Oak Park Natural Pet and Fish of the week is the Koi fish! These things are cool and super popular pond fish that awe with their awesome colors, and can be worth up to a million dollars! Your outdoor pond will look great with these things, but beware of their large size as this has made people release them into rivers when they outgrow their ponds. However, the native species have paid a massive price because of their being released. Smaller ponds are better off with smaller goldfish like the Comet, Shubunkin, or Oriental varieties. We currently have a few different color varieties of Comets in stock.

WHAT HAPPENS TO FISH IN WINTER? Fish shut down non-essential systems once water temperature reaches 45°F. As the water becomes colder, the warm water (39°F) will sink to the bottom where your fish will hang out. Koi can stay in their pond year round if it's deep enough (at least 5 feet) so that it doesn't fully freeze. Reduced oxygen and toxic gasses can be trapped beneath unbroken ice which will negatively affect the koi's health.
