pets in need, she’s our go-to for any small kitten that comes through our doors. She’s always up for a foster!
When Megan is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her two daughters 5 and 6 years old, and her husband of 17 years. In addition to nursing our furry friends back to prestige health, she also has a remarkable green thumb!
Best Friends would not be the same without her, so if you have had a pawwwsitive experience with Meg, or wanna show some love, comment below!!
